Why we do Simran
• Purpose of our Life is to Meet God
• The Fire of Maya burns us in Rago and engulfs us in Tamo
• This Desire for things other than God keeps us separate from God.
• By tracking our thoughts we have an inventory of our desires. We recognize where we place our Love.
• Each breath is accountable and we must re-teach the mind to attach every breath to God.
• There are countless other benefits- life becomes easy.
Our mind is a reflection of
God.
Thoughts act like Ripples
in a pool…..
Breath/ Pavan
Pavan is woven in to all of the creation like a
string holding the pearls of a necklace. It
gives us life and we can only experience
Maya by the swas we are given.
We need thoughts but we also need to
stabilize the mind.
There is only one breath; all are made of the same clay; the light within all is the same.96
The Lord placed the soul to the cave of the
body, and blew the breath of life into the
musical instrument of the body. 922
Pavan, Maya, Thoughts
• Thoughts are the sukum form of Maya
• The imbalance of the Pavan at the Ida, Pingla, and Sukhmana; also the Sun and Moon causes thought ripples/ waves.
• This breath moves up and down the body
• Where ever there is Pavan there is Maya •
– This body is the source of all Maya; 1065
Bhavsagar
In the body we can find the Bhavsagar
Turbulent ocean-
Thoughts
Liberation begins by being free from our selves of thoughts.
We can only do that by closing the 9 doors

God has pulled me out of the ocean of
fire, and quenched my burning thirst. 814
O dear beloved mind, my friend, the world is
an ocean of poison. 79
God is Suk Sagar
.This path of Liv is the path of Saints, now is the time to begin the journey.

I am worthless, O my
Beloved, ocean of peace. In the Saints' Congregation, my mind is awakened
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad,
they enshrine Love for the True one.
• Merging the mind in to the breath is key. It
can not be anchored unless you have the
Gurshabad.
• Bhai Gurdas Ji tells us Gurshabad and
Gurmantra are the same.
• Gurshabad rides on the Pavan- by
learning to anchor the mind we will induce
calm waters to cross the first Bhavsagar.
My boat is wobbly and unsteady; it is
filled with sins. The wind is rising - what
if it tips over? 878
Without the Guru's Shabad,
the mind finds no place of
rest
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Gurmukh remains dead while yet alive, and
swims across the Bhavsagar. ||2||
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the Lord is found; without the Shabad, people wander, deceived by doubt. ||1|
Mechanics (2)
This is for beginners to help anchor the mind. We are working to Dhune mae Dhayn
• Step 1- – When you say Wahe- hold the breath at the
naval.
• Step 2- – When you Guru focus on it leaving the mouth in
to the Gagan.
YOU HAVE TO JAP THE GURMANTRA !
By Japing on the Lord, O mortal
being, through the Word of His Bani; you
shall be blessed with eternal life. In this way,
shall you cross over the
Bhavsagar. ||2|| 92
Mechanics SasGras(2) Step 1-
Say Wahe hold breath at the Nabi
Step 2-
Say Guru at the mouth to Gagan
Wahe
Guru
The breath is seated in the home of the
navel; the Gurmukh searches, and finds the essence of reality.
When there was no support of the navel lotus, then in which home did the breath reside? 945
When there was no support of the lotus of the navel, the breath remained in its own home, attuned to the Lord's Love. 945
Why wander around, and why go searching, when the Guru's Shabad reveals Him to us?
Homework
• DO SIMRAN! • Work on remembering God with every breath. • Call me if you don’t understand how to do SasGras • Categorize all your thoughts by percentages as you did
last week. • Before you speak think in it needs to be said. • Before you think, think if it needs to be thought. Make
sure your breath is balanced all day. • Anytime you see someone see them and try to treat
them as you would speak or act towards God. • Remember the Reth of the Mind.
