Write down a time when you know that you were having difficulty and God helped you.

Wednesday 1 st July 2020 Story S Map of Road to Damascus

Children that have been in my class (Mrs Willat), will be familiar with the ‘S Story Map’. We can make it as short as 5 sentences or add more detail. Today, I would like us to really focus on the reading and only make 5 sentences along the ‘S’. So make sure that the points have keywords and sum up the story.

Use the reading below to Highlight 5 important parts and write it on the ‘S’ map. Remember you’re making key notes and not writing sentences. There is an example

of the ‘S’ Map below.

The Conversion of SaulActs 9:1-19

9 In the meantime Saul kept up his violent threats of murder against the followers of the Lord. He went to the High Priest 2 and asked for letters of introduction to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he should find there any followers of the Way of the Lord, he would be able to arrest them, both men and women, and bring them back to Jerusalem.3 As Saul was coming near the city of Damascus, suddenly a light from the sky flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul! Why do you persecute me?”5 “Who are you, Lord?” he asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you persecute,” the voice said. 6 “But get up and go into the city, where you will be told what you must do.”7 The men who were traveling with Saul had stopped, not saying a word; they heard the voice but could not see anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground and opened his eyes, but could not see a thing. So they took him by the hand and led him into Damascus. 9 For three days he was not able to see, and during that time he did not eat or drink anything.10 There was a believer in Damascus named Ananias. He had a vision, in which the Lord said to him, “Ananias!”

“Here I am, Lord,” he answered.11 The Lord said to him, “Get ready and go to Straight Street, and at the house of Judas ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying, 12 and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come in and place his hands on him so that he might see again.”13 Ananias answered, “Lord, many people have told me about this man and about all the terrible things he has done to your people in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come to Damascus with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who worship you.”15 The Lord said to him, “Go, because I have chosen him to serve me, to make my name known to Gentiles and kings and to the people of Israel. 16 And I myself will show him all that he must suffer for my sake.”17 So Ananias went, entered the house where Saul was, and placed his hands on him. “Brother Saul,” he said, “the Lord has sent me—Jesus himself, who appeared to you on the

WATCH Film 23minutesReflectionHow did Chris feel at the start of the film? Why did the boy break into the house? When did Chris, start to think differently about the boy who broke into his home? Can people change and what do they have to do to change?Saul listened to God, what will you have to do to make a change?

Now, looking at my ‘S’ Map, I can play with the words and create a recount. I have written it out for you. But you don’t need to write it out, you will just tell someone the story using your ‘S’ Map.

1. Once there was an evil, murderous and violent man called Saul. He wanted to massacre all followers of Jesus.

2. He made his long and tiring journey towards Damascus with a few soldiers to keep him company. When suddenly there was a flash of light, which blinded Saul causing him to collapse to the stony ground. Instantly blinded by the light.

3. The Lord’s voice gently boomed down. “Saul! Saul! Why do you persecute me?” Saul asked who it was that was speaking to him and when he heard it was the Lord, he was shocked.

4. All the men stood still, listening. They then guided him to the city in Damascus. He was blind for three days.

5. God appeared to Ananias a man who was faithful to

Thursday 2 nd July 2020 These two figures are usually shown together in medieval art. They both share a feast day and are often shown with haolos and bare feet. How do you know they are saints? Who is the saint on the right? How do you know it’s him?Who gave the keys to him and what are they used for?Who is the saint on the left and how do you know? The saint on the left is holding a sword, it was used to execute him. What do you think is happening in the painting?

Shown together they symbolise the Catholic Church: Paul as Apostle to the Gentiles (non-Jews) and Peter as

Vicar of Christ and first Bishop of Rome (that is, pope).SS Peter & Paul by Carlo Crivelli

The artist Carlo Crivelli was well-known for his three dimentional effect. Look at how he has used shading to add depth and the swirls for the beard on St Peter. His use of white to create a 3-D effect, really helps to make the figures stand out. We can also, see that he has emphasised the important parts of the painting with using a brass colour for the haolos, sword, keys and the gospels.TASK: Choose one of the Saints and draw their face in detail. Friday 3 rd July 2020 You have 2 minutes to use the people in your house or teddy bears or dolls to make a church. If you are doing with friends that are visiting, please remember to social distance. You cannot use chairs, tables and you cannot stand on each other. Before you begin the task, think about what a church looks like. For example: the steeple, the doors, the pews.

Jesus had asked Peter to carry out a special mission, what was this? Yes, that’s right to build a church. Jesus chose Peter because Peter had witnessed how Jesus cared for others and how He showed us to love each other. Jesus asked Peter to build a church, but what was the church made from – wood? Brick? Or something else? Yes, that’s right!

Jesus was asking Peter to build a chuech made out of people. The physical church buildings are specail places and we are lucky to have them. But, when we come together to listen to the Word of God and pray and follow Jesus’ example, we become the church.

Reflection:Jesus gave Peter the Keys to Heaven. Who would you give your keys to and why? Find the key template on the website.Write it on the key and colour in. Send in your images to the school email: [email protected]
