Every thought pattern automatically invokes the four aspects of the psyche – intuition, thinking, the emotions and the physical sensations. THE EMPEROR

The operative opposites are shown below - under the subject of status:

After establishing a legislature under the High Priestess and the Empress, we now have a governing or ruling body: ‘someone in charge’. Status or classes manifest under these ruling elite, Kings and Queens, Pages and Knights personify, and outline expected role-playing behaviours. Within contemporary social structures; we still have governors, prime ministers, senators, and so on.

People are generally polarised within the regime as one’s disposition is determined by the tyranny or division of its subjects. The mood of the populace can be defined in the opposites of either positive or negative, jovial or melancholic…. oscillating between the extremes.

In short, autonomy concerns the extent to which a person’s acts are self-determined instead of being coerced or compelled.

The self goes on to create its own self-governing body of consciousness in gaining Independence, in the same way that the spread of sovereignty by colonialism is severed by gaining a National identity or National autonomy.

The self-governing source acknowledges “the equality of all beings,” in the admonition of the superiority – inferiority complexes.

PYCHOLOGY OF AUTONOMY and FREEWILL

The same impetus to polarise the masses is the driving force that leads to ultimate freedom – through Independence and Self-Autonomy. Like a flash of lightning from out of the blue, this discharge from the dictatorial tyrant that brings sudden change and division carries an equally resultant freedom. Reflections of this innate, inner state of absolute freedom is called Nirvana in Eastern philosophy.

FROM THE KABBALISTIC TREE

“Those for” and “those against” is the contributing dividing vote of the majority personified by the central Sun, a higher octave of the King - representing the collective unconsciousness of the individual…in Neptune. The Greek Poseidon adds the necessary skills for survival when an unforeseen calamity – from the God of Earthquakes emanates from “out of left field.”

A neutral zone appears when the self no longer maintains a stance either way, choosing to be qualified as incompetent to enter the main stream action – under any circumstance. When authorities provide others more choice, allow them to express opinions and make inputs…………

TAROT CARD # 9 THE HERMIT

INDIVIDUATION

This archetype creates the aesthetic, the domain of the cave dweller in silence and total inactivity – away from the pressures of social controls and limitation. The Hermit’s lamp typifies this extreme as the sage or monk who has taken the vows of poverty, celibacy, silence and solitude etc., and prepares to completely depart into the inner world of mysteries and illumination.

The Hermit is shedding light onto character differences and these persona or outer masks are the way in which we like others to see us. Professions in the sales area, theatre and TV acting, and advertising careers perhaps, suit extroverted people who don’t mind – “being out there”, so to speak. Introverted personalities however are more likely to be in psychology and caring professions that require reflection and on-going study.

THE STAFF OF WISDOM - INDIVIDUATION

During those moments that pressure the outer ego to withdraw for abandonment or injurious issues, then the question remains. “Will I be centred enough to front those with authority on equal grounds or withdraw into the quiet cave of silence”.

The individuation process is this same inner, spiritual driving dynamic that attempts to bring the individual and the ego projection up to full potential. As a significant realisation in the psychological journey for all travellers, the Hermit sees the benefit of guiding others, and “showing the way.”

Extroverts zip through the world in search of novel experiences, social connections, and leadership opportunities. Extroversion is a core factor of personality and is difficult to modify. But, the only people bothered by extroverts' volubility and drive are the introverted members of their circle!

The introvert individual prepares by illuminating the shadows whilst avoiding the obstacles of conceit, and possible ego inflation. The spiritual aspirant becomes his / her own master and prepares to ascend at least, to the values of the higher spiritual plane. Here the physical reality is illuminated by the inner sage; his light is the truth of individual expression.

Centeredness is that component of the Sun that illuminates the dark cave, at the same time providing brilliance of character for the extrovert who measures the need to be the centre of attention.

Equality is an important ideal for the aesthetic to bring into balance, as the zest for expansion, exuberance and jovial characters is driven by the large planet Jupiter. This sensitivity to authoritarianism is brought into sharp focus by this sage within.

Study Finds the Tropics Can Cool

A research team led by scientists at Columbia's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory has reported strong new evidence that the tropics cooled along with the rest of the Earth during the last ice age.

The finding, reported in the July 21 issue of Science, contradicts the long-held belief that the tropics remained warm and stable while ice sheets waxed and waned nearer the Earth's poles. If tropical climate has shifted in the past, the potential for future climate change in this widespread, populous region may have to be reassessed, the scientists say.

The new finding is the latest and perhaps strongest clue in a growing body of evidence on tropical climate that is leading scientists to reconsider how Earth's climate system works and how it could change in the future. If tropical climate is changeable, the greenhouse effect could raise average temperatures in the region; an increase of even a few degrees would significantly affect the tropics' vegetation and habitability. A scientific team led by Lamont-Doherty scientist Martin Stute essentially took the past temperature of an equatorial region in Brazil by tapping an aquifer and analysing waters that seeped underground tens of thousands of years ago.

TEMPERENCE

MODERTION – “GOING WITH THE FLOW

Temperance equates with prudence, i.e. by being prudent or wise. The interplay of opposites is balancing being extravagant or excessive on one hand and frugal or skimpy on the other.

So, the subject here - “putting away for a rainy day,” could relate to being skimpy. This Sephiroth combination attributes a mixture of reason within the context of a probable future need or behaviour. The appropriate inner dialogue is, “That’s not rubbish; I’ll keep it for later, just in case I have the need”.

Being prude or modest originates from within the self-image, which is a reflection (i.e. mirror) - of physical beauty. Showing off a beautiful body from the conservative ideals of youth - could be regarded as moralistic … ‘disgusting and perverted’. Looking through the eyes of an artist or poet however, is the pleasing and sensual art of seduction.

The words modest and modesty, prude and prudent both explain the dual synonyms of pride and wisdom, whilst also showing the common roots of word derivation. The primary impetus or motivation within this complex interplay of forces is common to all facets, i.e. as the need to be on guard, albeit – for the concerns of maintaining the self-image.

“What will others think?” In one extreme, Temperance becomes nonchalance or being totally unconcerned with any sense of cautionary preparation or forethought – total apathy.

Temperance herself is forever urging us on, as the water appears to flow from the higher vase to the lower one, as an allegory for the Holy Spirit. Marked by the gold and silver chakras – the adept will find a galactic resonance with unity.

Deeper insights will appear before the clairvoyant – where “Water appears to flow (somewhat mysteriously) - upward?” Here the aspirant prepares to take on added responsibility that comes with combining both the ability to read the Akashic records: both backward and forwards in Time.

OPENING THE TORAH

Balancing divine revelations within the earthly domain is explained allegorically with the archangel precariously positioned on one foot, “Only fools go, where angels fear to tread.” The emblem of the front of the garment of Temperance shows these qualities as the divine triangle, and square for the Earthly sphere.

Moderation becomes the average mean or middle path for Temperance, as extremes are brought into balance in such a way as to be able to, “Go with the flow,” and be readier to accept the inner voice of the intuition - divine inspiration. Still, clear flowing waters push into the Earth with less disturbance and erosion…. providing clarity of direction.

The spontaneity of enthusiasm and harmony is enhanced by the unimpeded brilliance of the Sun which dissipates apathy, indifference and unconcern. The Moon tempers the sometimes volcanic and perhaps over-heated nature of Temperance, by adding reason and grounding by offering rationality.

THE PATH TO BEAUTY – ‘folly to some’

The Sun and Moon have traditionally been powerful symbols of alchemical transformation, representing the marriage of the masculine and feminine halves, Eros and Psyche. These essential components of the dreaming process provide the vehicle for bringing important information into the physical realm.

Full understanding of what makes you think other than materialistic thoughts about your existence.

The Sun’s brilliant rays occupy the central theme of this card with the circle and central point glyph for the Sun shown drawn on the ground. The two children represent the two aspects of the soul being the young lovers Psyche and Cupid.

HARMONY

The weeping droplets of tears from the Sun personify the raw emotion of self-pity, as one child commiserates with the other. A parent consoles a child in times of frustration and conflict – represented by the barrier or wall defining both an obstacle and limitations.

The oracle God Apollo symbolises laying down the new foundations of ambition which unfortunately are flawed at the outset. Looking closely at the intricate bonds of mortar within the layers of brick in the wall show the thinner compressed layers. These pressures of contemporary living are forever weighing on consciousness, but with time create metamorphosis, which brings the natural process of change and transformation.

Structures like the Great Wall of China and the Berlin wall manifest as the Sun’s archetype in defining these distinct lines of division within different social structures. The process of reconciliation involves usually a compromise between two warring parties, so that a reasonable and justifiable foundation for peace comes to fruition.

Psyche represents the dynamics of the –“sleeping soul,” that Cupid awakens during the dream process, through the action and interplay of archetypes. This recall of dream imagery and symbols is an enhancement of the dialogue and accord between the different levels of the sub-conscious. The soul is a perpetual inner light ever vigilant and self-aware without the suppression or damming up of emotional urges.

HARMONY OF THE CELESTIAL SPHERES

Tarot card imagery forms opposite and complimentary relationships by numbers. The Sun’s finds this complimentary inner light in the opposite number at a lower octave, being the number 9 card - , The Hermit. The emphasis of consciousness here however is on the light of nature created obviously by candle light fire, personifying personal self-reflection.

Compassion is a unique combination of fellow feeling and empathy offered with support during times of crisis, difficulty and division. The self becomes illuminated from the inner light, an accord with the universe. Consciousness senses a harmony removing the presence of the discordant.

The ancient philosophers were well aware of this harmony which they attributed a cosmic or celestial origin. A unique fusion of light and sound resonated with the rotation of the planets themselves called, “the Harmony of the Celestial Spheres.” Aristotle and Plato were key players in establishing a philosophical model that would ultimately lift the consciousness for Humanity upward, transcending the pressures of modern day life.

CONTEMPORARY PSYCHOLOGY

Empathy is often confused with pity, sympathy, and compassion, which are each reactions to the plight of others.

Pity is a feeling of discomfort at the distress of one or more sentient beings, and often has paternalistic or condescending overtones.

You send a sympathy card when someone dies or feeling sorry for another's hurt.
