Refreshed in Christ from Head to Toe! Teaching Notes: Week 1

“Each of Us Has a Story ~ What’s yours?”

Head: Awareness of God

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Heart: Response to God

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” John 3:17

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:10

His Story: Walking Together ~

“No one can serve two masters.” Matthew 6:24

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Mathew 7:24

“The man who says, “I know Him,” but does not do what He commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys His Word, God’s love is truly made complete in Him. This is how we know we are in Him; whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” 1 John 2:4-6

Each of us has a story ~ What’s Yours? "Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is Your Son. I believe that He died for my sin and that you raised Him to life. I want to trust Him as my Savior

and follow Him as Lord, from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen."

What will you do with God’s Word?

Week 1: Each of Us Has a Story ~ What’s Yours? Personal Reflections and Points to Ponder

Day 1: Consider your spiritual journey. What experiences did you have growing up that began to point you towards God? (People/Places/Circumstances, Bible passage)

Who were people God used to point you to Him? What stands out to you about each of their lives?

Read Galatians 5: 22: As we invite Christ into our hearts and give our lives to Him, He changes us and cultivates within us the ‘fruit,’ or characteristics, of His Holy Spirit. What are the Fruits of the Spirit?

Were any of these spiritual qualities apparent in the lives of those God worked through to impact your life? If so, which ones? (ie: my Aunt Gladys (w/the large Jesus picture) was undeniably full of joy!)

In closing, read Psalm 107: 1-22. What stands out in this portion of Scripture? Close your time in prayer; thank God for working through others to point you to Him, and for His loving kindness to work in and through you to point others to Him as well!

Day 2: Read Luke 9: 57-61 What was the invitation Jesus extended to those He encountered? What were the responses they gave?

Can you relate? Have you ever found yourself putting your relationship with God on pause while you tended to others things? If so, what are some of the “But firsts” you identify in your life that distract you from focusing on the Lord (Even good things can be distractions)?End your time today in prayer; pause and consider what God may be asking you to adjust or eliminate in your life in order to more fully follow Him.

Day 3: Read Lamentations 3:23 As you continue your journey with the Lord, what significance does this verse hold?

Look in your Bible’s concordance, or on a relevant Bible app, and note below a definition for mercy and for faithfulness; two aspects of God extended to us every single day:Mercy:

Faithfulness:

Can you see His love for you woven into the Truths of this passage?

Closing your time in prayer; don’t overlook thanking God for His tender mercy and unwavering faithfulness to you. He loves you so much (Jeremiah 31:3).

Day 4: Read John 8:31-32.Write out the “If” and “Then” realities noted in this passage.

Now read John 10:27-31. What are avenues through which God speaks to us?

Conclude your time in prayer, considering again the “If” and “Then.” Pause quietly and invite God to speak into your life through His Holy Spirit regarding adjustments, truths revealed, and promises stated in His Word.

Day 5: Read Psalm 32:8, Matthew 7:24-27, and James 1:5-6, 22-25. Each day we have choices. What do these verses have to say about our relationship with the Lord?

Close your time today by reading Philippians 1:6. This Truth contains a precious promise; what is it?

What will you do with God’s Word?
