October Sunday School Session to Explore ‘Dark Nights of the Soul’

An Opportunity ... A Vision ... A Group

As we continue our 40 Days of Prayer together, our shared prayer experiences with God are helping us to discern

God’s call in and through Second-Ponce. This calling is a critical part of our shared visioning process, which begins this month. ATL will host three Congregational Conversations to assist in developing a shared vision for Second-Ponce. We come to these Conversations with no proposed vision statements or initiatives; rather, our process is to use the Congregational Conversations to develop the input to the shared vision. These three Congregational Conversations are: • SPdL Past – Sunday, September 28, at 12:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center gym • SPdL Present – Sunday, October 26, at 12:30 p.m. in the FLC gym • SPdL Future – Sunday, November 23, at 12:30 p.m. in the FLC gym Make-up sessions for those not able to attend any of the primary sessions will be the following Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. No preparation on your part is required. We’ll have a box lunch and then a structured process to get your feedback at each of the sessions. And plan to be done by 2 p.m. or so. … The intent of these sessions is to celebrate our past, assess our present, and build a bold future – together. Look for tickets for the SPdL Past Conversation on Sunday, September 14. We want all SPdL members and regular attendees to participate if at all possible. We’ll have childcare available with lunch provided for children. For adults and youth, tickets are needed so that we can ensure sufficient seating in the FLC gym and that lunches are available. Lunch costs $5 per person with no more than $20 per family. The logistics for these Congregational Conversations are important so that you can plan to actively participate. More important, however, will be the outcome. By early next year, we’ll have a draft vision for 2015–2020 for the church to consider. And then we’ll begin work on specific plans and initiatives to implement the vision. Plan now to participate in all three Congregational Conversations!

Take part in a unique experience as Associate Pastor Dr. Charles Qualls teaches “The Dark Nights of the Soul” lessons he wrote for the “Uniform” series this fall. Adult Sunday School classes are invited to meet together as Charles leads us through this weighty topic for four Sundays in October at 10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The “Dark Nights” are a universal part of the Christian experience. In these four sessions, we will explore the biblical writings of Habbakuk, Job and the Psalms. While the topic might not strike us as uplifting, you may find more encouragement in these lessons than you think!

Evening Edition Women’s Bible Study will focus on the book of Revelation starting Tuesday, September 9. We will use Beth Moore’s video lecture series titled “Here and Now ... There and Then” as the basis for our discussions. Beth presents many points of view, allowing women to decide for themselves when the interpretation varies among scholars. She teaches that God is as specific about what He does reveal as God is about what He does not reveal. Evening Edition meets in the Family Life Center Fireside Room on Tuesday nights. Women of all ages are invited to join us for bring-your-own-snack fellowship at 6 p.m., followed by the study from 6:30–8 p.m. Questions? Please contact Carole Johnson at 404.816.3097.
