Curriculum Overview – Traditional Tales
We hope that this information will give you an understanding of what your child is learning at school and we encourage your involvement.
MATHEMATICS
We are learning to understand place value and number. We will also look at multiplication
and division.
COMPUTING
Digital safety; using technology within other lessons. We will also learn how to debug programmes and create our own
games.
MUSICWe are learning to explore the different instruments and the
sounds they make. We will also be learning how to play
steel pans
GEOGRAPHY
We are learning to compare the physical and human features of
countries around the world (in the UK, Europe and North & South
America). We will be looking into Fair Trade and their links.
ENGLISH
ReadingWe will be reading fiction and non-fiction
related to traditional tales. We are learning to clarify new vocabulary, infer meaning
from more complex texts and evaluate the writer’s use of language.
Writing
We will be inspired by different traditional tales and will be story writing and creating
newspaper reports.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Kidfit will be teaching us the key skills needed for team games. We will learn how to work
together in a team.
PSHE
Areas of focus – It’s our world
We will be looking at democracy, communities, energy, recycling and
pollution. We will create a class charter, in which we look at our rights and
responsibilities.
SCIENCE
Areas of focus – Light We will be learning all about different light sources and
investigating light, how it reacts in different mediums and creates
shadows.Electricity- We will learn about
circuits and create our own using
RE
Our first topic is Islam. We will be looking at traditions and beliefs and comparing it with our own beliefs.
We are hoping to have some visitors in to speak to us.
Art & Design
Areas of focus – we will be creating portratits using fine line drawing.
This will be taught by our art Specialist. Our other focus is to be
able to use a range of techniques and materials.
HOW PARENTS CAN HELP: Ensure your child arrives to school on time with everything s/he needs.
Read with your child every day. Practise weekly spellings with your child. Practise times-tables or other number facts with your child.
Homework will be sent out Monday to Thursday and it will be practising skills that the children have been taught that day. They should be able to quietly and independently complete it.

Hawthorn assembly – Friday 24th September. Please come along and watch -9am start.
School Trip – TBC as soon as possible.
