Homework:
All Year 9 and 10 students have independent homework tasks that support their learning. These tasks could be one of the following:
1. Reading reflection To reinforce your child’s reading and comprehension skills, they will be working towards achieving a set reading goal for the term. This goal is based on the number of pages they read. Of course, the amount of words varies on each page, so your child will take this into account when they set their goal during the first week of each term. Their progress is recorded using a reflection sheet that has some smaller activities used to apply comprehension skills. These goals will be returned at the end of each week. Each of the smaller activities should not take more than ten minutes.
Term 1 2021 Year 9/10 English
2. Vocabulary Studies Your child has been given a vocabulary journal to help them learn new concepts in all of their Secondary subjects. During lessons, your child may be given a specific vocabulary word to be entered into the journal. If they have not had the time to complete this in class, they may be asked to complete entries at home. These entries should not take more than five minutes for each entry.
3. Learning preparation. At times, your child will be asked to investigate a text or resource outside of class. This may require them to use a computer for research, or read a text from the class. It may also include writing, especially if there is drafting to be done for publishing some writing. None of these activities should take more than 45 minutes for Year 9, and 60 minutes for Year 10.
