The work and witness of the Church in the diocese, in vale and valley, in city and suburb, in town and village, is part of the unceasing worship offered by the wider Church of Almighty God.In our diocese, the mother church, Llandaff Cathedral remembers the parishes, clergy, committees, specialist ministries and the people each day at the Eucharist. The diocese is asked to pray for the work of the
2
Cathedral in its servant role and especially on those days in which your parish is remembered at the Cathedral. The titles of the Sundays and other days are from the Church in Wales Lectionary for 2019/ 2020 Year A, Weekdays Year 1I
The daily intentions of the Anglican Cycle of Prayer are included as is, at the request of Bishop June, the Porvoo Prayer Diary. These appear at the beginning of each week.
THE PORVOO DECLARATION commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’. An important way of doing this is to pray through the year for the Porvoo churches and their Dioceses.
The Prayer Diary is a list of Porvoo Communion Dioceses or churches covering each Sunday of the year.
Those using the calendar are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the Porvoo churches. It is hoped that individuals and parishes, cathedrals and religious orders will make use of the Calendar in their own cycle of prayer week by week.
In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for churches with observer status. Observers attend all the meetings held under the Agreement.
A PRAYER FOR THE DIOCESE
Father, you gave us Jesus Christ your son to be both Lord and Saviour. By the power of your Spirit, renew your Church in this Diocese of
3
Llandaff, and help us to bring the Good News of Salvation to all your people.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
GWEDDI DROS YR ESGOBAETH
Dad, a roddaist i ni Iesu Grist dy fab yn Arglwydd ac yn Iachawdwr.Trwy rym dy Ysbryd, adnewydda dy Eglwys yn Esgobaeth Llandaf, a chynorthwya ni i ddwyn Newyddion Da Iachawdwriaeth i’th holl bobl.
Gofynnwn hyn yn enw Iesu Grist ein Harglwydd. Amen.
Seek the Lord while he may be found,call upon him while he is near;
let the wicked forsake their way,and the unrighteous their thoughts;
let them return to the Lord, that he may have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth,so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55. Vss 6 - 9)
Dominus Illuminatio. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27. v 1 Voyaging with Christ
The voyage is what counts …… not the destination. The game is more important to focus on than who wins.Easy to say but hard to practise.
4
Even worse following T S Elliot and R S Thomas: when you get to the end and find you are at the place you started, and know it for the first time!So life is just a circle, not linear? It’s true we cannot judge any movement in our relationship with
God,for our feelings are unreliable and swayed by many factors. That is why it is a journey of faith. But what we can affirm is that Christ accompanies – indeed leads us on –at every stage, every moment of our lives. It is our perception of his activity that needs to be constantly
revised. And it is only his grace, his power let loose in our lives that can do
that;but that grace is never forced upon us, yet flows into open hands and hearts and works miracles of love beyond our imagining. So the end that will be the new start is not our concern. It is the sun on the horizon and will rise when we will not be blinded by its sight. As Blake said : we are placed on earth to learn to bear the beams of God’s love. Not just to bear them, but also called to reflect them, so that others may join us on the one essential voyage to our eternal home. But we must not attempt to describe that home except in terms of
our relationship with God and all his saints. At our death, fullness of life is not taken away but leads us on to the next part of the journey.Hence our last prayer is a prayer of going forth in the presence ofthe Son and Holy Spirit and with our brothers and sisters who have gone before us.
5
As they have tried to live by faith, so now we live trusting in God’s eternal purpose, echoing the very words of Jesus: Into your hands I commend ……Full power ahead. Christ points the way, Peter and all saints help steer us into joyous waters.
Fr Colin Sutton
The Suffering of All Mankind
O God of love whose compassions fail not: we bring before thee he sufferings of all mankind; the necessities of the homeless; the sighing of prisoners; the pains of the sick and injured; the sorrows of the bereaved; the helplessness of the aged and weak. Comfort and relieve them, O Father, according to their several needs, and thy great mercy; for the sake of thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
After St. Anselm
Racial Abuse
Racism is a gaping wound in the body of Christ. We are each of us made in God’s imageand to deny the humanity of anyone individualIs to strike at the wholeness of God’s creation.
Paul Boateng
Do all the good you can

For al long as ever you can.
For Family life

Amen

Amen
For the Church
Almighty God,We pray for the family of the Church;that all Chrisians may work together in harmonyfor the spread of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the building up of your peace. Amen
Dros yr Eglwys
Dduw hollalluog,
8
gweddiwn dros deulu’r Eglwys;am i bob Chrition gydweithio mewn cyfgordi ledaenu Efebgyl Iesu Gristac i adeiladu dy dangnefedd di. Amen
We are a pilgrim people and our destiny is heaven. As we travel towards the light of Christ,
may we encourage one anotherthrough life’s rough seas and stone filled paths.
Dearest Jesus, teach me to be generous,Teach me to serve you as you deserve:
To give and not to count the cost,To fight and not to heed the wounds,
That I will do your will.To labour and not to ask for any reward
Save that of nowing.
Lord Jesus think on me, and purge away my sins; From earthborn passions set me free and make me pure within.
(Lenten Hymn)

From Fr. Colin Sutton the Diocesan Promoter of Retreats:
LLANGASTY RETREAT HOUSE is a Christian centre, and a place for individuals and groups to develop their spirituality by means of retreats, conferences and study groups.
A place of Christian Worship and Prayer, set in surroundings of peace, beauty and tranquility, with wildlife in abundance that never fails to catch the retreatants attention. Llangasty Retreat House has been used as a place of retreat by Church groups, The Mothers Union and study groups to name but a few, for over 50 years.
Llangasty Retreat House is used by Christian organizations such as, Creative Arts Retreat Movement with their Painting and Prayer retreats and the Fellowship of Contemplative Prayer. Llangasty Retreat House is also an ideal place for the individual to get away from the stresses and strains of modern day life, the views from the lounge window entice you to sit, relax and marvel at God's creation.
