McClintock AcSmhour is a Malawian man who was born on 25 January 1989 in Dedza Tradition Authority Kachere. He was born in the family of six children in the village called Chasweka and he is the last born in their family. AcSmhour had grown up while with her mother Mama Kolleta Fossah who he calls, a caring mother because she has done great things to him he never expected in his life.

He studied his primary school at Ngwenya L.E.A School in area 24 and his secondary school at Phwezi Boys Secondary School in Rumphi in the year 2011. While at school, he had a desire of establishing his own secondary school as part of accessing the

greatness of the knowledge he acquired and gained from Phwezi Secondary School as he was inspired by some young teachers who appeared to have great achievements in their lives. So he decided to open his secondary school in area 36 which was called FOMA FOUNDATION OF EDUCATION. The

school runs for five months but because of financial and weak staff members, he decided to close it. Since then, AcSmhour

has been thinking of another investment and finally he came to the idea of establishing this organization.

Malawi is a country known of peace and stability compared to other countries in Africa and in addition, it is a country which is blessed with different resources like Don’t think too much, think about simple things but plan bigger for them (FDPOM)

Although resources in our country are limited for effective development, it is time Malawians realized their potential on these limited resources. Effective and properly used resources benefit the wise and the wise benefit from the resources but careless usage of resources that are limited to us destroys even not only the focused resources but other resources that are associated with the targeted one.

FDPOM has come to encourage the youth, women, and elders to have strong mind on entrepreneurship skills and encouraging students at all levels (Primary, Secondary and tertiary levels) to obtain enough knowledge and skills for their own investment rather than waiting for employment by companies, organizations, institutions etc. it is essential to everyone to be competent on the few resources that we have in our country but with the use and adherence of the constitution of this country regarding the resources that are to be used. Poverty is not a fixed challenge for a person who was created by God because God did not created people poor, if you know that God created you and He truly loves you so that you always make Him happy because of your good things you do to him, you will discover that you were born not to suffer but to overcome your vision and goals. If you are a born again, then you are born again not to suffer again but to reign again. Everyone who received Jesus Christ as his/her life savior was given the dominion of being a child of God and therefore children of God do not deserve suffering but deserve prosperity. FDPOM is yet to civic educating people that everything that troubles a person whether a born again or not is not from God but the Devil. So open your eyes and see what God granted you as a gift on earth before the devil realize it on your behalf because God created you with a purpose and great gifts as His child.

If you will open up your eyes and see the gift that God blessed you with, you will be able to know the facts about your personal development, sources of developmental wisdom, differentiating employment and investment for your own benefits, investing your assets into the business, using proper knowledge for your business, managing your investment, knows your responsibility toward your investment and many others that are not on the list. This hand book describes all

these in details and this will require you to pay attention if you are to understand and take some knowledge out of this hand book.

DEFINITION OF HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Human development focuses on improving the lives people lead rather than assuming that economic growth will lead, automatically, to greater wellbeing for all. Income growth is seen as a means to development, rather than the end in itself (UNDP 2003). Human development is about giving people more freedom to live lives that they value. According to UNDP in effects, this means developing people’s abilities and giving them a chance to use them.

For you to know the fact about human development you must seek knowledge first to supportable sources. According to Oxford Dictionary; knowledge is defined as facts, information and skill acquired through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. The possible sources of business knowledge can be obtained from recognized books or people who have knowledge and experience in human business development for your business understanding and you should refer to different books or seek knowledge from different people to get wide information for your understanding about personal development. See figure 1.1 for reference.

It increases entrepreneurship skills among groups of people. It gives ownership of resources to individuals. It reduces unemployment levels in the country.

communities etc. It helps to build up interrelationship among people and many others.

FACTORS THAT CONTRIBUTE TO HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

There are so many factors that help in human development and this chapter tries to expand these factors in details and these are;

Time

Time is the most important factor that takes people towards the successful human development. Make sure you share your time properly for each activity that will be carried out during your business work. Know that mismanagement of time will affect your business capacity to grow because everything you do if you are to benefit from it then you has to arrange your time properly before time will arrange you.

Peace

Peace is defined as tranquility, stillness, freedom from contention, violence that ends war. Peace is the most important factor as far as human development is concerned. In absence of peace, people lives with fear and therefore cannot manage any investment in an area. But the presence of peace in an area brings confidence to people living in the area so that investment becomes easy to be established.

Resource availability

Human development requires resources particularly nature resources and of course finance are both important. There are some people who have resources but they don’t invest their assets (resources) into the business and they allow poverty into their house. People have resources buy they do not know how to use or invest their resources into the business to obtain their

incomes. Use the resources that you think cannot help you and try to do something with it, if you still have problems, then you can visit your friends who are expert in business and ask them on how to make a business with it.

Communication

Communication can be defined as the act of imparting, sharing and succeeding in conveying information to pass on the next person. Human development is not a one man task; you are required to gather information on how to manage your personal investments and this will demand you to have enough skills for communication. This will also help you in communicating with customers and this is the most important factor that must be required when you want to establish your person business. This is the reason that makes us going to school, we don’t go to school so that we will be employed; l say NO to that preconception and l confirm that it is WRONG to have that idea. So you need communication skills for you to transact with customers.

Cycling propaganda

Propaganda can be defined as the organized spreads of ideas, doctrines, etc to promote a cause. When making ideas concerning investment, it is necessary for you to gather the much need information for your business. Everyone has ideas on a certain thing; make sure you first know who you are and at which part in development and try to pump up your idea to a certain level, you will see success coming towards you. Cycle your propaganda until you confirm it is a genuine idea and seek knowledge to your partner because development is not a one man task.

Strengthening business links

It is as well advisable to first make links with who you think can help you accessing

your business information and buy your commodities. Make strong business link

with your friends who you think can help you at a certain part of business.

Wisdom can be defined as the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment (thefreedictionary). Wisdom is the most important thing to have in everything that people do.

We are all children of God who created heaven and the earth and everything living on earth. He is the one who created people with the great purpose and His purpose was not to make you feel the pain that you feel most of the time but with the purpose of respecting His name and make Himself present on earth due to your presence because you were created on His image. Everyone who is a born again was given the dominion of being the child of God. As his child, you can ask Him whatever you want and it shall be given.

THE SOURCE OF WISDOM

According to the bible, the book of John Chapter 15 vs. 5 the bible Jesus says: l am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abides in me, and l in him, the same Bridget forthth fruits: for without me ye can do nothing. This really confirms to us that we cannot do anything in his absence because He is the provider of everything that we need in our life. This means God is the only source of everything that human beings deserve. Wisdom is an important aspect in human development because it guides you to properly use knowledge whether of understanding or writing in managing your investment.

WHY DEVELOPMENT REQUIRES WISDOM

Development as the sustainable elevation of the entire society, it requires wisdom that will provide knowledge of understanding and enough skills on how you can manage your business. For you to engulf enough information concerning your business, you need wisdom. For a person to know that a certain material or money can be used to make something beneficial to his/her future, it demands critical thinking and of course wise thinking capability and thus wisdom. The use of knowledge to overcome something is what we call wisdom. Therefore for you to come up with the knowledge of owning your own business, you need to first ask God to give you enough wisdom on how you can start and manage your business.Don’t think too much, think about simple things but plan bigger for them (FDPOM)

People straggle with life and in fact others do have some ideas of having their own businesses and ignore employment because they can see no benefit on their work but they are hopeless of where they can get their business opening capital. This happens because you have never thought of putting your idea into action to testify whether your idea is beneficial and successful to your dreams. People do dream about big businesses but the problem is that they do not put it in practice. You can agree with me that people who are surviving on earth are only those who owns their own businesses and not depending on employment. people do not suffer economically because when things at their work are not okay, their business support them. See figure 1.2 for reference

Plain land

There are some plain areas that are staying dormant and can be used for human development

NB: it is time Malawians realizes the importance of plain areas that are not used. People spend a lot of their money for bear drinking, womanizing, smoking, unplanned traveling that actually benefit them nothing. It is time you realize the responsibility of your life by choosing the correct way of living. You can use the money you spent on bear, smoking, womanizing and many others that are in moral kinds of activities to rent or buy an area which is not used and have your harvest there which will gives you the starting capital after selling them. This will push you towards human development which will help you in many things of your life including possessing your own plots and say bye to life of renting people’s houses.

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN INVESTIMENT AND EMPLOYMENT

Apples MarketThere are a lot of things that people see others doing but they do not realize the reasons why there friends are doing it. They don’t even think of their own businesses and what they do is to devalue their friends saying, “Am educated and l cannot do this because my friends will rough at me”. That is a foolish idea because your friends are making money and they don’t have time to rough at a person’s ways of sourcing finance.

For example, see the picture in the diagram above; do you think these people selling apples are the same compared to how they were when they were not doing the business? And you will also discover that some people, who started with the very same business of selling apples, now they own big businesses compared to how they started their businesses. What they did was to start the business with an aim of sourcing enough capital for the business that they desired in their life. Do you think these people can think of being employed? Honestly no! Why because they own their own businesses and they can now even employ

others who wait to be employed and not want to invest their assets into the business.

The assets that we talk about are not only money. You have skills so that you can perform and people enjoy it, (show up your talents and gift) others will fund you to go further with your gift. Use the available resources to perform wonders. You have knowledge and you can make a brilliant business plan, show up those to people who can help you, be it your parents, aunt uncle, the MP, apply for funding to the office of the Minister etc. people have resources but they do not realize this because they think of employment all the time when they will finish their education yet other are struggling to find jobs. Please stay away from the idea of waiting for employment and learn to invest whatever you have into a business or even a small one. Figure 1.4 and 1.5 shows another kind of business that people are doing

You will discover that all these businesses that people are doing in town are not businesses they desired in the past but because the chance is only for that business, they are doing it just to obtain enough funds for their real businesses.

Please let’s think and speak good and visible things to our future because the choice that we make today will affect us in future and not only us but even our children. Make a good plan for your investment and leave the idea of searching for employment. If that lack may be found of employment then do it but with much care, meaning be thinking much about your own investments and not permanent working. Use the little resource that you have and establish your own business be it a company, organization, institution and many other businesses and make sure it will be making a difference from employment. See figure 1.6 for

DEFINITION OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment is a process or a condition where by a person is hired by another person for wages. A person was created by God to become the ruler of everything on earth, why allowing others ruling you because of money? Don’t say you were born from a poor family and that is why you are poor, NO. The reason is that you can’t see your possibilities towards human development. Look at the definition of employment and try to weigh it; you will see the following things happening.

MEANING OF INVESTMENT

Investment is the activity in which money, efforts, time and assets are used for productivity. The key word here is productivity. When you invest, you must expect profits from your business.

NOTE: when you invest, do not expect quick profits, it takes time for you to start earning profit from the business so be patient when your business is not giving you profits.

The major difference is that investments help people to have self management skills and ownership of resources whereas employment demands you spending your good time for someone’s profits and you do not benefit anything apart from the salary they give you. You can agree with me that there are some people who started working a long time ago but they are still living rented houses because they don’t have time for their personal development, they are busy working for others. You will also notice that some people who have their own businesses have plots because their businesses can allow them in terms of time and money manage other things building plots freely and you can agree with me that people, but when you builds a plot while working for someone, the boss start suspecting you of stilling money for your development and those who built their own houses while working do not tell or take their bosses to their homes due to fear. And you will also discover that some big people who have qualifications are renting houses built by businessmen. Business owners are their landlords, it’s a shame but all this happens because people do not think about it and see it as a problem.

There are some people who are venders selling shoes in the town and of course in the fields, these people benefits a lot and you will as well discover that some big bosses are renting houses owned by these venders. Why can’t you think of establishing your own business and employ other people to be working for you if you enjoy employment, so that you will be working and on the other hand managing your business. Thanks to those who are doing this but l know they are just a few people doing this, many are just working and they do not think of business others are busy looking for employment and they are still struggling for it.

You have to understand the concept of this hand book. l am not trying to mean employment is bad, but am trying to teach you that you should have your own thing to control because employment is not reliable. You may lose your job while having nothing to support your family. If you are working, take a little amount of money that can manage and open a small business for your personal and family survival. This will help you in many things like emergency issues at a mid month of you working days.

This chapter opens with the major important issues that will tell you the steps on how you can invest assets into the business. Following proper method and steps in business establishment is a key for your business growth

There are some people who always think that they cannot do anything on their own, know that you are with God who have everything in His kingdom so from today say, “ l can do whatever because my God who l save, is a living God and has everything for me”.

STEPS TO FOLLOW WHEN MAKING AN INVESTMENT

The following are some of the steps that one can follow when making an investment for personal development.

a. Identify the real source of your capital

The first thing that must be heavily considered is the source of capital for your investment and this will help you to have enough courage to push your business idea forward and you even know other hidden sources of your funds.

b. Circulate and make a business choice

In this step you try to find out which business part are you gifted by God. Everyone has a business knowledge as granted by God and so don’t cheat yourself that you cannot manage business calling yourself a person who doesn’t have enough skills for it. For your own information, you have to know that God gives His people what they want. If you ask a small thing surely He will do as you wish and if you ask Him great things, He will also do the same. Make a business plan which will not gives you troubles when planning for expenditures. Think about simple things that people do not even recognize its indispensability and plan bigger for them and you will make it.

c. Chronologically methodize your business strategies for each month/year

This is the step where an entrepreneur schedules his/her business activities to be carried out in the process of his/her business transactions. The following can be some of the guiding points when scheduling the business transactions.

i. Make a research on how your friends manage their businessesii. Find out how many people are doing similar business in your locality and

identify weak areas that people are not satisfied with in your locality.iii. Plan your business activity in accordance to other people’s mistakesiv. Immediately arrange all the expenses that you are supposed to pay once

your business start.v. Schedule time, when you will be starting and breaking off your business

per day.vi. Prepare capital for each commodity expected to be purchased. etc

Vii. Use profits in an orderly manner.

This will help you to know the benefits of your business. This is so because the profit can be used to solve different family problems and also raising the capital for your business

d. Keep records for your business data

This will help you to know if the business is making profits particularly when you want to conduct stock. This will as well help you to know what steps you are supposed to follow for progression of your business after discovering the running results of your business.

These are just some of the steps, you can add more on this.

NOTE: you are not supposed to think big issues if you know you are not financially stable. Think about a simple thing but make big plans for it, and things will be simple for you to handle

According to Chris Joseph demand media, if you are just beginning, an investment program may be something that hasn’t been on your radar. You may be more concerned with how to pay for items like food and gasoline. However, if you can scrape together even a small amount of money for investment purposes, you will be on your way creating a much rosier financial picture in the years to come. The following are some of the importance of investment as stated by Joseph.

1. Beating inflation2. Saving for retirement3. Putting your money to work4. Financial resources

Try and put whatever assets that you have into the business and follow all the required procedures and you will see and know yourself. We are supposed to get education so that we will have enough skills for our own management. There are some people who used to say “if all of us have businesses and have money, then who will be working for others” that is a foolish idea as far as your life is concerned. God created people not to be servants of others but His servant. You are supposed to have your own things to control. Because you were given the dominion of being His children and therefore as our father, we can ask Him whatever we want and it shall be given but only if you truly believe in Him as a born again Christian for you can do nothing in His absence.

Read books for knowledge on how you can manage your investment if you can read and understand the concepts of the book. If you cannot read and understand something, ask people who are experts in businesses and seek knowledge on how you can manage your business. Do not rely on the government to create jobs for you, create your own job and reduce unemployment levels that Malawi is facing as a challenge. You can do it and you have what it takes for somebody to have his/her own business. See figure 1.5 illustrates sources of business information and read as many books as you can for more information.

If people lead and understand the concept of a topic but do nothing on it, know that he/she is just wasting his time for prosperity. Books are there to teach, give knowledge and direct us on the right things that can benefit us economically and socially but people do not know this until they are pulled down by others.

Have you ever discovered that there are some things that when you do your friends became jealous of it? Why do you think this happen to you? Have you ever realized what the devil do when God wants to bless you? He uses your close friend to discourage you or to make you disappointed so that you stop doing it because the devil cover your face with the black cotton so that you cannot see the future of what you wanted to start because devil know that if you begin it, God will guide you and you will manage it without difficulties. You know devil plays with us and bring us problems like diseases, poverty, etc because we smile at him when he is around us. We do recognize his presence but, do not put an action to defeat and frustrate the devil rather we celebrate his present and invite him into your house. Then how do you think poverty will leave you where by the one who brings it is right in your house. Think about it and try to do something for your survival.

In business this never happen, what matters most the contribution of capital and not only ideas unless if the own says that. In most cases people do not prosper because they do not involve other in the contribution of their businesses or investment and this is a big problem that people faces.

By following all the steps that have been listed down above, a person can be able to make his business succeed because business without knowledge is a business without future. The business which begins by just trying and not seriously established, they are the one that easily collapse because there will be no proper management of the transactions that will be conducted. These people may even engage in the transactions that are not required for their business investment. So it is necessary to follow proper procedures with the help of other people who know business well than yourself.

The following are some of the key responsibilities that a person who want to own or owning the business should consider for proper management of the business.

1. Respecting employees

This will help to keep the good image of your company/business since your employees will be comfortable and they will be working willingly because you consider and respect their personality. Workers may even talk good things about your business

2. Arrange time for the business’s working period

Time management is the most important factor; this is so because time is money. You lose time; you disturb some activities to be done at a certain period of time.

3. Make payment on time.

There are some people who pay their employees very late reaching to the point that workers arranger strike demanding their salaries. This does not give a good image of your business. It is your responsibility to take note and control all these.

4. Research important issues relating to your business

Making a research will help you to discover some of the things that you were not aware of but essential for the survival of your business

5. Formulate proper methods strategized for your business management

This will help in the proper management of the business because all what must be followed were already arranged and people just follow them.

6. Make communication easy

Another important thing is communication. This will help your business partners to understand you and even help you in the growth of the business. You should also take note that starting a business will not only require one man’s idea but a combination of many. For people to help you deciding on the proper method of managing a business, you are supposed to have communication skills for easy understanding with them

McClintock AcSmhour is a Malawian man who was born on 25 January 1989 in Dedza Tradition Authority Kachere. He was born in the family of six children in the village called Chasweka and he is the last born in their family. AcSmhour had grown up while with her mother Mama Kolleta Fossah who he calls, a caring mother because she has done great things to him he never expected in his life.
