Jesus Heals Blind BartimaeusLuke 18:35-43

35 As Jesus and his disciples drew near to Jericho, they were being followed by a large crowd. 36 On the roadside side there was a blind beggar by the name of Bartimaeus who was begging. 37 The blind man inquired as to the purpose of the crowd and they told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” 38 And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 39 And those who were in front told the blind man to stop and to be

silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 40 And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. They called out to the blind man and said, “Don’t be afraid! Come on! He is calling for you.” The man threw off his coat as he jumped up and ran to Jesus.

And when he came near, he asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” 41He said, “Lord, I want to see.” 42 And Jesus said to him, “Your eyes are healed; your faith has made you well.” 43 And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And when all the other people saw this began to praise to God.

What hinders people from approaching Jesus?

Why do you think the man “threw off his cloak”?

Bonus Question: After being healed, Bartimaeus continued to follow Jesus. Research where he followed him to?

Image – What aspects of the image reflects your understanding of the story?

Would Bartimaeus’ healing be physical, spiritual or both?

Video Resources: All videos downloaded in Resource Folder or YouTube links are hyperlinked below.

Video Title + Channel How you can use this video?

Skit Guys - Baggage This video illustrates how we as humans can sometimes carry baggage and give baggage to others (effects of sin and the need for healing)

Skit Guys - God’s Chisel This video can be used in a liturgy and offers points for journaling and self-reflection. It is a conversation between God and man and illustrates how we are called to be God’s masterpiece.

Life Teen - I Confess This video is very useful in providing a visual representation of the Sacrament of Confession (1.4).

Bluefish TV - The Files Both of these videos illustrate the role of Jesus in the process of forgiveness. The Files is a skit that looks at how Jesus took on the consequences of our sins, and Falling Plates highlights this in the need to become human and restore our relationship with God.CRU - Falling Plates

Busted Halo - Sacrament of Reconciliation

This video is very useful in providing a theological overview of the Sacrament of Confession (1.4).

Lifehouse’s Everything Skit An excellent skit that illustrates the effect of sin - ultimately separating us from God. This can be used with Students’ who will then have to create their own skit/role play that demonstrates sin and healing.
