LAGARES WWTP, SPAIN, 2014Challenge: As no supplementary space was available to modernize the existing wastewater treatment plant, the existing biological treatment plant had to be decommissioned to free up space for the construction of a modern biofiltration plant. In order to ensure that effluents that will be discharged have no harmful impact on the marine life, an efficient and environmentally sound disinfection system was needed.
Solution: A Wedeco Duron UV disinfection system installed in three channels ensures that up to 172.8 MLD of primary treated effluent is discharged into the sea without any negative impact on the environment.
ALBANY, USA, 2013Challenge: Constructed in 1974 the site required a state-of-the-art disinfection system that could quickly and efficiently respond to the rapid flow increases during storm events, and eliminate hazards associated with the original in-place chlorine disinfection system.
Solution: The four existing chlorine contact chambers were refurbished with a Wedeco Duron UV disinfection system. As even the peak flow rate of 204 MLD can be handled with only three UV channels operational, there is always one channel in a reserve. Since its installation, the system achieves disinfection levels far below permit levels with coliform counts in the single digits most times.
CHICHESTER, UK, 2014Challenge: The wastewater of the treatment works is discharging into sensitive and specially protected shellfish waters, which needs particular protection from untreated stormwater spills during severe storm events.
Solution: A single channel of a Wedeco Duron UV disinfection system, equipped with 10 banks of UV lamps, today disinfects 26 MLD of stormwater and protects the beautiful harbor.
ZHENGZHOU, 2016Challenge: Zhengzhou City’s direct utilization rate of reclaimed water is planned to be greater than 50% by 2020. To meet this target and achieve a flow rate of 650 MLD, the Zhengzhou New Area Wastewater Treatment Plant is tasked to feature state-of-the-art processes and facilities to reduce the impact of domestic sewage on the water quality of the Huaihe River Basin.
Solution: The plant has had Xylem’s Wedeco Duron UV systems installed, 4 banks in series. Today, this plant releases even 680 MLD of water, better than the national standard. This is offloaded into the Xiaoqing River embankment, which flows further into the Jialu River and the Huaihe River.
PLAINFIELD, USA, 2014Challenge: When the site needed to double their permitted capacity, they faced the dilemma of fitting a new UV system into the existing hydraulic profile, expanding its capacity and leaving space for future expansions.
Solution: The engineer chose a low profile, high performance Wedeco Duron system due to its ability to function over a range of water elevations and fit into the existing hydraulic profile. With only 36 lamps the system is capable of disinfecting a peak flow rate of 43 MLD, while requiring minimal operator attention due to its many operational features. The top part requires less space than the previous UV disinfection system hence freeing up space for future expansions.

Wedeco iDuronThe Wedeco iDuron is redefining the way India is treating its wastewater. This modular open channel wastewater UV disinfection system effectively inactivates 99.99% of pathogens without harmful by-products.
UV light is a safe, a non-chemical method of disinfection. It eliminates the need for chlorination processes and the danger of storing and transporting these harmful substances. With UV disinfection there is no deterioration in water quality, and contamination of water supplies and instances of water borne diseases are greatly reduced.
DNA and RNA absorb light in the UVC range emitted by UV lamps. The microorganisms are inactivated within seconds and rendered unable to reproduce or infect.

UV-B
Ultraviolet light, UV, is a type of energy found in the electromagnetic spectrum, between x-rays and visible light. Although we cannot see UV light or rays, we are exposed to them every time we step out into the sun. UV disinfection systems use special lamps that emit UV light of a particular wavelength that have the ability, to disrupt the DNA of microorganisms. These UV light waves are also referred to as the Germicidal Spectrum or Germicidal Frequency. The frequency used in killing micro-organisms is 254 nanometers (nm).

Benefits of UV Disinfection Over Chlorination
CHLORINATIONUV DISINFECTION
Affects taste and odor, change in water chemistry
Produces harmful by-products (carcinogenic)
Requires specific environment, safety, and health procedures as it is a hazardous and toxic chemical
Corrosive
Long contact time (min. 30 min required)
Large footprint, deep excavations
Low efficiency on protozoa
Performance influenced by pH levels and temperature
No effect on taste or odor; no change in water chemistry
No formation of harmful by-products
Low environment, safety, and health risks
Non corrosive
Short contact time (< 5 sec) , which requires smaller civil structures
Small footprint (10% of chlorine), low excavations
High efficiency on protozoa
Performance independent of pH levels and temperature

Why choose iDuron?
Reduce Capital ExpensesiDuron is based on patented Ecoray lamp and ballast technology. Its 600 W lamp reduces the number of lamps required and has an easy-to-handle length of 1.4 meters.
Construction and installation costs can be reduced thanks to the 45 degree lamp inclination, allowing for lower channel depths and smaller footprint. Eliminate up to 99.99% of MicroorganismsUV disinfection has been proven against a wide range of bacteria, viruses and parasites.
It eliminates the need for chemicals such as chlorine that add harmful substances to the water, reduce the reuse options of water and damage the environment. Reduce Energy ConsumptionThe sensor-controlled OptiDose system monitors operating conditions in real time. Its proven control logic gives the optimal required UV dose that you need, neither more nor less.
With the Ecoray lamp and ballast technology, you can be assured of proportionally high UVC output, also in dimmed mode, thereby conserving energy. Increase Operation Time iDuron’s robust design makes your operation and maintenance simple to ensure uninterrupted disinfection process.
Easy access to ballast cards and out-of-water electrical modules for operational stability.
Replace in-channel lamps quickly without removing the module out of the channel and clean quartz sleeves automatically with a chemical-free, electrical driven wiper system. Assure Compliance to Strict Disinfection Requirements iDuron systems have been tested by international third party validations for wastewater and water reuse applications such as the:
• US EPA UV Disinfection Guidance Manual (UVGDM)• The International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA)• National Water Research Institute (NWRI)
