Year: Year 4 Week beginning: 27.4.20 Work to be undertaken at home over the course of this week. Each day will consist of one English activity, one Maths activity and other tasks that should be completed during the week. Wondrous Year 4, What a wonderful start of the Summer term you have had! Thank you again for all your fabulous emails, photos and videos, which keep my spirits high. Well done for working extremely hard and keeping the positive attitude. Remember that it is essential to keep yourself busy with work and try your best. However, do not forget that you also need to look after yourselves and your families. This week we will focus on: counting in sixes, sevens and nines and rounding numbers in Maths, revising the spellings of words with ‘sc’, completing reading comprehension, planning, creating and editing a narrative in English, reflecting on the Early Christians in RE and building your knowledge on who were the Ancient Egyptians. If you finished all your work, as usual, you could go onto Purple Mash, where I will set up weekly challenge tasks. As previously, I linked all the Resources to One Drive documents. Take your time and make sure you practised your spellings.

Physical Activity Run on the spot with forward punches. Punch the opposite arm with the opposite leg running. How quickly can you go? Try sprinting for the final 10 seconds. Sit down. Put your legs out in front of you and touch your toes. Stand up. Clap your hands above your head. Repeat. How many repetitions can you do in 1 minute? Complete breathing exercise- ‘Pharaoh’- to cool down.

Please write down the answers in your green exercise book.English Read the text from ‘Reading Comprehension Tuesday’. Answer

questions in your green exercise book.Read p. 22-25 Arthur and the Golden Rope. Did you expect Arthur to set off for the great adventure to find the god of storms? Did you know that often, there is much more story going on in the illustration than the words could say on their own? Look at the illustration from the double spread on page 24-25. Explore it, tracing Arthur’s journey. What various obstacles he encounters on his way across the sea? Write down any questions that you would like to know the answer to. Re-draw some sections of the illustration (or all the illustration, if you would like) in your green exercise book. Now, collect all possible vocabulary that could describe Arthur’s sea voyage depicted on the illustration. Use the most descriptive and dramatic vocabulary. Around your illustration, write the following: noun phrases and expanded noun phrases (e.g. the vicious octopus of the North Sea), adverbials (e.g. Deep, in the freezing waters of the cruel sea), verbs and adverbs (e.g. attempted quickly, plunged dangerously, bound swiftly, clambered with vigour), -ed and -ing sentence openers (e.g. Startled, Arthur poked his small head…, Firmly holding the long branch, the courageous youngster was wrestling a long tentacle of the nefarious one-eyed octopus).

Physical Activity Make sure you have enough room for this exercise! Stand straight with your arms by your side and feet shoulder-width apart. Jump upwards, bringing your arms and legs out to make a star shape as you land. Jump upwards again to bring your feet and arms back to the starting position. How many star jumps can you do in 35 seconds? Try turbo star jumps! Now, shoot an imaginary basketball at an imaginary basketball hoop. Shuffle along a few steps and shoot another hoop! So, it’s shoot – shuffle – shoot – shuffle back – shoot and so on. Complete breathing exercise- ‘Pharaoh’- to cool down.

Wednesday Maths Chant the times tables you are recalling this week. Read and complete ‘Multiplication Quest 1’. If you want to challenge yourself, create your own multiplication quest task, similar to the one that I gave you. Complete the ‘Times Tables Test’. This week you have 50 sums again. How many questions can you get right in 6 minutes? If you are happy with your score and you hungry for more, try the ‘Times Tables Test Challenge’. Remember to use mental maths only when completing it.

English Read the text from ‘Reading Comprehension Wednesday’ and answer questions in your green exercise book.Read ‘Nouns Explanation’ and complete ‘Nouns Activity’ in your green exercise book. If you want to find out more about nouns watch this BBC Bitesize video.

Physical Activity This one is called ‘Mummy Kicks’. Put your arms out in front of you and cross your hands over each other. As you do this, begin kicking your feet out in front of you as well. Continue crossing your hands, one above the other, alternating the hand on top, as you kick your feet. This is a great one for your coordination! Next, start with your feet a bit wider than shoulder-width apart. Squat down twice. Lunge back with one leg, return to standing and then lunge back with the other leg. Repeat. Try to stay balanced throughout the exercise. Complete breathing exercise- ‘Pharaoh’- to cool down.

English Look at the vocabulary you collected on Tuesday. Today, you are going to write the story of Arthur’s voyage to the land of the Viking gods. Choose one moment from the journey and write 3 paragraphs about the whole event. 1st - the opening (Arthur spots the potential danger approaching or is surprised by it) 2nd - the build-up (Arthur attempts to deal with the problem but it escalates) 3rd - the climax (Arthur is very nearly overcome but somehow triumphs) You can first take notes (in form of bullet points or a mind-map) and jot down what you would like to include. Or maybe you could act it out. While writing your paragraphs, use your vocabulary from Tuesday. Also remember to use: third person, descriptive noun phrases and expanded noun phrases, dramatic verbs with adverbs, fronted adverbials, -ed and -ing sentence openers, apostrophe for possession (youth’s boat) and past tense.

Physical Activity Start on the floor in a press-up position. Bring each knee up to your chest one at a time. You will feel this in your arms and upper body!Stop and shake it off for a few seconds if it gets too hard! You’ve got this! Stretch your legs and arms in between. How many can you complete in 30 seconds? Repeat and this time try to beat your personal best. Complete breathing exercise ‘Pharaoh’- to cool down.

Friday Maths Complete ‘Lighthouse Investigation’.English Read the text from ‘Reading Comprehension Friday’ and answer

questions in your green exercise book.Edit your narrative from yesterday (Arthur and the Golden Rope). Did you use: third person and past tense, dramatic verbs, noun phrases and expanded noun phrases? Did you start sentences with fronted adverbials, -ed and -ing sentences? Didi you remember to separate the fronted adverbials with a comma? Did you use synonyms and apostrophe for possession?

Physical Activity Sprint on the spot as fast as you can. Pump with your arms at the same time. Can you alternate between low, fast sprinting and high-knee sprinting? To finish, do 10 toe touches. Reach up high and then bend down and touch your toes. Try to keep your arms and legs straight. Can you do sitting toe touches? Complete breathing exercise- ‘Pharaoh’- to cool down.

RE: Reflect: Read John 21:1-17 and reflect: Did the disciples have a good day fishing? What did they see when they came ashore? Why do you think Jesus trusted Peter again after he had let him down so badly? Draw three bubbles. Fill them with thoughts that might have come to Peter’s head during his conversation with Jesus. Explain what Jesus meant by asking Peter to feed his ‘lambs and sheep’? Who are ‘lambs and sheep’? What does it mean for you? Does it help you to live your life better? How?Write a prayer, where you explain what it means for you that Jesus made Peter head of the Church on Earth.

Foundation Subjects:

Reflect: What does it mean ‘ancient’? Can you check the meaning in a dictionary and write it down in your green exercise book? Look at the ‘Who Were the Ancient Egyptians’ Power Point Presentation and work through the slides. Click on the sign ‘play’ on the last slide to watch this video that will help you to find out much more about Ancient Egyptians. Can you remember any facts from the video? Did you find out anything surprising? What was it? Re-watch the video and using bullet points, take notes of the most important information from the video clip. Make a multiple-choice

Page 4:   · Web viewIf you have One Drive installed on your device, you only need to CTRL+ CLICK on the underlined link and the attachment will open. I hope you are reading your books and

questionnaire about it. Remember, a multiple-choice questionnaire contains a question and three possible answers, where only one is true. If you want to challenge yourself, you can record a video and act out as a quiz presenter, reading your questions to the audience. Maybe you could quiz your siblings or adults about Ancient Egypt? How about you email it to me and we test if I can answer all your questions correctly?Watch this video. Reflect: Do you know what a drum is made of? What do you think happens when the person hits the drum? How did you expect the rice to behave? Did you know that you have drums in your ears? Understand: Drums consist of a hollow body, with a skin stretched tight over one end. Hitting the drum causes the skin and surrounding air to vibrate. These vibrations take the form of soundwaves that travel through the air to your ears (sound needs a medium such as air, water or solid to travel though). The rice jumps about because it too is being vibrated by the drum skin. There is more information on how sounds are made in this BBC Bitesize video. After you watched the video, complete the activity ‘Fill in the gap using the correct word’
