Kyle Sheridan here with an internet marketing news update.

We’ve talked before about getting nice links from Yahoo.com using press releases and of course you can get good links from YouTube using videos. But here’s something I think a lot of people are missing but I’m tapping into. How to get a link from Apple.com. Simply publish a podcast and you will get a link from Apple.com and that’s got to look good for your link profile when Google comes along and check it out, who’s linking to your site.

So don’t be worried about competition. You want competition but you want to be so different that you can exist or coexist with other people in that space. In fact the ultimate goal is to be so different that people just want to deal with you and they’re not so interested in who else is there and they’re especially not that interested in price because now you’re not a commodity, you’re a stand out.

Well just consider that the harder you make it for people to use your product, the more difficult it is on a customer service point of view. You might get increased customer service inquiries. You might get increased dissatisfaction from the good people. Seth Godin posts about this and the idea is to reduce the friction to reduce the difficulty in using your products sometimes it’s putting in some steps to keep out thieves and bad people, but keep it to the minimum.

What I like to do is to make sure I watermark one of my documents using PDF Honeypot. That will put a little stamp of the IP address and email. But I don’t do it for all of the products; I usually just find one inside a batch of things. And it’s usually a one page document. That gives me a little trace guide to find out who’s stealing my stuff but it also means the rest of the documents are just normal and people get a good user experience.

If you’re running webinars, a lot of people in some markets don’t know the phrase webinar yet. It’s still early days. So what I suggest you do is call it an online event. Make it successful by renaming things in ways that people can actually relate to and understand it. This way, you increase the relevancy. Therefore you increase the result.
