Year 3 – Wednesday 1 st July 2020 Good Morning Year 3! How are you all? I hope you are all staying positive and enjoying yourselves in these strange times. It is great news that you have the opportunity to come into school at some point during the last week of term to meet your new teacher. I am very excited for you all as this is the start of your new adventure in Year 4! I’m sure it will you help feel prepared for when you return in September. Last week we did some pointillism paintings (when you paint with dots) of penguins. It was really good fun but also relaxing, everyone in the class enjoyed it. As always, stay safe and keep up the excellent home learning. Have a lovely week. From Miss Warrillow

Writing Jurassic

This week, I am going to give you the choice of what you might want to write about this picture. You could choose to write a narrative that is science fiction, an adventure or maybe a mystery story. You could also choose a non-fiction piece of writing and create a newspaper article, a recount or a diary – it is up to you!The one thing that I would like you to make sure is in your writing is the correct use of capital letters and full stops. Whichever you decide to choose, you will need to start with a plan. If it is a narrative then a story

mountain will work well, if it is non-fiction then you will need to think of the facts in chronological order. Over the past few weeks, you have written a wide range of different texts so think back to what you have enjoyed the most. Be creative and think outside of the box! This week I would like you to take your time when writing, thinking carefully about everything you write – remember, quality not quantity – be accurate making it an incredible piece of writing. Once you have planned your writing, I would like you to start thinking about the beginning. Think about how to draw the reader into your piece, making them excited to read on further. Make it exciting – if it is a narrative then you will need to think about you use of descriptive language. If it is a non-fiction piece you will need to make it exciting. When you finish the beginning of you writing, I would now like you to think about the middle. This is where the main action will happen in your piece of writing. You will need to take care here however that you do not repeat yourself. The final section of your writing is the ending. This can often be the part of the story that is rushed so, again, I would like to take your time. If you are writing a narrative you will need to finish off the story, explaining how things are going to go back to normal. If you are writing a non-fiction piece you will need to explain what is going to happen in the future. Now that you have finished your writing, I would like you to go back through and edit your work. This week I would like you to focus on your spelling.

Topic

This is continued from yesterday. Today I would like you to create a map of your Zoo. You will need to think of many different things for your zoo, not just the animals.

Your enclosures – How big will they be? Which animals will be next to each other? What will they have in their enclosures to keep them occupied and where will they sleep?

How will people travel around you park? Will you have a boat? Will you have a train? Will people be walking on paths?

Where will people eat? Will you have restaurants? Food stands? Vending machines? Are you going to have a picnic area?

Will you have a gift shop? How many toilets are you going to have?

Think carefully about this and then draw out a map of your zoo. Below are some examples to help you!
