ANTHEM Benedictus (from Mass in G) SchubertBlessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.

SCRIPTURE LESSON Luke 19:1-10Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through it. A man was there named Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was rich. He was trying to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was short in stature. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see him, because he was going to pass that way. When Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.” So he hurried down and was happy to welcome him. All who saw it began to grumble and said, “He has gone to be the guest of one who is a sinner.” Zacchaeus stood there and said to the Lord, “Look, half of my possessions, Lord, I will give to the poor; and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will pay back four times as much.” Then Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he too is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek out and to save the lost.”

ROUND HILL COMMUNITY CHURCH MISSION STATEMENTWe, the members of the Round Hill Community Church, a self-governing, non-denominational body, seek to foster a community of faith where people of all ages and backgrounds pursue spiritual growth; where God is worshipped in Word and praised in music; where friends are made and hurts are healed. We seek to be a community where individuals commit their time and resources to education, fellowship, and to helping those in need among our Church family and in the broader world. We are a church where faith, hope, justice and love are valued, and above all, Jesus is Lord.

ROUND HILL COMMUNITY CHURCH CREEDI believe in God, the one universal Father of all mankind, revealed supremely in Jesus Christ, our Lord, and present with us to guide, comfort and inspire in the Holy Spirit. I believe in the Kingdom of God; and in the mission of the Christian Church to proclaim the Gospel to all the world, exalting the worship of the Lord our God, and laboring for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of righteousness, the reign of peace, and the realization of human brotherhood. United in Christian love, we pray and labor for the coming of the Kingdom, the triumph of righteousness and the life everlasting. Amen.

CHILDREN’S CORNER

There’s a Volunteer Fair going on over in the Community House today. That means that a bunch of local organizations have come today to share information with us about how they work in our community and how they help others. They’re also asking us to get involved and help others. That might seem like a tall order for a little kid who generally might still need help themselves. But have you ever seen a seed, like from an apple or an orange? It’s not really very big at all. Yet, somehow, if it is planted into good soil and well-watered and tended, it can grow into a large and fruitful apple or orange tree!

The Bible tells us that whatever a man sows, that is what he will reap. What does “sow” even mean? It’s not needle-and-thread sew. This is a different sow. This “sow” means to harvest, or to pick. So, the Bible tells us that you get what you plant, and it doesn’t mean fruits and vegetables!

If you plant an apple seed you get an ________If you plant a squash seed you get a _________If you plant a tomato seed you get a _________If you plant evil you’ll get ___________ (evil) If you plant good you’ll get __________ (good)

So, when you hear someone say “you get what you give” it means that we’ll get out of something that which we put into it. If we put our time, effort and love into helping someone else, like we can through voluntarism, we can expect to get something good out of it for ourselves. So, don’t worry that you’re a little seed....even the littlest of seeds can bear great fruit!

A Child’s Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, your word says that we’ll reap what we sow, so I pray you’ll help me to do good for all people so I’ll be sure to bear good fruit. Amen.

REFLECTIONS

We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give. Winston S. Churchill

I must be willing to give whatever it takes to do good to others. This requires that I be willing to give until it hurts. Otherwise, there is no true love in me, and I bring injustice, not peace, to those around me. St. Teresa of Calcutta

Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present. Albert Camus
