Christ Is Risen! Indeed He Is Risen!

СВІТЛИЙ ПРАЗНИК ПАСХИ

"Христос воскрес із мертвих, смертю смерть подолав, і тим, що в гробах, життя дарував" (Тропар Пасхи) З усіх великих празників нашого церковного року найбільш давній, урочистий і радісний - це Світлий Празник Христового Воскресіння. Він, як каже ірмос 8-oї пісні пасхального канона утрені: “Цар і Господь, празників празник і торжество торжеств”. Св. Отці Церкви в особливий спосіб підкреслюють значення і велич цього празника. “Пасха в нас - каже св. Григорій Богослов у своїм пасхальнім слові - це празників празник і торжество торжеств, яке настільки перевищує всі інші торжества, не тільки людські, але і Христові, що в Йoro честь відбуваються, наскільки сонце перевищує звізди”. А св. Іван Золотоустий у своїй проповіді на Пасху так звеличує Христове Воскресіння: “Де твоє, смерте, жало? Де твоя, аде, перемога? Воскрес Христос і ти провалився. Воскрес Христос і впали демони. Воскрес Христос і радіють ангели. Воскрес Христос і життя панує. Воскрес Христос і нема ні одного мерця в гробі, бо Христос воскрес із мертвих і став первістком померлих”.

Тож у світлому й радісному дні Христового Bоскpeciння св. Церква взиває небо й землю до святої Божої paдoсти: “Хай небеса достойно веселяться, хай радіє земля, хай празнує увесь світ видимий і невидимий, бо Христос устав, радість вічна”( Тропар 1-ої пісні канона).

Щоб могти краще зрозуміти велич, значення і дух празника Пасхи, погляньмо на його історію, його богослуження і значення для нас.

The Glorious Feast of the Resurrection

“Christ is risen from the dead, by death He conquered death; and to those in the graves He granted life” (Troparion of the Resurrection) Of all the great feasts in the Ecclesiastical Year the most ancient, celebrated and joyous is the resplendent feast of the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. This festival, according to the Irmos of the eighth Ode of the Paschal canon of Matins of the Resurrection is: “The King and Lord, the Feast of feasts, and Triumphs of triumphs.”

The holy Fathers of the Church, in a special way, stress the significance and majesty of this feast. “The Pasch (Resurrection) for us,” says St. Gregory the Theologian in his Easter sermon, “is the feast of feasts, which surpasses all the other, not only civil, but also Christian feasts, celebrated in honor of our Lord, as the sun surpasses the stars.” St. John Chrysostom in his sermon on the Resurrection extols this feast in these words: “Where, O Death, is your sting? Where, O Hades, is your victory? Christ is risen and you have fallen. Christ is risen and the demons have been cast down. Christ is risen and the angels rejoice. Christ is risen and life reigns. Christ is risen and the tomb is emptied of the dead, for Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

Thus, during the glorious and joyous day of the Resurrection (Easter) the Church calls upon heaven and earth to unite in holy and divine rejoicing: “Let, therefore, the heavens worthily rejoice, and the earth be glad, the whole creation visible and invisible celebrate, for Christ is risen, Eternal Joy. (Troparion of the first Ode in the Matins service of the Resurrection)

A Special Invitation to All Men of Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral

This is an invitation to all Practical Catholic men who are 18 years of age or older to join the Knights of Columbus in the formation of a new council here at Saint Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral The Knights of Columbus have scheduled a formation meeting on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the school gym. The Knights will explain the working of a

council in a parish and answer any questions. Immediately following the questions and answers session the Knights of Columbus will have First Degree presentation for any new members.

Confessions are heard on Sundays during each Liturgy or by appointment.

Baptisms should be arranged through a priest at least one month prior to the date of baptism. Parents and sponsors must attend instruction prior to the baptism of their child.

Marriage: Couples planning to marry are requested to make their arrangements early, but no less than six (6) months in advance of the proposed date. Pre-marital conferences must be arranged six (6) months prior to the ceremony. At least one of the couple, or their parents should be registered participating members of St. Nicholas Cathedral for eligibility to be married in the cathedral.

Sick & Homebound: If you or a family member are confined to home and are unable to attend Liturgy either temporarily or on a continuing basis, and wish to receive communion, please notify the parish office.

Hospital Stay: If you or a family member are admitted to a hospital for any reason and wish to have a priest come to visit, please notify the parish office. Recent federal privacy laws do not allow hospitals to notify the parish if you are admitted. It is the responsibility of the patient or family to notify the parish office.

Хрещення: Слід усталити дату з священником не менш як за місяць до запланованого дня хрестин. Батьки і хресні мають виконати необхідне приготування, про яке довідаються в священика. Шлюб: Наречені мають вписатися в книгу на вінчання заздалегідь, але не менш як за 6 місяців до церемонії. За шість місяців наречені мають відбути підготовчі бесіди із священиком. Принаймні один з наречених, або їх батьки мають бути зареєстрованими практикуючими парафіянами катедри, щоби вінчання могло відбутися саме в катедрі св. Миколая. Перебування в лікарні: Якщо Ви, або хтось з Вашоі родини, з будь яких причин, є на лікуванні в лікарні й бажає щоб священик його відвідав просимо повідомити про це парафіяльну канцелярію. Федеральний уряд законом про втримання таємниці (privacy law) , не дозволяє лікарній адміністрації давати знати парафії. Це є відповідальністю паціента або його родини.
