Notes: Adjective Agreement An __________________________ is a word that describes someone or something.
In French, adjectives are ________________________ and __________________________.
They are also ___________________________ and _______________________________.
This means that an adjective must agree with the gender and quantity of the item(s) that it is
describing.
Exemple:Il est intelligent. Vs Elle est intelligenteIls sont intelligents vs Elles sont intelligentes
There are some rules to help us change the adjectives to their different forms.
Masculine to Feminine Rules:
Rule #1: If the masculine adjective ends with a consonant, you add an E to make it feminine.Rule #2: If the masculine adjective ends with “eux”, you change it to “euse” to make it feminine.Rule #3: If the masculine adjective ends with “if”, you change it to “ive” to make it feminine.Rule #4: If the masculine adjective ends with “eur”, you change it to “euse” to make it feminine.Rule #5: If the masculine adjective ends with “e”, you do NOTHING to make it feminine!
Singular to Plural Rules:
Rule #1: For most adjectives, you add an “s” to the end to make it plural.Rule #2: If the word ends in a “u”, you add “x” to make it plural.Rule #3: If the word already ends in “s”, you do NOTHING to make it plural
Attention! There are a few adjectives that are odd.One of these adjectives is “beau”. There are several forms of “beau”.
Beau = masculine and singularBel = masculine, singular, and starts with a vowelBelle = feminine and singularBeaux = masculine and pluralBelles = feminine and plural

Les dents de Zach GalfanakisÉcrit par : Jeremy Northrop (éditeur: Mme. Zapor)
belle, petite, jeune fille anglaise. Ils vont à un troisième restaurant qui s’appelle Lord of the Fries.

Notes : Adjective Placement in FrenchMost adjectives in French go _________________________ the noun. In English, the
adjectives go before the noun. In French, only a certain few go before the noun.
How do you remember which ones go before and which ones go behind ? BAGS !
Adjectives that deal with Beauty, Age, Goodness, and Size.
B Beau, joli, laid
A Jeune, vieux, nouveau
G Bon, meilleur, mauvais, gentil
S Petit, haut, gros
ATTENTION
The adjective _______________________ does not follow the BAGS rule !
If you say « un grand homme », you are saying a great man. To say a tall man, you must say
« un homme grand ». This is only when you are talking about people. Grand still goes in the
front when you are describing an object.
