The Endocrine System

Warm Up

Objective: Scientists will describe the endocrine system by researching to complete a graphic organizer.

1. What is the topic?

2. What will you be doing?

3. Why is this important?

4. How will you know if you have done well?

The Endocrine System

1. The endocrine system is composed of various glands. Each gland secretes hormones. What is a hormone?

The following is a graphic organizer of some of the glands and hormones. Write the effect that the hormone has on the body. Bonus: research the other hormones and write the information on a separate sheet of paper and attach.

The Endocrine System and Feedback Loops

The endocrine system functions to maintain homeostasis by secreting hormones. Feedback loops are a large part of the process. Feedback is a situation when the response of a loop impacts or influences the input or stimulus. See the examples of the two feedback loops below. Research a feedback loop of the endocrine system and draw it on the table. Below, copy what your group did on the table and explain it in your own words.

What is the difference between a positive feedback loop and a negative feedback loop?
