ONLINE AUDITIONS FOR A CHRISTMAS CAROL McCook Community College Theatre and Southwest Nebraska Com-munity Theatre Association (SWNCTA) announce online auditions for a virtual presentation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Virtual auditions will be done online Sept. 2-4, with virtual callbacks Septem-ber 5 and 6 via Google Meet. To sign up for auditions, complete the online form located on the auditions page on the MCC Theatre page: http://www.mpcc.edu/mcctheatre/auditions. Actors will be contacted via email with your audition link. Those auditioning will need access to an internet, and a device with a camera and microphone. College students and community members are encouraged to audition. The production may employ cross-gender casting for many roles as there will be doubling. Families are encouraged to participate as well. There will be live-streaming performances on November 20, 21 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. “Virtual productions have swept the coun-try as theatre companies are exploring new territory to reach their audiences safely,” said MCC Theater Instructor Mark Hardiman, who will direct the production.
INTERACTIVE VIRTUAL TRAINING Congressman Adrian Smith (R-NE) announced his office will host an interactive virtual training for constituents interested in volunteering to record veterans’ stories for the Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress. Nebraskans of all ages are encouraged to attend to learn how to interview veterans in their communities. The training ses-sion will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CST. The Veterans History Project was created to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans. Volunteers receive training on how to properly record oral history and how to collect memoirs, photos, and other documents. For more information, please contact Smith’s Grand Island office at 308-384-3900.
TEST NEBRASKA HAVE NOT MISPLACED RESULTS Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services officials issued the following statement regarding a rumor that recently surfaced on social media, including Reddit, claiming that test results from Test Ne-braska had been misplaced. “We want to reassure people that the Test Nebraska lab has not lost or misplaced test results. “Test Ne-braska, however, did have a technical issue where one of the contrac-tor’s data systems stopped pushing results to another system, causing test results from Wednesday, August 19 through Sunday, August 23 to not be reported to the person who was tested or into DHHS’ data col-lection system. “Because a test was not associated with a number of people’s profiles due to this technical issue, the call center directed people to get retested. The standard language in the email triggered by the call center in response to these inquiries improperly referenced lost test results. “Test results from Wednesday to the present have now been delivered. We sincerely apologize for the delay. We take very seriously the responsibility to ensure proper and timely data report-ing. We have safeguards in place to address issues if and when they arise and will continue to take corrective action as soon as they are discovered.”

They won't last long in the Associated Press Top 25,
but six Big Ten teams whose fall season has been
postponed to 2021 landed in the preseason poll re-
leased on Monday. Clemson got the nod at No. 1,
but Ohio State which narrowly lost to the Tigers in
the College Football Playoff semifinal last sea-
son came in at No. 2 with 21 first-place votes. Other
Big Ten teams included Penn State (No. 7), Wisconsin
(No. 12), Michigan (No. 16), Minnesota (No. 19) and
Iowa (No. 24). Nine teams in the preseason Top 25
will not play football this fall, as the Big Ten and Pac
