L.O To explain the meaning of key vocabulary.

S.C

I can find the correct word in the text.

I can use other sources to help me understand that word (dictionary/adult). I can read the rest of the sentence to help me understand the word.  I can use the clues in the text to explain what an unknown word means.

Read the text and highlight any vocabulary you are unsure of – ask your adult to help.

Answer section 1 of VIPERS– Vocabulary.

If the total of a column is more than 9, carry the ten to the next column.

I can remember to add the ten carried over from the previous column.

Top Tips  Maths – Find adding tricky? In school we use place value counters which you can see below being used to carry a ten into the tens column. Use any small objects at home if you want to recreate this such as coins.

Addition and Subtraction

L.O To subtract numbers with up to 4 digits using the formal written methodS.C

I can put the largest number at the top.

I can line up the second number underneath, thinking carefully about place value.

I can start subtracting from the right hand side and work along the columns.

If you can’t subtract, you must exchange from the next column.

Cross out the exchanged digit and take away 1 from it.

Carry that 1 to the column you are working with so that you can complete the subtraction.

Top Tips

Maths – Here is an example of exchanging when you can’t subtract. As yesterday, use objects to support you in doing this if you need to.

Writing – example – On Monday 11th May, Glapton Academy held a school fayre on their playing field.  There was lots of families in attendance, visiting all of the different stalls.  One area in particular gained a lot of attention.  The annual dog show had many different types of dogs being entered.  Some were big, some were small, some were fluffy and some had coats like bristles on a paint brush.  They had to perform several tricks such as an obstacle course, obedience training and walking around the fayre with their owner.  There were lots of fantastic performance but one dog stood

He jumped higher than any other dog and walked beautifully next to his owner, 9 year old, Josie Meadow.  As a result of winning first place, Buddy and his owner received a £20 gift card for the local pet shop and a big bunch of flowers.

Wider Curriculum Choice Grid

As well as completing a daily maths, English, spelling and reading task, we have put together a selection of different topic activities for you to complete at your leisure. We realise this is a busy time and so most of these do not require written work but instead are discussion and interaction based.

Let’s Get Physical!(PE)

Practice catching a ball from different heights and lengths. Here are some tips:

Stand with your feet wider than shoulder width apart and with

knees bent. The palms of your hand should be

together, with fingers spread and pointing down.

Arms and hands should be in front of the body with the head and eyes

level. Watch the ball into the softest part

of relaxed hands and wrap your fingers around the ball, drawing

your hands to the body.

I can use a basic range of fielding skills competently.

Let’s Explore!(Art)

Find a comfy place to sit in your garden or looking out of

a window. Focus on an object that interests you.

Use a variety of tools including pencils, rubbers, crayons, pastels, felt tips, charcoal, ballpoints, chalk

and other dry media to represent this object.

I can use my sketchbook to record first hand observations.

Let’s Investigate!(Science)

What happens when you heat chocolate or butter?

I want you to observe carefully. Collect words to describe how it

looks, smells, feels tastes and sounds. You could put your results into a chart or table.

Can they be changed back again?

WARNING: YOU WILL NEED THE HELP OF AN ADULT FOR THIS

EXPERIMENT.

I can explore the effect of heat on chocolate or butter.

You can put some butter on the windowsill on a sunny day and

observe what happens.

Maths Challenge!

Can you solve the problems of the day?

Let’s Get Musical!(Music)

Have a go at this music quiz:https://www.youtube.com/

watch?reload=9&v=WV63aVMnyMA

If you have instruments in your home, can you create

your own quiz? If you don’t, could you make a quiz online

and test a member of your family?

I can recognise and identify instruments being played.

Let’s Get Healthy!(DT)

Have a go at helping the adults in your home with cooking and

making meals this week. Make a list of the techniques below and

see how many you can achieve in a week.

Here is an example of what kneading is:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/techniques/kneading

I can use a range of techniques such as peeling, chopping, slicing,

grating, mixing, spreading, kneading and baking.
