We regularly travel up to 1000 miles round trip for weddings. That is within driving distance of us and if we don't have a back-to-back wedding we'll take the kids and make a weekend out of it. Otherwise, we fly and leave our children with a sitter.

The current federal reimbursement rate is $.54 per mile, but don't forget to account for your time and if the distance will require you to book an hotel or eat away from home.
