A. Joe: I sent an email to RHA, RA’s and student senate, we have a lot of interviews next week. The community standards position and the director of student leadership. If you can have lunch with 12:15 Tuesday and Thursday and those are in Hubbel. That will be catered lunch in Olmsted, 12 mon and wed. Interview will be 2 mon and wed. Good Job on staying cool.

B. Jerry: I wanted to thank all of you that helped with the bus trips. Our students help us recruit the next class. We try to show them all what we are about. Another round will happen in April. This is the class of 2022. In the Midwest valley tournament, the men’s play vs Bradly at 2:30. The women won big today. This is great for the university. Staff and I want to thank all the student leaders for the patience for leadership office personel, it is important we get great talent, we greatly appreciate that in the upcoming week you help with the selection. This spring hasn’t allowed me to open office hours. If you want to talk with me, feel free to call or email me. It is important that you all feel free to do so. Social media has provided a lot of pros, but also cons. I think it is important when we work for MVP. There is an importance when we calling people in not just out. If someone posts something that is of a concern, someone should roughout to them without calling them out. Something is to be said to take that opportunity, educate and teach them. Some of the stuff I see from students and the community is of deep disappointment. I think we can do a better job when it comes to social media. I hope we can call out community it to allow them to learn. We are in this middle ground on navigating social media. It is difficult, we are trying to foster better behavior as an administration. I would ask you to use it responsibly. If your gut tells you not to post something, go with your gut.

VI. Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer Trevor MatusikA. Annual funding for the first stage is completed. Officially we have 42 orgs going through the

process. 4 ore than last year. I have still yet to pile all the numbers together. We are ready, it will be a long weekend. I am excited for sac members to witness the interesting processes.

VII.SpeakersA. Scott Law Director for Campus Public Safety

a. Thank you for allowing me to come in and talk to you about parking. Last year, the university started to look at the cost of parking. We about 4 years down on maintenance in our parking lots. This including resurfacing and stripping. We are still using analog cameras. The parking program is a self-sustaining program. Last we put forth the proposal for new parking rates. The parking committee decided that we will not increase rates last year but, o it this year. The commuter rate is currently $160.00, the resident $250.00 a year. Evening and weekend (after 4:30) is $90.00. Several changes, Olmsted lot is now an open lot, not pay. We closed Olmsted last year a couple times, and it will be closed for 4 events. Two admissions events in the fall and one in the spring and during relays. We will push the rest to lot 24. We have removed the number of reserved spaces, and the rest of them will be removed shortly, the ray society spaced will also be removed. Uber can be used through bulldog bucks, we also promote dart bussing. Something we will be introducing, and internships with enterprise, we will be introducing we cars, they are rental cars that will be kept on our ground. You can rent them for 1 hour to 5 days, you rent a car if you are18-year-old, 17 can too. That will be available starting in August. Starting with 3 cars. There will be a paid intership apart of that. We are looking to change our rates. We are looking at a 3-year gradual change. And holding them for 2 years after that. They haven’t been changed since 08. Rates evening will be stay at $85. Commuter $190 resident $250 stay. 2020 rates will be $100, $215 $260, 2021 rates will be$125 $250 $275 the resident rate only changes 50 dollars over the 3 years. We did have to increase rates on the residents, the patrol we weren’t able to hold in the exact same. That is what we are proposing currently. We do not set rate, we look at other schools, with this change we will be in line with them. The next parking committee will be in two weeks. I would be happy to take feedback

1. Questions: a. VP Gleason: We have seen during basketball and relays that commuter

students use, often get blocked off. I know some students must park in those. Is that something that must happen.

Page 3: drakesenate.comdrakesenate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/180301.docx  · Web viewMINUTES. For the 20th Meeting of the 31st Session. 1 March 2018. Room 201 9:00pm – Cowles Library

i. Scott: What we did during relays, 6am 9am we will not allow anyone, but drake students can park in the lots. We will be doing the same burring the Iowa state. We will hold the for only drake staff. You can still come after 9 oils, and we will still be charging any visitors, which may discourage them. Forest avenue will be closed during the drake relays, due to terrorist attacks, 27th for 29th street

b. Senator Bayne: I was wondering if those rates will be viable online. i. Scott: Not yet, till the president’s council votes, I have no

problem with sending them to president Paulsen thought he secrete or Paulsen,

c. Senator Anderson: I except the challenges as a street parker. There are weekly and monthly parking pass. Will you investigate a j-term parking lot?

i. Scott: We can easily do that, I know other students reached out to dean parker. We did tow some into our lots., We are happy to do that for next year.

d. Joe: If your cars get towed, they can sell it after 11 days. Just a tip to all of you.

A. MOTION SS [180301] – A; [Drake Actuarial Professional Exam Preparation Approval] – [Senator Crompton]

a. Seconded by Senator Morresi b. Dialogue to speaker in the back

i. Chances are that you have heard about Actuarial Science Exams and that the exam process is hard and important. The two-accrual programs are more focused on the networks in the department. The exams are the most important part. This club will be a free resource, we have taken one and are taking two more soon. We have made study guides, I want to expand this more to help people pass these, it would be nice for them to find study partners or help with the extra questions.

1. Treasurer Matusik: how many people are interested?a. Speaker: WE have about 20 people, since exams are at different

time there will be interests at different times. We have a lot who like this club.

2. Treasurer Matusik why don’t the other clubs create a segment for exam prep

a. Speaker: I am also in drake accrual student society, it provided developed pop, they don’t help, neither programs have the processes, they also are due based, this organization is free, a stress-free resource.

3. Proxy ross: Is it just you two making the guisea. Speaker: Right now, yes, but we are looking at the guides, and

professors, we have professor Judd who is out divisor, is also helping out

Page 4: drakesenate.comdrakesenate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/180301.docx  · Web viewMINUTES. For the 20th Meeting of the 31st Session. 1 March 2018. Room 201 9:00pm – Cowles Library

7. Proxy Maciejewski: Can your explain why other clubs don’t help with exams

a. Speaker: They are only on professor development8. Treasurer Matusik: if you offered this from the clubs, we don’t have to

wing to the clubs. If you are part of the club you would assist. a. Speaker: I am not do on the das, dads have its own requirements.

We want to work together with both organizations. We are not trying to get funding, we want to help students

9. Senator Garcia-further: how much are the other orgsa. Speaker: Gamma Iota Sigma it him about 100. Das 15 dollars more

if you want the t-shirt10. VP Gleason: Do you think you will be able sustain this

a. Speaker: We have two first year, I have no doubt that this will be popular, these exams will vow time consuming

11. Treasurer orgs: where will this be filed, and will they sit on the cape council

a. This is an important topic. Thank you for letting me speak. I along with other students on this campus, we are other students are passionate about this topic. We are a pro life organization. We want to be an educational tool, a way to reduplicate dengue. We hope to be open, so students can feel open to talk about this issue. If we were to be cornered to one party or another, you don’t need to be aligning. This is a special interest group. We plan to have meeting once a month open to all students, we will also hold meeting, once a sister we want to hold events with tony Tyler whether that be with tony Tyler to keep up with we jape, we will have lists at each event per semester to keep roster up to date. I realized that some of you in this room don’t a line with these views, I hope this does not have an impact on how you vote today. If you believe drake needs to take steps for an inclusive, there is not need to set aside your personal beliefs, - JMc.

i. Senator Morresi: What other social issues will you cover?1. Speaker: Abortion will be what we focus in on, could

be women’s rightsii. Proxy haring: What event will you be hosting Ans who with

1. Speaker: With the highest regard have respect on of our main goals is respect, it is something that is respectful we can learn from each other. Situation by situation, we could send out and email explaining, we could have a forum, we would have to see when we get there.

vii. Senator Garcia-Fuerte: I find the language intergang1. Speaker: Don’t have answer

viii. Senator García: how many members are in this organization, are also member of different orgs that are in other that share the same belief

of these people are not on the republican email

ix. Senator Morresi: If the leadership found out some members were targeting people who don’t agree with you.

1. Speaker: We would deal with that, we could send out an email and shut that down.

x. Senator Bayne: are you fafiated with the students for life n 2015-2016

1. Noxi. Senator janes; I know there is the march for life in

Washington, Weill you look ingot that?1. Speaker: We could investigate that, they do have the

same belief, I would not sure how we would fund that, outside groups or maybe sponsors

xii. VP Gleason: Can you detail the struct of the etc.1. Speaker: I believe we have 4 top exec. President up

xxiv. Senator Morresi: Will students for life, responded from disrepute comments of social maid

1. Speaker: We will be respectful, we will respond in a respect position. Social media is easy to hide behind.

c. Dialogue on the motioni. Senator Bullington: There is a historical precedent and I think that is important. I

met with john and he is well prepared. I think this is a necessary organic to have on campus. This will allow people to find a community on any spectrum this follow the drake mission statement

ii. Senator Gleason: I think the question leads from the pro-choice questions it covers a sensitive topic area. Historical student for life, given past tabling expiries, I am glad john is wanting to be inclusive.

iii. Senator Garcia-Fuerte motion to students from other students in the back1. Hello everyone, I am Cleo, reproductive choice organization, I encourage

civil discourse, I have a lot of resections due to the ties from larger organization. You said you aren’t tied, but you use their resources. I am couscous that a student org has on campus, the student for life on 44% on the college campus student of rife encourage crisis pregnancy rocues which is dangerous. Just a quote, the code of conduct university the students for life in the national forum, the state is using, the drake code of conduct, words can be hurtful. Tonight, we must all remember the word will lead to negatives consequences on women on this campus, I think

Page 7: drakesenate.comdrakesenate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/180301.docx  · Web viewMINUTES. For the 20th Meeting of the 31st Session. 1 March 2018. Room 201 9:00pm – Cowles Library

there have only been men talking on women’s rights. That makes me uncomfortable, would like to hi voice of choice does a lot off campus. We do a lot of outreach.

2. I have been in the military for nine years now, I have not been able to inclusive I deel that this is an organization I can get behind. I know I am a male speaking for pro-life. I know there are a lot of women who want to feel inclusive to all groups on this campus. I two if any violate can not be promoted. ‘

iv. Diageo on the floor1. Proxy Caldwell: Any organization or office or student which plans to limit

the voices and choices of the women at our school and the women within our community does not align with what I read the various mission statements, vision statements and inclusion statements on campus to say. Any organization or office or student which could, potentially, have a focus of disrupting the phenomenal work/resources that community organizations provide women in Des Moines with (for example Planned Parenthood) also does not align with what I read our statements to say. The Iowa Senate, as of this week, passed a bill which limits women’s voices and choices further: where no physician can perform an abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected. This can happen as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. This type of rapid decision making, and limitations placed on women within our community and women at our University, including students, is entirely reckless and oppressive. After the passing of this bill through the Senate, with a high potential of carrying it into law, I am not sure what place this organization will serve on campus with bills passing through the senate limiting Iowan women to make critical life decisions within a six-week time span. Basically, I don’t fully understand the purpose or place for approval on our specific campus.

2. Senator Bayne: I would hope there would be a forum held by organizationsa. Speaker in back:

i. Lauren Carol: I want to touch on the topic of lake of women in this organization. I am a woman and I stand with john. I think we are throng to work together, if we are trying to voice our opinion, we will try to voice this as an established. Club. If students looking at this campus see this organization, they might choose to come here. There are many women here that stand for this.

b. The reason I asked john about the 2016 org. I am confident with the new leadership we will

3. Treasurer Matusik: it is always important to discuss this. John over here has answered a lot of questions, as I am aware, this club has done nothing to tarnish themselves or do anything that would make us view them in a negative light. No matter what political view, give this organization the ability to thrive on this campus. I am in support of this motion. All organizations should have the same abilities

4. Senator Maciejewskia. Speaker in the back

i. I cofounder of students for life. I noticed there is a strong presence I think this organization. In regards that the pro-life dudes that time is over, and the least religious. This is not a religious organization.

5. Vice President Gleason: Giving that the same, is there an intent to name for drake student for life or student of life

a. I want to stress that we will be under drake’s umbrella.

Page 8: drakesenate.comdrakesenate.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/180301.docx  · Web viewMINUTES. For the 20th Meeting of the 31st Session. 1 March 2018. Room 201 9:00pm – Cowles Library

6. Vice President Gleason: It is important to be critique. Especially those who are victors of sexual assault sometimes it is tough

7. Senator Garcia: Speaker in the backa. Cleo: I think this group has a future on this campus, due to the

murky relationship on this campus. I think this organization needs to be relooked out. The student code of conduct says, that words can be harmful.

8. Senator Garcia-Fuerte: I personally I don’t believe this is political but humanitarian. The politics around this has become stubborn. I think the values go against drake community

9. Senator Anderson: If they use religious working in posting, would they be a religious org. I’m asking since you can’t give religious groups annual funning

a. None10. Senator Anderson: I hope all the facts given out are accurate, given the

topics of emptions on economic, racial, and being supportive of that. Someone from being a low

d. CTQ by Senator Andersone. Seconded by VP Gleason f. Motion Carries

C. MOTION SS [180301] – C; [Active Minds Approval] – [Senator Crompton]a. Seconded by Senator Bullingtonb. Dialogue from speakers in the back

i. Active minds, is a mental help organization. And fight the stigma’s We may ask for annual funding. The national chapter will have us covered. We want to improve mental health incentives. We want to cover mental health stigmas, we can work with other clubs with

1. VP Gleason: What sort of plans do your java to work with the coupling center

a. Speaker: We want to, but I think we can work in tandem with the coupling center. To be nationally required we got affiliated with national campus.

2. Senator Garcia Fuerte: What plans are you a. Speaker: We are open working with any organizations. I think that

working with those organizations. 3. Treasurer Matusik: Have you talked to active minds as you can have more

resources. Was that a discussion, and to write love on her armsa. Speaker: We want to change policy, they are for prevention. They

have different national resources. c. Dialogue on the motion

i. Senator Bayne: I am very excited Avery stepped up, illogicity is a part of this organotin. Dr clover dance will allows us to have more resources

ii. Senator Anderson: mental health is an epidemic that is important. I think this is cool.

iii. Proxy MAC: I am a new member of love on her arms. No comparison iv. Treasure Matusik: Seeing that senator bane brought this to campus as she

campaigned on this. v. VP Gleason: The more orgs for mental health the better. I am proud of senator
