Theme - Animals Read, listen to or watch Dear Zoo and see if you can complete the following tasks. You can use the pictures attached to sequence and retell the story. (NB: All written tasks can be supported by an adult in the form of scribing or supporting in overwriting/underwriting if more appropriate) Task 1 - Literacy Investigate the different animals that you might find in the zoo using books or the internet. If you can, print off some pictures or put them into a PowerPoint. Choose one animal and see if you can write a letter to the zoo asking them if you could have that animal. Don’t forget to start your letter with ‘Dear Zoo’. Challenge - Could you write a sequel to the book, which involves someone asking for something but each time they receive a gift, there is something 'wrong' with it Task 2 – Literacy/Understanding the World Choose one of the animals that you have researched and see if you can use the internet to print off some pictures. Talk about what the animal looks like, what it might eat and maybe talk about the size of your animal. Is it big or small? Are there animals that are bigger/smaller than your chosen animal? Where do they live? Is it in a hot or cold place? See if you can create a simple fact file about your chosen animal. There is a template attached or you can create your own. Challenge 1 – include the following information: Where the animal lives. What the animal likes to eat and if it is an omnivore, carnivore or herbivore. The features that the animal has to help it survive. Challenge 2 – Can you find out what ‘endangered’ means? See if you can write a list of endangered animals. Can you write a few sentences to say why they are endangered?

Theme - Animals

Read, listen to or watch Dear Zoo and see if you can complete the following tasks. You can use the pictures attached to sequence and retell the story. (NB: All written tasks can be supported by an adult in the form of scribing or supporting in overwriting/underwriting if more appropriate)

Task 1 - Literacy Investigate the different animals that you might find in the zoo using books or the internet. If you can, print off some pictures or put them into a PowerPoint. Choose one animal and see if you can write a letter to the zoo asking them if you could have that animal. Don’t forget to start your letter with ‘Dear Zoo’.

Challenge - Could you write a sequel to the book, which involves someone asking for something but each time they receive a gift, there is something 'wrong' with it

Task 2 – Literacy/Understanding the World

Choose one of the animals that you have researched and see if you can use the internet to print off some pictures.

Task 3 – Creative/Literacy

Make a model or painting of one of your favourite animals. You could use any materials you like (e.g. sequins for scales on a fish, a toilet roll for a neck of a giraffe etc.)

Challenge – Make up a story about your animal that you can tell to your family or record and send to the school for your teacher.

Task 4 - Creative

See if you can make your own book of Dear Zoo. Make your own pop-up book with animals hidden under the flaps. There are pictures for you to cut out and use attached if you need them.

Task 5 - Maths

Ask friends and family what their favourite pet animal is. Record their answers in any way you wish (e.g. a tally chart, pictogram or bar chart). You could even have a picture of each animal and just place a counter or an object on each one each time somebody tells you that pet is their favourite!

Challenge – There is some squared paper attached if you would like to create your own graph. Can you add together all of the results? Can you double that number? Can you multiply the number by 5 and then 10?

Task 6 - Music

Follow this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqz4z9aQRJY and see if you can join in with animal freeze! You need to pretend to be different animals and then freeze like a statue when the man says ‘FREEZE’!!

See if you can follow the lyrics and learn the song ‘We’re Going to the Zoo’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FSqxFQlSGk
