As you are aware, all students have been practicing Mind-Mapping with our History and Geography Departments. This will aid your son/daughters’ creativity, enhance their ability to organise and assimilate information and develop their memory skills to support radiant and exploratory thinking when preparing for assessment. We would ask all parents to encourage your son/daughter to continue this quality practice at home and to incorporate this technique while planning for other subjects. Dear Parent/Guardian

In Glanmire Community College, we endeavour to provide students with a quality experience of learning and teaching. A sample Mind-Map is shown below.

The purpose of the Learning to Learn programme:

Introduce students to a positive learning experience Emphasise the importance of organization and learning skills Focus students for exam preparation and Highlight how these learning concepts can be applied in school and at home

The next stage of development is to improve the students’ study area at home to ensure your son/daughter has the appropriate study setting. We would like to ask all Parents/Guardians to help in the development of a quality ‘study space’ to ensure all our students have the best opportunity to complete quality homework and plan for assessment.

An example of an excellent study area is shown above highlighting the importance of structure, the correct lighting, seating and a space that is appealing for student engagement .

We as a school are looking forward to seeing the progress of this work as we all prepare together for the Christmas exams leading into the holiday season.

Kind Regards,

Mr. Iggy Dineen (‘Learning to Learn’ Programme Coordinator)
