Ms-word

with word 2000, the word processing component of the Microsoft office 2000 suite, and can create letters, memos, invoices, proposals, reports, forms, web pages, and just about any other printed or electronically distributed document.

You can type text into word and insert drawings or scanned photos, formatting the text and graphics into sophisticated documents complete with running headers and footers, footnotes, cross-references, page numbers, tables of contents, and indexes. Or you can create simple text memos with word’s easy-to-use features.

Word’s approach, like that of the other applications in the office suite, is entirely visual. As you work in a document, you see all the text, graphics, and formatting exactly as they will appear when you print it.

Word can easily work in concert with the other office applications too. It can display numbers from excel or access or slides from PowerPoint. It can use outlook information to create labels and lists.

Ms-excel

with excel 2000, the spreadsheet of the Microsoft office suite, you can track, calculate, and analyze numbers and create charts to depict this information visually.

After you type numbers

Page 11: file · Web viewSubmitted to the Anna University practical Examination held on .at Chettinad College of Engineering & Technology, Karur

into a grid of cells on an excel sheet, you can enter formulas in adjacent cells that total, subtract, multiply, or divide the numbers. You can also enter functions, from simple averaging to sophisticated financial calculations such as net present value. Excel can even calculate highly involved statistics, such as the inverse of the one-tailed probability of the chi-squared distribution.

Excel also offers simple database capabilities. You can accumulate records of information that are both textual and numeric and sort, search for, and extract data from a database.

To display numbers graphically, you can use excel to create a chart. Excel uses the same charting program as PowerPoint, so its charts are both professional looking and readable. You can also create pivot tables and pivot charts, which show alternative views of data.

TALLY :

TALLY is a financial accounting and inventory management system. It provides options to post stock value from inventory directly to balance sheet

Page 19: file · Web viewSubmitted to the Anna University practical Examination held on .at Chettinad College of Engineering & Technology, Karur

and profit and loss account. Tally provides you option to enter the value of closing stock for any specified date. The system is flexible and we need not create any journal voucher. It automatically picks up the closing stock value

Tally is primarily a codeless system and as such when a new ledger or group is created, it appers alphabetically within the parent group. It gives the facility to dynamically make columns to view data of any company, group, period or other parameters. We can randomly insert, delete or re-organize the columns on-the-fly and go to any depth of the report.

The usage of tally concept:

1. It permits to consolidate accounts of member companies at any time while keeping them as separate companies.

2. It provides reasonably good features to compute billing terms like sales tax, discount, excise duty, surcharge in invoice etc.

3. It automatically logs all changes of ledger and vouchers and also provides reasonably good security features to control rights to individual users, permitting or restricting their access as desired.

4. It allows us to use multiple currencies useful for importers, exporters and multinational companies.

5. To make invoicing simpler, faster and error free. Tally allows setting individual voucher class with the default rate type.

6. Tally provides stock transfer voucher to move item from one godown to another, dismantle an item into its components or to assemble the components

7. It give some rudimentary facilities to track the cheques with the clearance in bank pass book and also help to statutory auditors to track down clearance of cheques at later period, to build up the bank reconciliation statement(BRS)
