COMMUNITY MEMORANDUM

TO: FWFN Membership FROM: Damien Lee, Governance Coordinator DATE: April 9, 2015 RE: FWFN Citizenship Code-Draft for Community Comment Cc: Chief & Council

It is my pleasure to inform you that the Fort William First Nation Governance Committee has just released a draft version of a new Fort William First Nation Citizenship Code. You can download a copy of the draft here: http://fwfn.com/government/governance/

The draft Citizenship Code is the culmination of years of work. Our Governance Committee members have met nearly twice a month for the past three years to consider the issue of citizenship (and Band membership) from many, many angles. Though far from complete, this draft can be thought of us putting our best foot forward. Where we go from here will depend on the feedback we receive from our community in the coming year.

I would like to thank the Governance Committee for its dedication, hard work and willingness to have difficult conversations. I am proud of how we have carried ourselves in this process.

If you have any comments or questions on the Code, please feel free to stop by my office to chat.
