This Union NotesWrite the hard facts and background details about what you are proposing.
1. That the Constitution and by-Laws were re-written in 2018 to ensure good governance of the Union.
2. That the Union elections had previously been held before March each year.
3. That a large proportion of students are on placement during elections.
This Union BelievesWrite what you believe should be happening.
1. That our Societies previously had enough time after March to conduct their elections.
2. That more students should be encouraged to vote in the Union elections as a democratic organisation.
3. That the elections should be held at a time and date that is suitable for as many students to engage as possible, even if this is after March.
This Union ResolvesWrite what you believe should be happening.
1. To remove the word “March” and replace with “May “on page 40, under General election regulations, point 2 so it now reads:
“Annual elections shall take place before the end of May for
Executive Committee positions.”
2. To remove, “after the main Union elections” on page 45 under “Society Elections”, point 1 so it now reads:
“Society elections shall take place at their respective Annual General Meeting (AGM). Each Society shall be given a dedicated slot to hold their AGM which shall be before the end of the Academic Year and at a time determined by the Societies Officer.”
