Committee Responsibilities & Duties

- First and foremost to make a website that will advertise the Business

Leadership Conference and any other events we may be hosting (we

did not have any others this year, but there were other events in

previous years)

- Make a website that is both visually appealing and easy to navigate

- Update the website constantly as new information about the

conference becomes available

- Create a Sponsors page to honor those who have donated to our

conference and have links to each of their company websites

- Create a conference page that goes into detail about the conference,

the speakers, the keynote speaker, ticket pricing, etc.

- Consult your CFO to renew the website domain name and hosting

- Create a website that has a consistent theme/design across all pages

- Incorporate videos and pictures to make the website more

entertaining

- Touch upon and highlight the past conferences

Page 5: Website Committee Report

- This committee’s work should be finished well before the conference

so once you are done, help the other committees as the conference

approaches

Objectives/Goals & Vision- To create a visually appealing website that will match the colour

scheme of our logos that is designed by our Advertising Committee

and provide all key information regarding the conference and other

events such as

1. Important dates and descriptions of the event

2. Give credit to Sponsors

3. Highlight past conferences by listing all the previous keynote

speakers

4. Display relevant information on this year’s speakers in the form of

biographies, pictures, etc.

- Work with the Advertising Committee to make Business Leadership

social media accounts for promoting the class and all its events

Page 6: Website Committee Report

- If the Tickets and Tags Committee President allows it, try finding a

way to sell tickets online

- Incorporate new ideas and technologies into the website or beyond

such as:

1. A basic phone app

2. QR Codes

TimelineDecember, 2014: Signed into Wix account for the first time and started

exploring and learning how to use the Wix tools and design interface.

Started editing the previous website for ideas and practice. Brainstorming

ideas for website theme and design.

February 9th, 2015: Made a shortlist of favorite themes from the Wix theme

inventory that I would base the website’s organizational structure on

February 16th, 2015: Picked the best theme for the site and started with

very basic editing such as removing the default Wix pictures and logos.

February 23rd, 2015: Worked with CFO to renew the website domain name

and hosting. The basic design and text of the Home page and the About

Page was completed.

March 23rd, 2015: Sponsors page, Past Speakers page and Donations page

completed.

March 25th, 2015: Google Analytics account created.

April, 2015: Sponsors page was constantly being updated as new sponsors

made donations. Started the work on the structure and design of the

Conference page (while keeping it hidden from public view). Conference

subpages had different colour schemes to match the session logos rather

than the main Spark Success logo. Speaker information was added as

speakers were finalized by the Guest Speakers Committee.

April 29th, 2015: Website is completely finished and published to the public.

Early May, 2015: Since AV/Logistics and Website were combined this year,

from the point the website was done, I was working exclusively on

AV/Logistics tasks.

The Good, the Bad and the UglyThe Good:

- The website turned out to be great; it matched the logos, had a fluid

and consistent design, was visually appealing and received glowing

reviews from classmates and former Business Leadership students

alike.

- Had lots of high resolution videos and pictures.

- Incorporated a cool shading effect to the buttons when the mouse

hovers over them that really made the design even more special.

- Great detail was put into all the pages; everything was centered

properly, the text size and fonts matched, the colours were organized

with good contrast.

The Bad:

- We didn’t get the chance to use Google Analytics at all because once

the website was done we had to work on AV/Logistics exclusively

because its tasks were more urgent. Had these two Committees not

been merged than we could have used the visitor stats to see which

demographic of students weren’t aware the website existed and

relayed that information to the Advertising Committee.

- Wix’s mobile site editor is pretty bad and is very limited in what it

allows you to do. There’s obviously nothing you can do about that

Page 10: Website Committee Report

unless you change from Wix entirely. The Mobile site wasn’t terrible

but it wasn’t that great either.

The Ugly:

- I can honestly say that there were no ugly problems with the website.

It turned out great and our committee was really proud and enjoyed

making the site.

Recommendations

1. Talk to the Guest Speakers Committee President frequently as most of

the website information will be about your year’s speakers

2. Constantly be in touch with the Donations Committee so you can

update the Sponsors page regularly

3. Update the website immediately as information becomes available so

you don’t get crammed with information and rush to piece it together,

resulting in bad design.

4. Wix does not have spell check so check your spelling and grammar

very carefully before you publish something for the public to see.

There is nothing more unprofessional than simple spelling and

grammar mistakes.

5. Add links to all the sponsors’ websites if they have them.

6. However you choose to design the page, make sure your design

elements are consistent across every page

Page 11: Website Committee Report

7. Get the Hex colour codes the Advertising Committee used to make the

logos and use it in the site colour editor (if the Advertising Committee

used another colour code format to make the logos, ask them to

convert their codes to Hex and send them to you).

8. Use one of Wix’s premade themes to make the website rather than

starting from scratch. The website will look more professionally made

and will take a lot less time to make.

9. Add as many pictures and videos as you can, so long as they do not

start to clutter the website

10. Add a countdown clock to the Home page that tells you how

much time there is left till the conference. It is useful for the public

and for the class itself.

11. Make a Coming Soon page to use in the place of pages that you

are working on but are not finished; and publish them to the public.
