They have activated their “superpowers” to look and point and then read everything they can. As they read familiar texts, they are learning to point under each word making the pointing and the reading match. This is known as “Pointer Power” Our students continue to read privately and with a partner every day. Please continue to practice your High Frequency Words. These are words that students should know automatically. Knowing these words will help them build their reading skills and motivate them to want to read EVERYTHING! In the second half of this math module, students learn about solid shapes and recognize the presence of flats within the solids (the top of a cylinder is the shape of a circle). Flat and solid shapes will continue to be included in activities all through the year so that students have repeated experiences with shapes.

Taller de Lectura

Durante el taller de lectura los alumnos están aprendiendo estrategias para desarrollar mejores maneras de leer. Ellos han activado sus “super-poderes” para mirar, señalar, y entonces leer todo lo que puedan. Mientras se familiarizan con los textos ellos están aprendiendo a señalar debajo de la palabra y conectar la palabra que corresponde en la lectura. Esto es conocido como “El Poder de Apuntar”. Nuestros alumnos continúan leyendo en privado y con un compañero/a. Por favor continúe practicando sus Palabras Frecuentes. Estas son palabras que los niños/as deben saber automáticamente. Conociendo estas palabras ayudarán a su hijo/a a adquirir destreza y motivación en la lectura para leer TODO.

¡Asuntos Matemáticos!

En la Escuela Prospect, los estudiantes de Kindergarten comenzaron a aprender acerca de las figuras sólidas y planas en su mundo. Ellos comenzarán a describir el nombre, encontrar y clasificar figuras planas (por ejemplo, hay tres lados y tres esquinas en esta figura, porque es un triángulo). En la segunda etapa de este módulo matemático, los estudiantes aprende acerca de figuras sólidas y reconocen la presencia de figuras planas con las sólidas (la tapa de un cilindro tiene una figura de un circulo). Las figuras planas y sólidas continuarán siendo incluidas en las actividades a través de todo el año, de esa manera los alumnos experimentarán repetidas veces con las figuras.
