LITERACY
1. Read for 15 – 20 minutes. This can be “off-line” or on-line” using RAZ KIDS or EPIC.
2. Spelling (use your colour coded word lists at the end of this document)
Write your words once or if already written sort your words using the headers.
Read your words to an adult or sibling. Choose a “writing” activity from the “Words
Their Way” spelling menu that is attached. This is available on our website as well.
Choose a “Words Their Way” spelling game to play. This is also attached and on our website.
3. Writing
Check out Seesaw for a daily writing activity. Write daily in a journal. Send emails to your classmates or myself.

Words Their Way SPELLING MENU ABC ORDER
Put your words in groups of 5. Sort each group alphabetically. Write them in ABC order in
your spelling book.
SILLY SCRIPTwrite your words in
rainbow colours, bubble letters,
handwriting, flame letters.
BACKWARDS WORDS
Write your word forwards and then backwards.
PYRAMID WORDS
Choose a word. Draw a triangle. Write the first letter, under the first and second letter and so on.
SPELLING SYLLABLES
Write your words and beside each one
write the number of
syllables.
ROUND UP RHYMES
Pick a word and try to write as many
rhyming words as possible. Continue with more words.
WORD HUNTchoose five words, write them down. Choose a book.
Everytime you see one of your words do
a tally mark.
Big Bigger
BiggestChoose a word. Write it
small. Underneath, write a little bigger. Underneath
that even bigger!
SIGN LANGUAGEUse the sign language alphabet and practice “spelling” your words.

Write your words with your “wrong”

Write a word and then write all of the smaller words that you can
create using the letters in
that word.
PICTURE IT!Choose words – write it and then draw a picture of

Plasticine Play
Get some plasticine and roll out “snakes” to spell
your words.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Put the vowels in the spotlight. Write each word. Then go back
and highlight the vowels in your words.
WORDS THEIR WAY SPELLING GAMESHangman
Use a Spelling list(s). Use 1 whiteboard. Choose a word
from your partner’s list. Partner chooses letters to
figure out the word.
Go Fish
Use a spelling list(s).Combine word cards (same colour
list only).Choose three words and play “Go Fish”.
Concentration
Mix up both sets of words (make sure your initals are on
the back). Put WTW cards face down. Flip two up, if you find a pair you keep them. If you
don't find a pair flip them back down and then your partner
goes.
Heads Up!
Put a word list(s) in front of both you and
your partner. Choose one (from
the word cards). Put the word card on
your partner’s head. Your partner asks questions to guess the word. Spell the
word and then switch.
Pictionary
Use a whiteboard. Put words face up in front of you. Choose a word
(in your head) and draw it. Partner needs
to guess and SPELL.
Tic Tac ToePut your word list in
front of you. You and a partner choose a word. Start the Tic
Tac Toe game writing your word in a
square. First one to get 3 in a row wins.
Kaboom!Put word cards in a cup or
paper bag. Write KABOOM on one of the cards.
Take turns picking words and turning over and
spelling. Misspelled words go back in the cup. If you pick a Kaboom! Card all of your words go back in the cup. Winner has the most
word cards.
Secret Word
Put a word list(s) in front of you. Choose a word and trace the letters on
your partner’s back. Can they guess the word?
CharadesChoose a spelling word. “Act it out”. Your partner tries to guess the word and SPELL it.
Beat the ClockUse a whiteboard.
Put word list face up in front of you.
Choose a word for your partner. They have to write the
word as many times as they can in 10
seconds!!
BATTLESHIPShare a computer. Take
turns typing your words in a “word” document. Change the colours, fonts and sizes.
Spelling Test
Use a whiteboard or scrap paper to give your partner a spelling test.
Mark it afterwards.
