HOLY WEEK at TRINITY

Holy Week is the most solemn week of the Christian year and is the week leading up to Easter. It is the week during which Christians remember the last week of Jesus's life. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday.

March 24 – Easter Egg Hunt at ChurchBring your own basket.

Food – Drinks – Egg Hunt - Games Ages 2 -10 - 11:00 a.m.

March 24 – Decorating of Cross in front of Church – 11:00 a.m..

. March 25 – Palm Sunday Service – 11:00 a.m.

The Sunday before Easter is called Palm Sunday because the crowds waved palm branches as they followed Jesus' procession into Jerusalem. It was the time of the Jewish feast of Passover. Many Jews travelled to Jerusalem to celebrate this feast together.

March 29 – Maundy Thursday with Holy Communion – 7:00 p.m.

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter. Christians remember it as the day of the  Last Supper when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and estab-lished the ceremony known as the Eucharist. The night of Maundy Thursday is the night on which Jesus was betrayed by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane.

April 1 – Easter Sunrise Service – 7:00 a.m.Breakfast in Fellowship Hall – 7:40 a.m.

Maundy Thursday Service - March 29 Maundy Thursday, also known as Holy Thursday, falls each year on the Thursday before Easter Sunday. The day commemorates the famous Last Supper – most famously depicted by Leonardo da Vinci – when Jesus had his final meal with the 12 disciples before his crucifixion. The day falls on the fifth day of Holy Week, one day before Good Friday – the day Jesus Christ was crucified. “Maundy" is derived from the Latin word mandatum, the first word in the famous phrase "A new commandment I give you: Love one another" (John 13:34). In Latin, this phrase reads "Mandatum novum do vobis ut diligatis invicem sicut dilexi vos." Jesus had said this to explain why he served the disciples after washing their feet. That’s why services on Maundy Thursday will often include feet washing or other acts of physical care to remember this scene in the Bible. Churches that celebrate the day often also hold a Lord's Supper or Holy Communion as well. Please join us for this very meaningful service on Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m.

Mission Project for Trinity Sponsored by UMW

The United Methodist Women are sponsoring an ongoing mission project for our church. During the month of March, we will be collecting items for the Operation Christmas Child Samaritan Purse Shoeboxes. There will be a container in

the hallway outside of the nursery where you can put your items. We will be collecting different items throughout the year. March is personal care items. Remember, we will be filling boxes for male and female children, ages 5-9 and 10-14. Items needed include:

Combs and hairbrushes Stick Deodorant Nail clippers and files Toothbrushes Washcloths and bar soap

Adhesive bandages including colorful ones for children Reusable plastic containers: cup, water bottle, plate, bowl, blunt-edged utensils (these can be used by

them for not only eating but other purposes such as digging, etc. Non-liquid lip balm

****************************************************************************************Hearty Soup Sunday/American Heart Month a Success

Trinity and the United Methodist Women recognized February as American Heart Month by holding a heart healthy soup luncheon after church on Feb. 18. Soups were provided by Joan Morris, Betsy Black, Phyllis Sanders, Harriet Stevenson, Frieda Kesler and June Pitts. Others in the UMW brought sandwiches, cake, and tea. Thanks to all who helped with and participated in this effort.

Information on heart disease and prevention as well as “goody bags” were handed out. Special thanks to Newberry County Hospital, (Frieda Kesler), Self Memorial Hospital (Sheryl Burgess), American Heart Association, Harriet Stevenson, The Hearing Center (Heather Armstrong), AJ’s Boarding and June Pitts for their help collecting handouts. A donation was made to the American Heart Assn – SC.

Our MYF In Action

In February, our youth were on a mission!

One of their ongoing projects is keeping pencils and envelopes in the slots on the back of the church pews. Thank you MYF!

On Feb. 13, the MYF delivered gift baskets to our shut-ins and elderly. The packages were

sponsored by Thrivent.

On Feb. 26, they visited HiWire in Irmo. They had a great turnout, and everyone had a lot of fun. These mission projects incorporated the 40 Acts of Kindness. The goal was for each person to go out of their way to do at least one kind thing for someone that they probably wouldn’t normally do. It was great to see the youth group involved and interacting in this way.

Foster and Sharon Senn were recognized for their many years of service as youth leaders of Trinity MYF.

Dear Trinity,Thank you for the crystal, gift and kind words as we “retired” as youth leaders. We enjoyed being MYF leaders as we worked with

many Christian young people and parents. It was good for our faith as well.

We’d like to thank Beverly Brehmer for being treasurer, which made everything much easier.

Erin and Josh Pitts will be outstanding youth leaders.

Best Regards, Sharon and Foster Senn
