Message from our new Little SIR:

Glad to see everyone again. Hoped you enjoyed the

Mayor. As I brought up at the meeting, if there are any retired engineers out there who might be interested in

being a mentor to students at Napa High in the engineering department, let me know. They would love it!

Just a reminder, dues are due. We are still working on the Ladies Day Picnic, if you have any

possible donations, get them sooner than later. Our next speaker is {A Day At The Masters} by Jim Schlatter and the

following month is the Napa High Robotics. If you have any suggestions for a speaker, please let me know.

Just to let you know in case you did not hear, our Big Sir had back surgery and that is why he was not at our last meeting. Surgery went

good according to Carl. Hope everyone is doing well.

Respectfully Submitted, Little SIR, Tom Dawson

WINE VALLEY SIRS BRANCH #149Executive Committee Meeting

Napa Elks Lodge9:00 AM Tuesday, March 3, 2020

BEC Meeting was called to order by our Little Sir Tom Dawson at 9:06 AM. Little Sir Tom Dawson asked for the Roll to be called by the Secretary. Those in attendance were: Little Sir Tom Dawson, SIRS: George Clark, Pete Stupey, Ted Simmons, Frank Volis, Ron Kilby, Larry McCart, George Pitta, Dave San Filippo, Joel Levitt, Jim Prudhomme. Thus, there is a quorum. Big Sir Carl Hammond was absent noting his recovery from back surgery is going well. • MOTION to accept the March 3, 2020 agenda was made and seconded, PASSED. • MOTION to accept the February 4, 2020 minutes as presented was made by SIR Dave San Filippo, seconded by Sir

Ron Kilby, motion PASSED.• Treasurer’s Report: SIR Ted Simmons reported that the February 2020 ME cash balance was $8,645. Individual

members’ dues are past due now. [150 of 266 are paid]. On April 1, dues payment will increase to $20 from $15. Those who have NOT paid will be contacted by a committee.

• Membership Report: SIR Byron Petterson provided a report stating that our rooster count is 266. Five new members are expected to be installed this morning.

• Attendance Report: Sir Ed Suden suggested a minimal attendance requirement to be adopted for SIRS 149 members; discussion was tabled possibly for next month agenda new business.

• WEB-Facebook: SIR Adrian Fenderson said that all is up to date and postings are current. • Little SIR Tom Dawson reported that the speaker today will be Napa Mayor, Jill Techel. Future speakers will be: SIR

James Schlatter- Masters Golf; and Napa High school robotics team. A sample of a non-profit tax form was provided for consideration. Napa High school is asking for retired engineers who might help in mentoring students will be announced at the lunch meeting. Greeter volunteers are needed.

• The State report: Sir Dennis Pangburn will give a report to the general membership meeting.• Historian report: Sir Dennis is our SIRS 149 Historian, finding that in years-past 149 had an “oath” and “orientation”

process for new members. He will research and provide what other clubs are doing. Also, he found that the state describes a luncheon meeting as an “activity”, thus we should approve the Luncheon meeting as an activity in our BEC minutes thereby assuring insurance coverage.

• Administrative report: Little Sir Tom said that lunch today is Corned Beef and Cabbage. The draw for the Rooster Table happened. Sir Ron Kilby will set-up the banner today.

• OLD BUSINESS: • Nominating committee: Sir George Pitta, chair, Sir Jim Prudhomme and Sir Joel Levitt will have a report of their

findings soon • HLM Committee members: Sir Bob Hairston and Sir Stu Williams are the Honorary Life Member Committee and the

Nominees to be reported by April 1, 2020.• Activity Approval: • 1: SIRS 149- 12 monthly General Membership Meetings in 2020. (1st Tuesday at 11AM)• 2: Trippers and Hikers: Don Krieger leads a trip to the Point Reyes Light House on March 9th, 2020.• 3: Classic Cars: Dan McCabe leads a trip to the American Armory in Fairfield on March 12, 2020.• 4. Roving Roosters: Dave San Filippo leads a trip to the Nevada County Fairgrounds for Grass Valley Camping on

April 14-21, 2020. • Motion to approve the above slate of new activities, 1-4, was made by Sir Jim Prudhomme, seconded by Larry

McCart, unanimously PASSED- motion carried. • Lady’s Day Picnic discussions; members asked questions of the Picnic committee including contract is signed; raffle

tickets volunteers needed; bingo helpers needed; need 4 loudspeakers; cake cutter; rest rooms; drinks and desserts; auction runners. It was asked that we collect auction prizes early because last minute entry makes it near impossible for proper advertising, documentation and set-up for the auction. It was asked that, hopefully, some “Spa Day” and restaurant dinner auction prizes might be considered for this Lady’s Day event.

Little Sir Tom Dawson adjourned the meeting at 9:56am.Respectfully Submitted by Branch 149 Secretary, George Clark

18 Hole Golf with SIR Peter Dreier: Our regular February golf outing was held on February 19th at Chardonnay Golf Club in Napa with 52 Sirs golfers in attendance. At every monthly lunch, in the back of the room we have sign-up sheets for usually the next two golf outings and encourage all SIRS members who enjoy the game of golf to come out and play with us. The goal is to have lots of fun, make new friends with other SIRS brothers, share a lot of golf stories and not take ourselves too seriously. I want to personally invite all new SIRS members who recently joined 149 and indicated that they like to play golf to sign up for one of our upcoming golf events. If you do not have an official NCGA handicap index that is not a problem. We can help you get one and get on the SIRS 149 Golf Register. Respectively Submitted By, Peter Dreier, Chair.

Romeo/Dining Out with Ron Wilson: February had 31 Romeos and companions gathered at Don Perico Mexican Restaurant for a feast. It was our first opportunity to enjoy a “new” restaurant this year and it was a huge success! Service and food were outstanding and no one went away hungry. They offered to have us back next year so we must have run up a big enough bar tab to be invited back. On March 19 @6:00 pm the Romeos return to Trancas

Steakhouse for a Mixed Salad, choice of Prime Rib, Grilled Salmon, or Chicken Piccata, followed by their Chocolate Decadence dessert. They can take a group up to 60 so don’t be shy, this is a great opportunity to try the Sir’s 149 dine out experience. Dinner includes everything but the alcohol. Tip and Tax is always included with our Romeo Events. Cost is $40/each and you can bring a check made out to Sirs #149 to the lunch on March 3 and give it to Ron Wilson - Romeo Chairman. Cash works as well or simply mail a check to Sirs 149 to Ron Wilson P.O. Box 187 Napa, CA 94559. For more info. Contact Ron at 360-880-2652 or e-mail at [email protected] .

Roving Roosters with SIRs Bill Hester & Dave San Filippo: Roving Roosters Clam Chowder feed at Napa Valley mobile home park 1040 Orchard Ave. on the 21st of March. Theater with SIR Bob Benning: West Side Story was a complete sell out!! Vintage High is amazed that SIR 149 set a six year record of selling 86 tickets to West Side Story. What is a bigger part of this it the number of orders that were for more than 2 seats. Numerous purchases were for four, five, or even seven seats. This tells me this has evolved into a friends or family event. Thank you for making this SIR 149 an even bigger element in Napa Valley. For more info contact Bob at 337-2614.

Traveling with SIR Tom Jensen: SIRS DAY AT THE RACES will be Friday, MARCH 27th . This has become an annual fun-filled event! Sign up early & have great day at the Races. The cost is $41 and includes parking, reserved seating, a grand prime rib buffet luncheon, and racing program! For more Info contact SIR Dave San Filippo @ 707-255-3482.

Hikers and Trippers with Don Krieger: This month we will be going to Point Reyes Lighthouse on Monday March 9. That’s Monday instead of Tuesday because it is closed on Tuesday. Point Reyes Headlands juts 10 miles (16 km) out to sea and pose a threat to ships traveling between San Francisco Bay and locations to the north. The historic Point Reyes Lighthouse was built in 1870 to warn mariners of this navigational hazard

and served for 105 years. The Point Reyes Lighthouse was retired from service in 1975 when the U.S. Coast Guard installed an automated light adjacent and below the historic tower. The Coast Guard then transferred ownership of the lighthouse to the National Park Service, which has taken on the job of preserving this fine specimen of our maritime heritage. Visitors will likely experience high winds, cool temperatures, fog, and/or rain along the 0.65-mile (1.05-km) walk to the lighthouse; so dress appropriately. Wear layered clothing. There are no food services so let’s pack a picnic lunch and bring a water bottle. There is limited parking so we will be carpooling leaving from Solano/Redwood lot at 9:00.There are steps but we will take it slow and about a half mile walk from the car. Please RSVP to me at Dkwonderful@gmail or text me at 925-548-5714. Don!

Walkers with SIR Dave Henry: Our walking group is moving back to Alston Park starting Monday, February 10th. We will meet in the south parking lot of Alston Park at 8:00 a.m. We will begin our walk around the perimeter of Alston. It will take about 1 hour with lively conversation and friends. All wives, partners, and friends are welcome to join us. For more information contact Dave Henry at [email protected] or by phone at 227-7413.

Webpage & Facebook with Adrian Fenderson: We are proud of our SIR #149 website. Note that there is a button that will be linked to a PDF of the new person application, Please look at our site and suggest any changes you would like to see so that we can make it very user friendly.  We encourage all SIRS to keep up with what is happening between newsletters by signing up for Facebook and look at our SIR Branch 149 Facebook page.
