Principal’s Notes:

Lent, Holy Week, and Easter Worship Schedule

• We are now in the season of Lent. Lent is a somber time in the church year, a time of

penance and remembrance. It is also a time in which we have other worship

opportunities. These midweek worship services are a great way for us to take a few

moments during this crazy time of year, and to be able to shift our focus towards

Calvary, where we see the Son of God, the Savior of the world sacrificed for you and

me. Our weekend services during Lent will be focused on the Red-Letter Challenge

while our midweek services will be a little more intentional by going through the

traditional Lent Scripture texts.

Dear Kindergarten - Grade 8 Parents/Students, Achievement testing, Stanford Achievement Test 10, is being administered this week, April 8 - 12 (Grades 6-8 end on April 11). Testing occurs primarily in the mornings. It is important that students arrive on time (they cannot be admitted to class once the testing has begun) and that students not be removed for appointments, etc. As always, sufficient sleep and a good breakfast are important. Please refrain from over emphasizing the testing with your child/ren which results in unnecessary stress for them. Just assure them that you have confidence in them and encourage them. In our Lord's service, Mr. Molin Principal

• Mrs. Barbara Koenig has announced that after 12 years of faithful service as our Art Teacher, she will not return in 2019-20. We thank her for her wonderful service to ALS.

Consequently, we will accept resumes for this part-time faculty position.

• SPELLINGS BEES will be Tuesday, April 16 in Assembly Room 2. 9:00 am, Grades 5-8 and 1:00 pm for Grades 1-4.

• THANKS TO THOSE STUDENTS WHO BROUGHT CANDY for the Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 20, 10:00 am. You will be allowed a free dress day on Thursday, April 25. IT’S NOT TOO LATE!!! The Red Letter Challenge Small Groups

Small Group Update for the Red Letter Challenge As you have hopefully heard by now, Atonement is about to embark on a journey through the Red Letter Challenge (RLC). The RLC is a forty day journey through the red lettered parts of the Bible a.k.a. the words of Jesus. This journey will take us through the themes of Being, Forgiving, Serving, Giving, and Going. This is a great opportunity for us to grow together and strengthen our faith in Jesus along with our relationships with others. Part of the RLC is the book, and the other part is joining with others in small groups. There are going to be six opportunities to join together and to enrich our experience and journey through the RLC.

The six opportunities are: -Sunday Mornings: During the Bible Study hour (9:15-10:15am) in Doug Molin's religion classroom -Monday Morning: 10:30 am (In Doug Molin's religion classroom) -Monday Evening: 7 pm at the Schutt home (2913 Jessica St. Metairie) -Tuesday Evening: 7 pm at the Molin home (3316 Tartan Dr. Metairie) Wednesday Morning: 10:30 am (Church Library) -Thursday Morning: 7:15 am (Church Library

Here we are beginning our journey through the Red Letter Challenge (RLC) together. The first full week of the RLC is all about BEING! Being with God, being in His Word, being in His presence. One great way to BE with God is through prayer. Prayer is a great gift from God where He gives us the opportunity to come converse with Him. Through prayer, we have the ability to talk to God, to unload all of our care and concerns onto Him, to bring all of our fears and struggles, and to ask Him what He is calling us to do. Prayer helps to strengthen our relationship with God! As we will continue together on this journey through the RLC we will see that there are plenty of things that God is calling us to do, plenty of actions we can take to grow in our faith and to share God with others. However, before we can truly attempt any of the doings, we have to spend time in the being, spend time with God, hear and see where He is leading us. We get do this in our personal faith walks with God, and also in our communal walk as a church, a body of Christ. If you have any questions, or if you would like some more information, please do not hesitate to contact me!

The Grades 3-8 Track Meet is this Friday, April 12, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm @ Jefferson Playground. Running Events practice has changed to today, Wednesday, April 10 after school until 5:00 pm at ALS. It is no longer tomorrow Thursday. Students in Grades 3-8 competing in the track meet will wear their PE uniforms to school on Friday, April 12. Since Grades 3-4 students do not have PE uniforms, if possible, we are asking them to wear maroon shorts and a grey shirt which will closely match the PE uniform. Students in Grades 3-8 competing in the track meet will eat in the gym from 11:45 am – 12:15 pm and then depart for Jefferson Playground. If you have questions, please contact Mr. LeBlanc at [email protected] and please remember that ALS doesn’t provide transportation. We recommend carpooling. Dear All, The following is an excerpt of a message I have received from Ms. Kari Williamson, Athletic Director of First Lutheran School, Knoxville, TN, concerning the 2020 Lutheran Regional Basketball Tournament: "First Lutheran School in Knoxville, Tennessee, is happy to host the 2020 Regional Lutheran Tournament! I confirmed dates with my principal. It will be Thursday, February 13- Saturday, February 15th. Look for more information in October!" I already look forward to the 2020 tournament. Travel dates will be Wednesday, February 12 and Sunday, February 16. Save these dates and go Crusaders! In our Lord's service, Mr. Molin Principal/Athletic Director
