Reading: Folktales & Fables We will read: We will be reading various

folktales and fables during whole group and small group guided reading

We will be using these texts to work on the following I CAN’s…

I CAN recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures and determine their message, lesson or moral.

I CAN ask and answer questions in a text to show my understanding of key details in the text.

Writing: Opinion I CAN write opinion pieces in which they

introduce the topic or book I am writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons, using linking words (because, and, also, for example) and provide a concluding statement.

Math: Addition and Subtraction within 1,000 with Word Problems to 100.

I CAN fluently add and subtract within 1,000 using strategies.

I CAN use addition and subtraction within 100 to solve one and two step word problems with unknown in all 3 locations adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing.

Science: Earth We began and will continue

learning about Earth Science.

2nd Grade “No Excuse” Words: (These words are expected to be spelled and read correctly.)
