Christmas Miracles In the busy-ness of this month, a special calling and privilege of Christians is to meditate on the many miracles of the season, and to marvel at their messages. It is a miracle, of course, that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a virgin. The New Testament account is very specific. Mary and her fiancé had not yet slept together as husband and wife. But the angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she will be the mother of the Messiah, that her son will be called the Son of the Highest, and that this son will be conceived in her not by human means but by the Holy Spirit Himself. Before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18). It is a miracle of faith that Mary believed the angel and she is rightly honored for her faith and faithfulness. It is a miracle, too, that when Joseph hears the story, he believes Mary. He was a righteous man (1:19). But even a righteous man in love likely found it hard to understand how a fiancée can be pregnant without him. As sinners, we are inclined to believe the worst. But Joseph, too, is visited by an angel who tells him that the boy will be called Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. Joseph's continued love for Mary and her child is a Christmas miracle in itself. And many more miracles in the Christmas story could be counted. What miracles do you celebrate this month? Perhaps, given the hectic pace of the month, you count it miraculous if you can make any time at all to ponder the real “reason for the season.” But in addition to the miracles of Mary and Joseph and the Christ child, take time to count the other miracles in your life: the relationships into which He has placed you, the freedom to worship, and the miracle that you believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God, Son of Mary.

♥ December ANNIVERSARIES ♥

DECEMBER BIRTHDAYS

We honor birthdays and anniversaries on the Second Sunday of every month. If you would like to help with refreshments for those who are celebrating, bring your treat to church that morning.

In the Hospital? If you find yourself hospitalized, I would like to visit!

But rather than relying on the hospital to contact me, please give me or the church office a call with your information. I’d be happy to stop by, share a word of Scripture and prayer.

If you have a planned surgery, I’d be happy to visit before the procedure. Just let me know the specific hospital as well as the time you are supposed to check in and the time of the procedure. I’ll do my best to be there in between those two times.

Thanks! – Pastor Toenjes

Wonder Window School Board

Merry December everyone! It doesn't seem possible that we are at

the end of another year. Many thanks to all who have helped Wonder Window during 2016. We couldn't do it without your support. The children's Christmas Program will be Sunday, December 11, at 5 pm. You are all invited to come and enjoy the children's performances - their gift to family, friends and especially to Baby Jesus. Wonder Window School Board wishes you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!God's continued blessings on you all.

Women’s Fellowship Guild

Soup’s on! As we continue to support the mission of LCoP in prayer and stewardship our projects fund the needs of others where needed or requested. Our financial

support of the Federwitz Missionary work is a good example at this time. Several members (like 8) of our group have stepped up to volunteer to shop, chop and prepare the up and coming soup to be prepared and sold soon, all this is led by Sheila Eynaud. Important Notice: Women’s Fellowship has voted to change our meeting time to 11:00 a.m. still the 1st Tuesday of the month to accommodate those having bible study with Pastor Toenjes prior to our meeting that morning. Traditionally fellowship with lunch only with all women is held at the Guild House in December, your reservation is requested. We will continue January 3, 2017 at 11:00 in the library with meetings through June and resume in September. Join in any time. Sign-up for a license plate frame will be made available in the Narthex.

Advent traditions“The way you celebrate Christmas can be a gift in itself,” said Fred Rogers, “handing on traditions that will give your child a feeling of continuity,

comfort and joy in all the Christmases to come.” In American homes, common Advent traditions

include wreaths, calendars and logs. Did you know about these European traditions?

• In Normandy, children used to set fires in fields during Advent. The flames killed caterpillar eggs and drove away rodents. The tradition reflected good conquering evil, just as God’s perfect Son

rescues us from sin.

• On December 13, Scandinavian countries honor Saint Lucy (or Lucia), a third-century martyr who, according to legend, brought food to people in the

catacombs during winter. For light — and to be able to carry as much food as possible — she wore a wreath of candles on her head. On St. Lucy’s Day, the oldest daughter gets up early and brings sweet

rolls to family members. The tradition reminds Christians that Jesus is a gift of light and love for

our dark world.

Dear Wonder Window and Lutheran Church of Prayer family, “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart. I will recount all of Your wonderful deeds” Psalm 9:1.

This is one of my favorite times of the year, when families gather together to celebrate the many blessings that have been given to each of us. We all have a warm, safe place to rest our heads, access to nutritious food, freedom to worship as we choose and choices when it comes to our individual lives. Not everyone can say that and we need to be grateful daily for our blessings and all that they bring. Our curriculum themes for the month of November reflect our thankfulness. We will be learning about Native Americans, Thanksgiving Traditions and God Sending His Son. The younger children will be learning the letters G, H and I and exploring the numbers 7-9. Our colors are yellow and brown. We will be making triangles this month so be sure to talk about our shape with your child. If your child is in the Pre-K class, be sure to read their teacher’s information regarding their current letter sounds. During Chapel, we will be learning more about several of God’s messengers. Naaman, Jonah and the Three Who Remained Standing. We will also learn about the Birth of John the Baptist. Did you know he and Jesus were cousins? We will be putting out a note asking you to let us know if your child will be attending the week of Thanksgiving. We will be opened Monday through Wednesday that week but understand many of you will be traveling for the holidays. We want to be sure to staff appropriately so please, fill this out and return it to your teacher as soon as possible. A similar note will go out in December for the Christmas holiday. Our annual Thanksgiving Feast will be on Wednesday, November 23rd and you are all invited to attend. We will have lunch at 11 a.m. this day and are looking forward to many of the traditional favorites. Please sign up in your child’s classroom so we have an idea of how much to prepare. We hope you can all make it for this special lunch with your child.

We would like to say “Thank you!” to the Hernandez family for selling so many Save Around coupon books. They earned the prize of $100 off of their October tuition. That’s 2 years in a row!! Thank you to all who participated. Over $1100 was raised for future fun activities for the children. We appreciate you all for being so involved in our sales. There are a few books remaining if you know someone who still would like one. See me in the office. Speaking of sales, this month we will be selling POPCORN! Popcorn Palace popcorn is flavored and delicious. We receive 50 percent of sales and did really well the last 2 years. The popcorn will be delivered in time to allow it to be a fresh Christmas present. The sale begins on Monday, November 14th

and ends on Monday, November 28th. The popcorn will be delivered the week of December 16th. Personally, I am looking forward to the White Chocolate Peanut Butter popcorn and the Chicago Mix. If you have any questions, be sure to call or stop by the office. The top 3 sellers will receive a break on their December tuition. I wanted to remind you of our Parent Referral Credit? If you recommend us to a family member or friend and they sign their child up at Wonder Window, you will receive a tuition credit of $50 once they have been enrolled for a month. Be sure to have them mention you sent them. You can use this credit up to 12 times per year. Several of our families have taken advantage of this recently. Thank you for sharing us with your friends and family! In His love,Charla HeriderDirector

Miss Vanessa’s ClassHello parents! Fall is here and the weather will begin to get cooler. Soon, the leaves will begin turning colors. The children continue to be eager and ready to learn. I love seeing their faces light up with joy when they learn a new concept. This month you will see our classroom full of orange and black art projects as we learn these colors. I want to wish a very happy birthday to Maverick and Aiden this month as they turn 3. We will be having a Western Roundup on October 31st at 9:00 a.m. This is a fun opportunity to spend a little extra time with your child and their friends. You can also donate goodies. A sign up list will be up soon. We hope to see you here on that day. God bless!

Miss Rachel’s ClassHello Parents! Can you believe that fall is upon us? Our mornings are already beginning to get cooler and soon we will begin to see the leaves begin to change colors. Hoot, hoot! Our 3’s class is busy working like little owls. We are working hard on learning our letters and sounds and tucking that knowledge away in our brains. The letters for the month of October are D, E and F. The numbers we will learn are 4, 5 and 6. We will learn about squares and the colors orange and black. Continue to practice our weekly Bible verses. Let’s remember to keep those who are sick or going through a hard time in prayer. God bless!

Miss Stephanie’s ClassHappy October! The weather is starting to get cooler the children are beginning to need a light sweater or jacket in the mornings. Be sure to label them with their names as many look alike. During the month our phonic letters will be c, k, e and h and our numbers are 7, 8, 9 and 10. We will be creating art using orange and black and our shape will be a triangle. Continue to review at home. We have a couple of things that happen during October. On Saturday, October 29th, LCoP will host Trunk or Treat beginning at 6:00 p.m.

It will be held in the east side parking lot (where you now park to come in). Then, on Monday, October 31st, Wonder Window will host our annual Western Round-Up from 9:00-10:30. Signs will be up soon with more information. Have a blessed month!

Ms. Joyce’s Class

Happy Fall to all my parents and families! We have been very busy learning many new things and reviewing what we know. I have really been enjoying getting to know everyone. Thanks for coming to Back to School Night and showing your support! It was nice to have you all there. We enjoyed our special trip to the Kern County Fair! A big thanks to all the parents and grandparents who participated. We couldn’t have done it without you! This month we will be looking at the season of fall and the changes it brings along with fire prevention, insects, feathered friends and food and harvest. In math we will be working on sorting and classifying and continuing to review our numbers under 10. We will have a special Black and Orange Day and Square Day and we will be working with letters e, h, r, m, d, g and o. Please continue to review your child’s work at home to reinforce what we are learning at school! We’ve been enjoying singing our praises to Jesus every morning. It’s a joy to sing together! Our Bible stories this month are God’s Battle Plan for Jericho, David the Singing Shepherd, David and Goliath, and King David and Mephibosheth. We are looking forward to a very special morning on Monday, October 31. We will be having our Western Round Up. Your child can dress up in their “Western wear” (Jeans and a bandana are fine!) and enjoy special games and activities. Look for sign-up sheets in the classroom for small toys, candy and other positions. We appreciate your help in making this a fun morning! God bless you and keep you!

Mr. Jacob’s ClassThe School Age class will have a class theme of “Shining with the Light of Jesus” for the month of October. We will be letting our lights shine bright for the love of Jesus. We will also be doing plenty of fall crafts and have our Halloween party on Monday, the 31st. We also want to wish Emerson and Joann a happy 6th and 8th birthday. May you all shine with the light of Jesus this month as well. God bless.
