LESSON 1 (50 MINUTES)

We are going to learn about the different parts of a house and how to describe them.

What do you need?

your textbook: New Ace 1.1 Unit 3 (pages 89, 90, 91, 92) a phone Smartschool

You are going to record some things on a phone/ computer. Send the recording(s) to your teacher at the end of the lesson or when you have got the chance. (If the recording file is too big, you can use WeTransfer to send it. You don’t need an account to do this.)If you can’t film yourself, you can record yourself. If you can’t do this, send an email to your teacher.

Your teacher will give you the corrections of the exercises from the book after the lesson.

START WITH THE LESSON – STEPS

1) Welcome! Let’s watch a clip. Watch the clip. You only have to watch the clip between these time periods:

0:44 - 3:50 → 4:14 - 6:35 → 6:51 - 7:30https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF-Mqs2qC-M

Try to answer these questions:o What is the clip about?

_______________________________________________________

o Can you give me the name of some places you recognize?

_______________________________________________________

You can find the answers at page 20.

2) Can you name the parts of a house? Look at the house in exercise 2 and fill in the words you know.

For example: number 1 = the ground floor In exercise 1 you see pictures of special houses. In the text you can find why these

houses are so special. Highlight in yellow what type of house it is.Types of houses: a villa, a flat, a caravan, …

Search for the other parts of the house in the text. Highlight them in green. Go back to exercise 2 and fill in these other parts of the house.

Page 3: leereninspireer.thomasmore.be€¦  · Web viewSend the recording(s) to your teacher at the end of the lesson or when you have got the chance. (If the recording file is too big,

3) Where are the people in the house? Listen to a conversation. Go to the online learning materials from the book. Listen to

the audio fragment of exercise 3. Where are the people in the house? Write down the correct rooms.

Here you see pictures of the different rooms you can choose from.

4) Let’s look at this…

This is a traditional lighthouse. => What is the function of this word? Why do we use it?

There are old paintings. => ‘Old’ gives more information about which word?

We call these words adjectives. We use adjectives to describe a noun. An adjective tells us more about the noun.

5) Help Peter to sell the apartment. In this unit, we use adjectives to describe a house or a room. An adjective tells us

more about the house, the room or the furniture in it.The adjective comes in front of the noun article + adjective + noun

For example: a beautiful house a large living room

a small toilet a messy kitchen

Underline the adjectives in exercise 1.

This is a traditional lighthouse.

‘Old’ tells us more about the paintings.

There are old paintings.
