Dairy Leaders of Tomorrow Purpose Imagine a normal day in your life. You ride the bus to school, go to classes, buy snacks at the grocery store, and maybe have a dentist appointment. How many people did you interact with to go through a normal day? What jobs did they have? Could you fulfill each of those jobs by yourself? What training is needed for those jobs? The same is true for occupations within the dairy industry. Besides working directly on a dairy farm, there are numerous occupations available within the allied industry that supports the work of dairy farmers. Like we learned in Lesson 1.1, every 9 dairy cows provides 1 job in the dairy industry. This lesson will introduce you to over 30 occupations available to individuals interested in dairy production and what education/skills are needed for each job. Dairy Leaders of Tomorrow

Purpose

Imagine a normal day in your life. You ride the bus to school, go to classes, buy snacks at the grocery store, and maybe have a dentist appointment. How many people did you interact with to go through a normal day? What jobs did they have? Could you fulfill each of those jobs by yourself? What training is needed for those jobs?

The same is true for occupations within the dairy industry. Besides working directly on a dairy farm, there are numerous occupations available within the allied industry that supports the work of dairy farmers. Like we learned in Lesson 1.1, every 9 dairy cows provides 1 job in the dairy industry.

This lesson will introduce you to over 30 occupations available to individuals interested in dairy production and what education/skills are needed for each job.

Part Three—Found a Job…Now What?

Now that you know how to interpret a job description, it’s time to practice your interviewing skills to secure your dream job.

1. Your instructor will post various job descriptions around the room that your peers have just created.

2. Take a walk around the room and find a job that meets your interest and take a copy of the job description back to your seat.

3. You will be interviewing for your ‘dream job’ in the dairy industry based on the job description you just selected. Take a few minutes and think about how you meet the requirements for the job.

4. Your instructor will assign you to a partner. You will be interviewed by this partner for your selected job and then the roles will be reversed.

5. To conduct the interview, follow the Interview Guide handout.

6. You will have 5-7 minutes to conduct each interview.

7. Be sure to complete the “Interview Evaluation” and turn into your instructor as directed.
