Home learning - FRENCHSummer term 2, Week 1

Madame Magee says, “Bonjour tout le monde! Ça va bien?”

Well done to everyone who is trying their best to practise some French at home. If you are just starting now - bravo! It’s great to hear from you and see you and your work. It can be tricky doing work at home, so just do what you can when you get a chance.

Remember to tweet me @mageeMFL so I can see what French you do!

ReceptionSome words to practise:

● Un chat, un chien, un cochon, une vache

The letters ‘ch’ in French normally make a ‘sh’ sound, like in the name Charlotte. Listen to this to hear some of the animals.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ub-V1n6zpQE

Every time you hear the animal name in French, you can make an animal face or noise. Here are the Makaton signs for you to get you started.

un chat

(say “sha”) Draw whiskers up the side of your face.

un chien (say “shee-

an”) Push two fingers down like you have paws.

une vache

(say “vash”)

un cochon

(say

“cosh-on”)

Hold up your hands like horns and then pull them up and away for the shape of the horns.

Make a circle on your nose with your fist, like a snout.

Year 1 and 2Some words to practise:

● Soleil (say: sol-ay),

● des mains (say: day man),

● le printemps (say: luh pran-tom)

Do you recognise the tune of this song? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dP8HYyT8IuE This version, asks you to clap your hands if you like the sun!

In the next few weeks we’ll be doing more weather and some clothes too!

Have a go at listening to the song every other day. Do you know more words each time you listen? Can you sing along?

Year 3Some words to practise:

● la tête (say: la tet),

● les épaules (say: layz ay-paul),

● les genoux (say: lay jhun-oo),

● les pieds (say: lay pee-ay)

● Les yeux (say:layz yuh),

● les oreilles (say: layz or-ay),

● la bouche (say: la boosh)

Soon, we will have a go at drawing a ‘calligramme’ in the style of a famous French poet. We will learn about this in the next few weeks.

For now, look at the picture and find the French for these body parts:

Remember to include any accents (the funny dashes on top of letters)! é ê

● une fraise (say: oon frez),

● une orange (say: oon oronj),

● une poire (say: oon pwar),

● une pomme (say: oon pom),

● une prune (say: oon proon)

Match the foods using the key on the worksheet. Who do you think would eat these things?

More clues for the story we are going to hear will be given next week!

Y5Some words to practise:

● blanc, bleu, gris, jaune, noir, rose, rouge, vert● malade (say: mal-ad), froid (say: fwa), grandi (say:

gron-dee), né (say: nay), peur (say: purr), coup de soleil (say: cood-sol-ay), quand (say: kon)

We will soon look at a famous poem which has these words in. Which colour do you think goes with each of these feelings? The poet linked some together in his work (see table below).

Which colours do you think go with different feelings? Send your answer to your teacher.

Write the colours in the box and colour in the paint splash. Research the meaning of the other words in French and English in the last box. Clue: the French for you is ‘tu’ as in ‘comment t’appelles-tu?’
