Week 4 – 7th November 2018 Sharing Our News
Twelve of our Stage 2 students graduated in style at the
University of Newcastle last night as part of the Children's
University initiative. These fabulous students completed their
additional hours in learning to receive their awards. It was a
wonderful experience for all of our students who’s awards were
presented by the Vice Chancellor at the Great Hall. Well done to
Mrs Tan and Mrs Barry for your organisation and enthusiasm in
leading the program.
Tomorrow will see another 44 students graduate but this time it
will be our new Kindergarten students for 2019. The Kindergarten
Transition program has enlightened our new students into the life
of "big school" and given our teachers and opportunity to work
with the children and build strong relationships prior to attending
school. A huge thanks to our parents for your support of the
program and to our teachers who have really embraced and
enjoyed the opportunity to work with our students.
It has been wonderful to have Pauline Mitchell (Aboriginal
Education Officer) involved with our school and she has already
made some wonderful connections with our students, teachers,
families and the community. Pauline's role is to work with the
school to foster positive relationships throughout the whole
school community, build the Aboriginal culture within our school
and support all students (including Aboriginal students) in
achieving improved learning outcomes. We look forward to
working with Pauline in the future.
The wellbeing of every student is important to all of the staff at
King Street Public School. Every student has a right to a safe
learning environment where they have the opportunity to succeed
and thrive in all aspects of their schooling. Please reinforce with
your child the importance of telling a teacher if they ever feel
down or unsupported within the school. It is also just important as
parents, to contact your class teacher or the executive team if
you have any questions re your child's schooling. It is important
that we are all united in making a difference for each and every
child throughout King Street Public School.

This is a reminder for all families that some of our

We ask that you please do not send foods or

Two of our students Grace

We would like to wish them all the best.
Leadership Election Process – 2019 School
Leaders
It is with great pride and excitement that we have
our nominated school leaders for 2019. The
process, in which they were elected, has long been
used at KSPS and has always produced quality
candidates.
It starts with a Stage 3 peer nomination; anyone is
allowed to be nominated by another student in Stage
3. Students have the choice whether they would like
to accept or decline. Once we have this list (which is
usually 15-30 students of each gender) students
from Stage 3 then do a formal ballot to select the top
six boys and girls candidates.
Students who do not make the top 12 candidates
list, still have the opportunity to run for House
Captain and/or become a 009 Leader at KSPS.
These 12 students will complete a nomination form
and then begin the formal Leadership Election
Process. Below is a timeline of events for the
Leadership Election Process.
Timeline:
Thursday 15th November, leadership
speeches commencing at 9:30am.
Nominated leaders will be informed of the
outcome of the voting on Monday 19th
November at 2:30pm in a private meeting.
Tuesday 20th November at the morning
assembly the successful Captains Elect for
2019 will be announced, all parents and
carers welcome.
Tuesday 27th November, House Captains
give short speech and voting takes place in
House Meetings.
Thursday 29th November, House Captains
will be announced at the Morning Assembly.
Presentation Day – Friday 14th December,
School Captains and House Captains are
officially recognised through formal process.
Snake Tails
Thursday was a very exciting day for our infants
students with a special visit from some interesting
animals from ‘Snake Tails’
Some students built up the courage to hold and pat
some of these amazing creatures while others like to
keep their distance while still admiring and learning
about them.

Big congratulations to our first ever Children’s University graduates. These
students signed up at the start of 2018 doing many hours of extra learning to
receive their awards from the Vice Chancellor.
It was a wonderful experience for all of our students. Well done to Mrs Tan and
