Today’s discussion will be on valuesbut before that, let us do a quick testimonies session and a recap on the concept of the Kingdom

OUR DISPOSITION TOWARDS THE KINGDOM OF GOD

Mat 6:32-33 AMP

(32) For the Gentiles (heathen) wish for and crave and diligently seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows well that you need them all.

(33) But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all i. HIS KINGDOM &

ii. HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS

and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.


•Unbelievers are diligent in seeking the things humans need: Food, Shelter, Security etc.

•Believers must NOT strive after such but RATHER—SEEK, exert themselves after the SOURCE of all those things i.e. Kingdom of GOD

• They must SEEK, aim at and strive after FIRST His kingdom and His righteousness

To SEEK [zeteo] is defined as

to worship (God)

to seek [in order to find out] by thinking, meditating, reasoning, to enquire into

aim at, strive after

To require, demand

to crave, demand something from someone

•Do we actively seek the KINGDOM OF GOD and HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS (i.e. the King of the Kingdom’s interests) daily in ALL we do?

VALUES: WHY STUDY THEM?

SORT OUT ROOTS, LEAVES WILL BE HEALED

• Values are the foundations/roots of policies, standards, laws, regulations etc.

• Our lives are likened to trees

(Isa 11:1, Jer 17:7-8) VALUES

Isa 11:1 AMP AND THERE shall come forth …a Branch out of his roots shall grow and bear fruit.

Jer 17:7-8 AMP

(7) [Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.

(8) For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.

Dan 4:13-17 AMP

(13) I saw in the visions of my head [as I lay] on my bed, and behold, a watcher, a holy one, came down from heaven.

(14) He cried aloud [with might] and said, Cut down the tree and cut off its branches; shake off its leaves and scatter its fruit. Let the living creatures flee from under it and the fowls from its branches.

(15) Nevertheless leave the stump of its ROOTS in the earth, bound with a band of iron and bronze, in the midst of the tender grass of the field. Let him be wet with the dew of the heavens, and let him share the lot of the living creatures in the grass of the earth.

(17) This sentence is by the decree of the [heavenly] watchers and the decision is by the word of the holy ones, to the intent that the living may know that the Most High [God] rules the kingdom of mankind and gives it to whomever He will and sets over it the humblest and lowliest of men. •Your life in the Kingdom is likened to a TREE

•Roots [your VALUES] grant stability against life’s tempests

• Foundations/Roots/Values of your life feed on rivers

• The quality of the river determines the quality of tree, branches, sap, leaves, fruit

•Heal roots and tree is healed

1. What are you planted in? Be honest with yourself

2. Do you drink of the Holy Ghost daily—so that out of your bellies flow rivers daily?

3. What are your roots? What value system do you subscribe to?

Your values guide you and shape your priorities and reactions

HEGEMONY: public institutions and social structures (including economic stratification) of a society, are created by the ruling class. The same mould the values, morality, ambitions, fantasies, fears, and desires

This is why to change a nation, you change the influencers


WHAT ARE VALUES?

VALUES - THEORY

“Values are the social principals, goals, and standards that cultural members believe have intrinsic worth. They define what the members of a culture care about most and are revealed by their priorities.” (Hatch, 2006)

“Values are also beliefs and are defined as ‘Beliefs about what is a desirable or a “good” (e.g. free speech) and what is an undesirable or a bad (e.g., dishonesty).’” (Krech, Crutchfield and Ballachey as cited in French & Bell, 1999).

Values can be good or bad. They are concerned with what it is good to desire. (Stacey, 2007).


VALUES - THEORY

“Values influence every aspect of our lives: our moral judgments, our responses to others, our commitments to personal and organization goals. Values set the parameters for the hundreds of decisions we make every day.” (Kouzes & Posner, 2002).

Values guide our behavior.

Values empower our decision making.

Values motivate us.

Values keep us focused.

(Kouzes & Posner, 2002; Holman, Devane, & Cady, 2007; Stacey, 2007)


DEFINING VALUES

• Values are guiding principles that determine individual morality and conduct.

• A collection of guiding principles; what an individual considers to be morally right and desirable in life, especially regarding personal conduct.

DEFINING VALUES

•Values define what is of worth, what is beneficial, and what is harmful

•What is the relationship b/n worth and worship

•Worth-ship = Worship

•Do you find it difficult to pay tithe?


• You have been given as bonus at work a cheque for US$1,000,000.00 to do whatever you like with it.

• What would you do with it?• Share with the class what you would do with it.

• WHAT YOU SPEND THE MONEY ON HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU VALUE IN LIFE

• Luk 12:34 AMP For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

• The location of your money, wealth etc. is the location of your heart

• Out of your heart flows the issues of your life


•What things did you do spend your time on during the past week?

• In every 24 hours, what occupies the most of YOUR time physically and in your thought life?

•WHAT YOU DO WITH YOUR TIME HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH WHAT YOU VALUE


IMMATURITY

MATURITY

• Clear values

• Life of purpose

• Meaning and direction

HYPOCRITE: One who subscribes to one set of values, and

does another. E.g. a believer who cannot stand up for

CHRIST-ian values; A person who subscribes to INTEGRITY but

LIES habitually.

IMMATURITY: One who has not identified his values

CORE VALUES OF THE KINGDOM

CORE VALUES - A small set of timeless guiding principles

•Only a few values can be truly core

• To identify the core values, determine the values that are central and passionately held

•Values must stand the test of time, they do not change with the market, company’s change markets to remain true to core values.

•Psa 89:14 AMP Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; mercy and loving-kindness and truth go before Your face.

•God’s GOVERNMENT i.e. KINGDOM is founded upon these 2 core values


VISION - LRF

An army of Kingdom Leaders Restoring Families, Neighbourhoods, Communities, Cities, Nations and Continents with God.


MISSION - LRF

To raise an army of Leaders who are an embodiment of the word of God with spiritual steel backbones, who will RESTOREtheir Families, Neighborhoods, Communities, Cities, Nations and literally Continents to God thus laying foundations for many generations.

These values are NEEDED for the realization of the VISION


KINGDOM VALUES VERSUS WORLD VALUES

• Too many in the army have a civilian mentality

• To many so called DISCIPLes are un-DISCIPLined

• DISCIPLINE is a basic to DISCIPLSHIP & requires Lordship-Submission relationship

• Democracy has re-DISCIPLed the globe via hegemon

• Too many take their definitions and point of reference from the world e.g. Hollywood, Hegemon


THE VALUE SYSTEM OF KINGDOM CITIZENSJer 9:23-24 AMP

(23) Thus says the Lord: Let not the wise and skillful person glory and boast in his wisdom and skill; let not the mighty and powerful person glory and boast in his strength and power; let not the person who is rich [in physical gratification and earthly wealth] glory and boast in his [temporal satisfactions and earthly] riches;

(24) But let him who glories glory in this: that he understands and knows Me [personally and practically, directly discerning and recognizing My character], that I am the Lord, Who practices loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth, for in these things I delight, says the Lord. [I Cor. 1:31; II Cor. 10:17.]


IntelligencePower Riches

Understanding&KnowingGOD


• Intelligence/Wisdom, Power and wealth/riches are good and needful to promote kingdom ends BUT we do not glory or boast in these. We boast in knowing and understanding GOD—the King of the Kingdom. It is the King who owns/possesses ALL Intelligence/Wisdom, Power and wealth/riches. He sets down one and sets up another


2Co 10:17-18 AMP

(17) However, let him who boasts and glories boast and glory in the Lord. [Jer. 9:24.]

(18) For [it is] not [the man] who praises and commends himself who is approved and accepted, but [it is the person] whom the Lord accredits and commends.

ARE VALUES TAUGHT OR ARE WE BORN WITH THEM?

HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS IS A CORE VALUE

Mat 6:33 AMP But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.

The fact that HE says SEEK means you were not born with it. It is a prize, a treasure to be sought after


• Mat 13:44-46 AMP

• (44) The kingdom of heaven is like something precious buried in a field, which a man found and hid again; then in his joy he goes and SELLS ALL HE HAS and buys that field.

• (45) Again the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a dealer in search of fine and precious pearls,

• (46) Who, on finding a single pearl of great price, went and SOLD ALL HE HAD and bought it.


Are values taught or are we born with them?

Pro 22:6 AMP Train up a child in the way he should go [and in keeping with his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart from it. [Eph. 6:4; II Tim. 3:15.]

Rom 12:2 AMP Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude…


• If they were born with them, children would need no training from parents or guardians
