You should have a plan of what you are going to write your explanation text about. Today you will be writing the first paragraph of the text on Google Classroom. There will be a new assignment where you will need to type up each paragraph as instructed each day. Only do the amount that has been asked of you as each day there will be a different focus to your writing.

Do not submit your work until Friday.

Today’s paragraph should include similes. A simile is a way of describing something by comparing it to something else using ‘like’ or ‘as’. Here is the class innovation from last year as an example (the parts in bold are the changes from the model text) and some more examples on the following page:

How does a Washing Machine Work?

Washing Machines tend to be found inside many homes around Great Britain. They are used to make your clothes smell like freshly cut lavender that has been pressed and feel as smooth as the elegant feathers of a paradise bird.

Up level your work as much as possible by adding a different simile for each sense (depending which ones work): see, hear, touch, taste, and smell.
