Whole School Assembly: We had a huge Whole School Assembly last week, with performances from our Circus Troupe, Kindergarten students performing “Wombat Stew” and our very own School Band. 5C and 6Y students unveiled the ‘Picasso Cow’ and presented their journal of learning around the unit of work. The audience was very appreciative and also

amazed at the creative efforts of the Stage 3 students. Congratulations also to our Beez Neez

award winners and to the Touch Football Team who were presented with the Cactus Moran Cup.

Circus On Tour: Mrs Herron and her Circus Troupe presented their Circus skills to Frank Partridge VC Public School and Nambucca Heads P.S. The feedback from the schools was very positive with every student enjoying the display. Each of the schools are now considering developing their own circus troupe due to nagging from students in the audience. Mrs Herron is now keen to explore more activities to add to their list of talents.

E Gats EXPO Day: The E Gats Expo Day will again be held at Macksville PS this Thursday. Year 5–8 students, parents and supervising teachers will be at our school for this Regional event. We are very proud of our students who have continued to challenge themselves throughout the E Gats program with ongoing support from

Lyndall Lynch and the Learning Centre. If you are able to donate some home baked goodies for catering at the EXPO Day, it would be very much appreciated. This is why they keep coming back, because MPS hospitality is so wonderful.

Parent Surveys: Thankyou to all the parents and carers who responded to our parent surveys. We have had a fabulous response with some valuable feedback that will assist us in our forward planning. There was a great roll-up from parents at our parent forum today, and there is another opportunity to share your opinions and suggestions at an after-school parent forum at 5:30 this afternoon. Please come along and join in the discussion.

NAPLAN: The National Assessments for Year 3 and Year 5 were administered earlier this year in May. The NAPLAN Student Reports outlining your child’s achievements in Reading, Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar, Writing and Numeracy have arrived at school. We invite you to drop into the School Office and collect your child’s report this week. If you are unable to collect the report, please write a note providing permission for your child to deliver the report home. The NAPLAN results provide valuable information on the Literacy and Numeracy skills of your child and also allows teachers to better assess each student’s performance. If you have difficulty in understanding your child’s report, or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school on 6568 1800 and we will provide time to discuss these issues with you.

GOLD DAY: To celebrate the responsible and co operative behaviour of our Gold students, we will be holding an “Art Attack” day tomorrow Wednesday, 19th September. Lots and lots of resources have been collected for students to produce some creative pieces of art on the day. These fabulous creations will then be displayed in the afternoon. The day will be a Mufti Day and it would be great to see our children dressed in an artistic fashion. They could dress as a famous artist or just as a very creative and colourful character. ~ Debbie Grenenger, Relieving Principal

Out And About At Macksville Public School

Proud to be a part of the Family School

If you can read this, could you please put me back on my horse?

Women On The Move Movie Day

This Thursday, 20th September, Women on the Move will be going to the movies! We will meet at McDonalds Nambucca at 9.45am. The day will be PAYG.

All women of all ages are invited to join in the variety of ‘Women On The Move’ activities each week. For further details or for help with transport, please contact the Nambucca Valley Neighbourhood Centre on 6568-2305.

Clothing Pool Donations

Thank you so much to those families who have donated old uniforms to the clothing pool. We still need a lot more. If you find that as spring heats up your children start to grow faster than the lawn, we would love to take those ’too small’ uniforms off your hands. All donations are greatly appreciated. Please send them in to the LCC.

We still have a number of new items, such as polo shirts in stock, but no longer have any hats. Please feel free to come in and see what we have!

Uniform Shop

As of next Term (Term 4) our uniform shop will only be open on Thursday afternoons from 2.30-3.30pm.

Homework Heroes

Please remember that ‘Homework Heroes’ will NOT be on this Wednesday. Most classes have decided not to send out homework as it’s the last week of term.

We will be back in action every Wednesday afternoon during Term 4 in the LCC 3.15-4pm. Please go to the LCC for a permission slip to come along and join us.

Also, please remember that your high school children are welcome to come along to Homework Heroes too. Here they can have access to computers in an environment where it’s easy to concentrate.

Macksville Public School Step Back In Time

We’ve had a wonderful response to our history section and it’s lovely to see so many people interested in the Macksville Public School of the past. One of the things that kick-started our whole historical researching happened during our Athletics Carnival. One of the children asked where our sporting houses got their names from and we discovered that there were many people (old and young) who didn’t know. So next term we are going to introduce you to the namesakes of our sporting houses.

For a little taste, their names are Mr Charlie Reid Sergeant Edward Maher Dr David Pope Mr John Smith

All these people were prominent community members who had children at the school and donated both their time and money to the school in various ways.

An interesting fact came up when talking to one of Mr Charlie Reid’s daughters (who still lives in the district) and that was, that each of the men made up their own war cry for each house. She remembers many funny phone calls made by her father to the other men checking on how good each others war cry was! The wonderful part is that they are still the very same war cries that we use today. So there is a little piece of Macksville Public School history that we are still living today!

Our very own riding superstar!

Gabbie from 6Y had the most amazing weekend. She was competing in the Zone 9 Pony Club Jamboree which saw over 100 kids coming from as far afield as North Dorrigo and Willawarren. Riders and horses camped at the Macksville Showground for the weekend with most kids rising at 5 or 6am each day to tend to their horses. Gabbie and her horse Gypsy won just about everything they went in! They came first in all six sporting events and won the D Grade Show Jumping (which is a hotly contested event!). They came fifth in pairs & sixth in the team of four. All of this meant that Gabbie took out the overall Junior Champion for the weekend and was the under 17 champion team of five, high point score. Gabbie tells us that sadly this was Gypsy’s last event as she is heading into retirement but told us that “Gypsy and I had a GREAT weekend!!!” We’re thrilled that they were able to make Gypsy’s last event such a huge success. Well done Gabbie, we are so proud of you and all you have achieved! If you have a child who is thriving in an extra curricular activity, let us know about it. You can email pictures and stories to Kirstin on: [email protected]
