Podcast Perfection!

The clever students of 3/4T have been working on a podcast during some computer ses-sions they have had. They created a podcast based on Banjo Paterson's life and poet-ry because it supported their classwork in English. The students researched Banjo's life and wrote an introduction to the podcast. They rehearsed and recorded a poem. Finally they chose some introductory music (which used a Creative Commons licence). Their Poetry Podcast is now online! You can find it on the Millthorpe School website. Enjoy! Ms Jordan

Term 1 means it’s Markets time – to be held on Sunday the 8th of April- how exciting!

This is the schools major fundraiser and a huge event in the Millthorpe calendar, we are even listed as an event in the F.O.OD. Week program! Our markets are run by a volunteer parent committee to raise funds for the school, through the P&C committee, for the benefit of our kids.

Recently these benefits have included:

*A brand new sports shed *Smart board upgrades and maintenance *band scholarships *solar hot water for hand washing *educational resources *recorders *excursion subsidies *iPads *home readers *sound field systems *ongoing L3 financial support *sporting team uniforms *air conditioning *classroom furnishings

WITHOUT OUR PARENT HELPERS THE MARKETS CAN’T HAPPEN!

Here are some of the ways you can help:

*baking for the cake stall *displaying advertising material *volunteering for 2 hours on the day either at the BBQs, canteen, cake stall, hot dog stall, jumping castles or marshalling in the morning and afternoon.

These are not hard jobs and are fun!

We only ask for 2 hours of your time, twice a year!

Committing to this time, twice a year raises more money for our school and our kid’s education than anything else! It's fun, social and makes such a huge difference to our school!

So come join us for an enjoyable day, be a part of the buzz and make a difference!

Please email me on [email protected] with 3 time slot preferences. I will confirm your time and where you are helping closer to market day.

You can alternatively complete the tear off slip below and return it to the school office.

Remember all parent volunteers must be a financial member of the P&C for insurance purposes so please make sure you have paid your 50c per adult to the school office.

Many thanks,

Lisa Fowler

Urgent Need for More Volunteer Ethics Teachers

Dear Parents, Grandparents and Carers,

Ethics classes are available at Millthorpe Public School as an option for children who don’t attend

Special Religious Education (SRE/scripture). Ethics classes support children in developing skills in

ethical reasoning, critical thinking, collaborative enquiry and how to support their arguments with

evidence. The lesson materials have been approved by the Department of Education.

Our Kindergarten Ethics teacher is moving on in five weeks, and if we do not find another volunteer

then these children will not be able to attend Ethics classes until we find a replacement. So we are

urgently calling upon any parents, grandparents or carers of children who do Ethics to join our team

in this very rewarding volunteer role.

Volunteering is a great way to engage with the school. Volunteer ethics teachers do not need a

background in teaching or ethics, just a willingness to learn how to deliver classes. They must

complete a two-day workshop and other online training and accreditation requirements. The

approved lesson materials are provided. Ethics teachers must commit to conduct at least one 30 min

class each week at the school during school terms for at least one year.

For more information about Primary Ethics, the curriculum or to volunteer as an ethics teacher,

please visit www.primaryethics.com.au where you can complete an on-line application or contact

Darrin Yates, volunteer ethics coordinator on 0411 789 062 or [email protected]
