NSCF Quarterly Update Fall/Winter October 2018 – January 2019 PRESIDENT Lisa Beregi Happy Holidays! That means ski season is here and I hope you all have big plans for a lot of days on the snow! At least Mother Nature has us off to a good start! Thank you to all the councils and industry that made our annual meeting a huge success. A big thanks to Maxine and Zermatt Resort for being gracious hosts. New this year we are using the Website to post all the meeting presentations in the “Resource Centerunder the “Members Only” section. For Council Presidents, our finances and meeting minutes can be accessed on the web too. Our committee chairs are always looking for help. As you read through this update, if you are interested in any area, please contact the chair and see how you can help. The only way we can keep moving forward is to have involvement and people willing to step up, chair a committee and consider running for an office in the future. Hint - 2019 is an election year. I know we are all very busy with our own clubs, councils and all the other things besides snow sports in our lives, but I would love to see each council have one person on a committee. This doesn’t have to be you. Get someone from your council involved by being on a committee and plan to bring them to the annual meeting. During the meeting we voted on Jackson Hole’s proposal for hosting the 2019 Annual meeting September 4-8. Please see the “Save the Dateflyer attached. NSCF Quarterly Update

Fall/WinterOctober 2018 – January 2019

PRESIDENT Lisa BeregiHappy Holidays! That means ski season is here and I hope you all have big plans for a lot of days on the snow! At least Mother Nature has us off to a good start! Thank you to all the councils and industry that made our annual meeting a huge success. A big thanks to Maxine and Zermatt Resort for being gracious hosts.

New this year we are using the Website to post all the meeting presentations in the “Resource Center” under the “Members Only” section.

Please see the “Save the Date” flyer attached. Now is the time to start thinking about who will be attending for your council. More details will be sent out early spring.

As you all know, we hosted our first Virtual Silent Auction last year and it was a success. Income from it helped defer the registration costs for delegates and Industry Partners for our 2018 Annual Meeting. We are thrilled that our second VSA surpassed our expected goal, and we will be able to help the fees for the 2019 meeting too! Many thanks to Michael Calderone for all the hard work put into this project. See his report for the details.

Please take the time to read all that follows from the officers and committee chairs. You can see what is going on and how you can help. Remember to share ideas with your Regional Reps that can help the Agenda committee for the meeting, as well as any issues that you feel need addressed with the federation. There is a good chance that another council(s) may have encountered the same concerns and can help you in resolving them.

Please consider carefully who you think should be our officers for 2019-2021. If you would like to nominate someone or yourself, please email me your nomination to [email protected]. I will then confer with the nominee and get their approval before announcing their candidacy.

I have asked all four of our officers if they would like to run again this year and one has confirmed their intention to run. The other three are giving it some serious thought. Our secretary, Sheri Parshall has agreed to run for another term.

Nominations are open now.

Public Affairs Jo Simpson

Published Newsbeat issues for August, September, October and a combined November-December edition. I welcome submissions. If you see something that would be of interest to our audience, forward the item to me.

Wrote and distributed news release for 2018 Annual Meeting.

Promoted Virtual Silent Auction through Newsbeat distribution.

REGIONAL REPS

Eastern Margaret CrumThe only councils I heard from were:

Crescent Ski CouncilCrescent held their annual Fall Workshop in Gatlinburg, Tennessee Oct. 26-28,2018.  Traditionally our Trade Show is held at our Spring Convention in North Myrtle Beach, SC in April.  At the request of vendors, we decided to hold the event in the Fall.  Not only is airfare prohibitive into the area but it is also a busy time for vendors....one Trade Show after another.  The Council felt this move was a success and look forward to more vendors being able to attend next year.

New Jersey Ski CouncilSusan Dolan, President, reported that NJSC recently held their Expo which was successful.  The new guidebook has been distributed.

I know others councils are doing things but you need to let me know!

Central Ray PiwowarczykThere is nothing new to report at this time.

Western Jane Gutierrez NBS Western Region has voted to accept the invitation to join Far West Ski Association as its tenth council.FWSA preparing for Ski WeekFWSA is working hard for another successful convention hosted by the Orange Council/LA Council

RFP Cheryl MannFormed an RFP committee to work on updating the RFP. Members include Andrew Kwang, VailResorts, Sara Clemons, Sports America, Gloria Raminha, FWSA, Diane Andrews, Crescent. We began working to update the RFP.

Social Media Pat HarveyFor social media, we have a lot of new likes and are up to 674 likes on our Facebook page. Some good posts are coming in from my Committee including Becki Robinson, Stefanie S from Merck Ski Club in Pa, Juli Brace

has posted some and Joe also has posted. Lots of good stories with all the snow out west and in the Northeast. All doing well on the Social Media side.

Virtual Silent Auction Michael CalderoneThe Auction raised over $7,000 this season. Still waiting for 2 people to pay for their items.I sent an email out to Lisa about the unbid items. Will send out email to Councils to see if anyone wants them. Will send out thank you notes shortly to the donors. Will head committee again next year.

Website Joe Harvis I hope you are enjoying our weekly blog post emails. We try to post articles we believe will be of interest to our members. Suggestions are welcome.

The “Save the Date” flyer for the Annual Meeting in Jackson Hole has been posted to the Annual Meetings page as well as in the home page sidebar. Additionally, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Spring Hill Suites and Mountain Modern Motel logos are now rotating through the Partner Spotlight. All three of the partners are host partners for the 2019 Annual Meeting.

Most of the seminars and presentations from our Zermatt Resort Utah Annual Meeting have been posted to the Resource Center in the Member’s Only section of the website. We are waiting on the remainder to come in from the presenters. Please check them out and share them with your members. Additionally, a Zermatt Resort Utah photo album has been created and available to view. If you have any photos you would like to share from the meeting, please send them to me and they will be posted.

The web committee will hold its first meeting of the new term sometime in January. We invite you all to submit suggestions and/or content for the website. If you find something you feel will be of interest to the membership, please forward it to us and we will get it posted.

I hope you have been reminding your clubs to post their trips and activities to our database. It’s a great way to get more exposure for your events and trips.

Last year I sent out code to allow Federation Councils and Member Clubs to display their Clubs’ trips that have been entered into the database—ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE. It is available to all at the asking. It will be customized for each council and club.

This is a key benefit. Each Council should encourage their clubs to enter their trips into the database and request the customize code for their club or council. Contact Joe ([email protected]) with to request your customized search code.

I hope you all had a joyous holiday season. Happy New Year to all!

Enjoy the slopes and be safe.
