Dear ReadersWhen I said a drop of rain lastweek I had no idea it was going tolast a full week! As many of you willknow it is quite unusual here to seemore than a couple of days of rainand clouds, so to get it for a wholeweek was not on the cards. Forthose unfortunate holiday makersand beach lovers the CostaBlanca was not a "Hot Spot" butmore of a "Wash Out". There arealways some benefits to the badweather and that is again in thefavour of the bar owners and shopowners as getting inside when theclouds open is normally the firstplace you will see. The hundredsof bars here get even more packedout, as people get settled in for theday to enjoy the company of oth-ers, together with live music andlive sports on TV.For me a walk in the rain with mydog under the grey clouds was awelcome change and a little bit offun. Dodging the puddles and get-ting muddy is a rare event for us liv-ing here. I believe the worst is overnow and although the weatherforecast has showers predicted upuntil Thursday, the most of us willsee plenty of sunshine with tem-peratures reaching the high 20's.October has really crept up on meand has arrived almost withoutwarning except with the weatherbeing a tale tale sign. It is nowexactly 12 weeks to ChristmasEve so now it is a great time to startmaking the list and do a little shop-ping.
A little purchase there and there willsoften the blow. There are somegreat gift ideas around the shops. My suggestion is a trip to theindoor market in Benidorm whereyou will find many great gift ideasand loads of stocking fillers.Fiestas are also here with us againas Altea has just had their wettestMoors and Christian’s event seenin years and now to be followedthis next weekend with theBenidorm Moors and Christians.Read inside pages for the full cal-endar for times and the full sched-ule. With the famous BenidormFiestas in November there isalways so much to read eachweek here in your only local week-ly newspaper.
The Premier League has seen a
mix of results and now we can startto see our team’s hopes of makinga good start being rather grimunless of course you are a City orChelsea fan! I'm sure there areplenty of upsets and disasters tofollow in the coming weeks makingthe crucial Christmas run in moreand more interesting. Please tell us about your favouritesports venue and where to watchthe premiership football especiallyon Saturdays. Here in Spain youwill find many bars showing all ofthe games as well as the 3pm kickoffs via the wide range of WorldSports Channels available. It isgreat to share your findings withother football fans who want to findtheir teams match being televised.E mail or text me your comments on 0034 673 652 340 [email protected]
It was a great week for Europe win-ing the Ryder Cup. So for manygolf fans a week of relaxing withthe telly on. Keeping dry was anideal solution to pass the time. Fans of F1 will have yet anotherGrand Prix to watch this weekendbut with strange viewing times asthe race is live from Japan with a8am start. So you can enjoy anearly breakfast in front of the telly. EL CISNE CHARITY FAIRWith the weather being a rare threat to any out-
side events in the Costa Blanca this last week-
end. It was a different story, at El Cisne Charity
Fair. I was pleased to see the sun breaking
through around mid-morning after having seen
the dark grey clouds hanging over the coast
since day break.
Many stall holders and the organisers of the
Charity Fair had to pack up their goods and
props to avoid damage, not knowing if the
event would actually get underway. The smiles
were soon to be gleaming and bright as the sun
before midday was just in time for the arrival of
the Mayor Augustin Navvaro and the British
Consulate Mr Paul Rodwell. The event organ-
ised by The Royal British Legion was supported
by many local businesses and charities who
turned up to display themselves with the aim of
raising money for the many worthwhile chari-
ties.
The Mayor addressed the public to welcome
everyone and to offer thanks to the organisers,
Mr Paul Rodwell (British Consulate) also
extended his gratitude to Pamela Dawson-
Tasker (RBL) for the hard work and organisa-
tion of the event as well as thanking all of the
very worthy charities and supporters who came
to set up their stalls to raise money. Pamela
went on to finish the speeches on the behalf of
the team from the Royal British Legion saying
how proud she was of the people who had such
a difficult task keeping going during the heavy
down pours during the morning whilst setting
up.
FROM FRONT PAGEThe new record was made on Sunday 28th October at Levis
Showboat Entertainment Venue in Benidorm. Local charity
group headed by Tad Dawson, the very well known local busi-
ness man from the famous "Yorkshire Pride Pub Chain," who
has in recent years joined forces with the owner of the Levis
Showboat Mr Wayne Levi, to present a spectacular fund raising
event in favour of the very worthwhile cause for the local charity
"Children of EMAUS".
The event was organised specifically for the purpose of raising
money for the Relleu children’s home. Tad has worked hard over
the many years together with Anne and Pam, who are the two
people behind the day to day organisation of the fund raising
and the allocation of the funds.
Anne and Pam make sure that every single penny goes directly
to the children's home and determine the priorities of the
allocation of the funds raised. This work is extremely
difficult dealing with all of the issues that the home
is faced with on a regular basis. The serious situ-
ation includes the problems of not having
money for paying the utility bills and even to
provide the children with the most basic items
of food, nappies and other day to day essen-
tials.
Anne and Pam are the presidents of the
EMAUS charity and have made continuous
efforts throughout the years to raise money for
this heartbreaking local charity, but of course
they rely solely on charity events and donations
from local businesses and residents.
Levi's Showboat has now been the venue for an
amazing fund raising afternoon of spectacular entertain-
ment for the last two years.
An amazing record total of 11,500€ was raised (an increase of
just over 1,000€ on last year that was also a record year)..
Tad told me "It really was worth the hard work and organising
because not only was it great fun for all of the people who came
but a record of 11,170€ was raised that increased by 300€ when
I told Anne and Pam the total they personally donated a further
330€".
did a magnificent job of attracting some
of the best local entertainers to perform;
big names from the areas many enter-
tainment venues who gave up their
Sunday afternoon to perform. Meatloaf,
Take That, Adele, Girls Aloud, Stand &
Deliver, comedian Gary George, Miss
Stella Artois and of course, Levi´s
Dream girls.
Tad was helped on the day by Katie a
very well known "Prop" from the area
and Paul owner of Foleys Bar in the
Rincon. Selling the raffle tickets is
always a major task as getting around to
see all of the guests is very time con-
suming and without their
help impossible for just
one man!
Many people
came along
for the day
enjoying a
S u n d a y
lunch in the famous "Mary Rose"
restaurant, it was an event for the
whole family with something for
everyone.
All of the prizes were donated and
there were so many happy winners and
every ticket available was sold. Donations
and prizes came in from local businesses, Ex
Pats, Food 4, Europe Foods, The Buying Group,
Benidorm Palace, The Wooky Hollow, The Shamrock Bar, The
Black Chicken Bar, Yorkshire Pride Pubs, Levi's Show boat and
many more.
Personal donations were also received ranging from 100€ -
1000€. A few names to mention with thanks are to Paul Kelly
from the UK Malcolm Green, Ronnie (Buying Group) Alison
(Black Chicken) and both Wayne Levi and Tad Dawson.
This event is just one of many that are organised each year by
Tad and his helpers along with many other events for many dif-
ferent charities being supported here in the Costa Blanca. The
ex pat community and local business owners participate in reg-
ular fund raising efforts. This is a true sign that the Brits here in
Spain make a massive difference to the much needed local fund
raising.
SO A MASSIVE BIG THANK YOU FROM
TAD, ANNE AND PAM & FROM ALL OF THE SUPPORTERS
OF EMAUS CHILDREN'S HOME
TO EVERYONE WHO CAME ALONG AND DONATED.

A SUSPECTED drug trafficker from Walsall who had been on
the run for over six years was arrested last Friday (September
26). Armed officers swooped on him last night as he was play-
ing Texas Hold’em poker at Saffy’s sports bar in the port area of
Calpe at 7pm Spanish time. He was wanted in connection with
a conspiracy to import cocaine and was apprehended on a
European Arrest Warrant.
Robert Knight, aged 53, was tracked down in a joint operation
involving the Spanish National Police, the National Crime
Agency and West Midlands
Police, who had been seeking
Knight following the seizure of six
kilos of cocaine at Heathrow
Airport back in April 2008. Five
other men were arrested at the
time and later jailed for their roles
in the crime.
Knight, who committed his alleged
offences in 2008, is now in
police custody and extradi-
tion proceedings are now
underway to bring him back
to the UK.
Operation Captura, which
is a multi-agency campaign
between Crimestoppers,
the National Crime Agency
and the Spanish Police.
The NCA and
Crimestoppers, the inde-
pendent UK crime-fighting
charity, have been on the
hunt for Britain’s most
wanted.
Details of the ‘unlucky thir-
teen’ wanted individuals
thought to be evading cap-
ture in Spain were released
last November under the
latest appeal of Operation
Captura.
The successful multi-
agency campaign identifies
serious criminals on the run
wanted by UK law enforce-
ment agencies for crimes committed in the UK. Since Operation
Captura launched in October 2006, 62 criminals have been
arrested, with many now behind bars.
Crimestoppers and the NCA work closely with the Foreign &
Commonwealth Office in Madrid and with British and Spanish
law enforcement agencies. The campaign highlights appeals for
information on criminals who have European Arrest Warrants
(EAWs) issued against them. Information given to
Crimestoppers can help locate these criminals so that arrests
can be carried out by the Spanish police.
Lord Ashcroft, KCMG PC, Founder and Chair of Crimestoppers,
said: Robert Knight has been at large for six years and I am
delighted that the collaborative work of the agencies involved in
Operation Captura has once again brought success.
“Despite our success so far, there are still a number of danger-
ous criminals who see Spain as a safe haven to hide from their
past, but with the support of the Spanish and UK public, we can
hunt them out and bring them to justice.”
Hank Cole, Head of International Operations for the National
Crime Agency, said: “The NCA and its partners have the capa-
bility to pursue fugitives relentlessly. Spain is not a safe haven.
62 fugitives have been caught since Captura was launched,
and many more linked to other operations.
“The exceptional level of collaboration and intelligence sharing
with the Spanish authorities has been vital to many of these
arrests. The most important thing though is the power of this
campaign to harness the eyes and ears of the public, both here
and in Spain.”
For those people calling from Spain there is a spe-
cial freephone Spanish telephone number
900 555 111
This will be answered in the UK by Crimestoppers’
call agents and a translation service is available
upon request.
People can also pass on information anonymously
via the Crimestoppers number
0800 555 111
or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.

AqUAlAndIA SeASOn endSSeptember 30 Aqualandia ends its season of
2014, for the best ever year in the history and
they will continue next year 2015 to celebrate
their 30th anniversary.
The 2014 campaign has been the most
outstanding due to the the highest
toboggan-capsule in the world VERTI-
GO an amazing attraction that has
drawn in thousands of visitors to
Europe's largest water park and has
been a massive benefit to Benidorm's
tourist industry.
The other theme parks in the group
Terra Mitica and Mundomar will continue
with the seasonal activity with the most
horrifying fun year campaign set for
Halloween, starting from October 4th to
November 2nd.
TWIST & SPOUTTake a look at this impressive sea cyclone,
also called a waterspout, and swept the shore-
line of Benidorm on Wednesday morning.
Local residents were in shock to see the
unusual phenomenon that
looks similar a tornado and
for those who didn't know
any better it could have been
heading straight towards
them. The recent unstable
weather conditions in the
coastal areas along the
Costa Blanca have included
a record amount of rain fall
and enormous amounts of
thunder and lightning from
what have been described as
dramatic electrical storms to
the highest level known as
"Gota Fria" There have been
localised flooding and many
power failures to homes in
the region. The rains have hit
earlier than normal for the
end of the summer and have lasted now for a
week this has been the worst seen in the Cost
Blanca are for many years.

8 FOOD & DRINK
Our visit to Country Ribs in Benidorm was a family affair, not just
for us but because the first thing that I noticed was in this
American Diner most tables in the restaurant were full of families
enjoying the taste of Benidorm's most famous ribs, ranch style
chicken, juicy steaks and many more specialities on the menu.
The portion sizes being served around the tables were notice-
ably very large and therefore I decided a starter was not neces-
sary, I really didn't want to ruin my appetite for the main course.
There was lots of choice on the menu choice and offered some-
thing for everyone, there’s salads, burgers, steaks and even piz-
zas, for me it had to be one of the six great COMBOS, the vari-
ety is amazing but I had to make a decision so I chose ‘COUN-
TRY RHAPSODY’ this caught my eye as it included Hungarian
Goulash together with a mixture of Chicken, Lamb, Spare Ribs
and Pork Kebabs. The metal dish that the food is served in was
huge and was filled with the sides of potato wedges and chips
along with 4 different sauces or dips, I can honestly say the
amount of food in the COMBO was enough for 3 or 4 people.
For being meat lovers this combo was perfect, lamb chops were
cooked over the BBQ together with the Chicken breast, the
spare ribs and kebabs made the display of meat simply incredi-
ble not to mention the dish of Hungarian Goulash a strategically
positioned in the centre of the display.
My guests ordered a variety of other popular meals, grilled
chicken, cheese and bacon burger, chicken Caesar salad and
the star of the show was the full rack of baby back ribs with a
choice of 4 tasty sauces. The size of the rack of ribs simply
amazed me it took over the plate, served with the Jack Daniels
& Coke sticky BBQ sauce. The meat was falling off the bone and
was perfectly cooked complemented with the tangy original JD
& Coke sauce and a Smokey but sweet BBQ flavour.
Our bench style table had plenty of space to sit our group of five
adults plus the attachment of a high chair to the end of the table
that was clamped in place by the very friendly and helpful staff.
The restaurant was taken over by families so it was great to see
that there was no shortage of high chairs and the mums and
dads could enjoy their meals while the smaller ones were also
taking part at the table.
Country Ribs have been situated in Benidorm for many years
and have built up their reputation for the quality of food in a
relaxed American style diner, ideal for families with children as
well as enjoyed by adult groups out for their party night. Country
Ribs also have a beach front
restaurant in Albir that offers a
great outside ranch style ter-
race overlooking the prome-
nade with spectacular views
across the sea to Calpe.
The Weekly Buzz team had an
amazing night at Country Ribs
Benidorm and have awarded
them the Weekly Buzz GOLD
STAR RECOMMENDATION.
Go along and see for yourself,
take the amazing adventure of
dining at Country Ribs and tell
Pepe and his staff that you

The mini marina had a selection of remote con-
trol boats, there was a kiosk for the change as
well as sweets and cold drinks. The business
venture went well with the novelty idea of enter-
tainment for the family. Things moved on from
there to add baby bummer cars as well as go
karts for the adults that was a little surprising as
the olive trees made it a bit of a dangerous
track and before long the owners Carol and
Peter decided a Mini Golf Course would be a
much safer idea.
So then site was then transformed in 1979 to
become a mini golf course and has remained
there ever since, unfortunately Peter passed
away in 2000 after becoming ill and having
been diagnosed with cancer. Christian who
then came home from university to work with
his mother and has continued to run the family
business ever since. Times have changed how-
ever and Benidorm now has such a different
mix of people from all countries. What hasn't
changed is the 18 hole mini golf course that
takes around 45 minutes to an hour to com-
plete. This is an ideal pass time for the whole
family and its loads of fun. In recent years the
increase of Stag and Hen groups makes the
mini golf a great activity that the group can
enjoy and even have their very own competi-
tions and rules. Sometimes the groups make it
so that they must each taking a drink for each
time they put a hole. I suppose there could be
all sorts of crazy rules made up with penalties
and prizes for the best and worst putter!
Score sheets and pencils are provided for each
group to keep track of the player’s scores, there
are also loads of kiddie’s rides and arcade
games to enjoy. Mini Golf Benidorm is only a
couple of minutes’ walk from the beach and is
easily found on the main Avenida Medditerrano
opposite the Carrafour Express.

This festival commemorates the battles fought between Moors (or Muslims) and Christians during

The Old Town in Benidorm attracts a wide
range of visitors with a vibrant gay community
thriving during the evenings and offering fantas-
tic nightlife and entertainment, a never ending
choice of food and drink wirh a range of small
cafes, bars, restaurants and taparieas but also
the fantastic architecture and history which you
can’tmiss as you walk around the cobbled
streets.
The Look Out Point
The highlight of the Old Town for many is the
look out point, or as the Spanish call it "El
Castell". Extremly popular with tourists, many
forget about the church as they are so excited
about the view that lays in front of them, this
spectacular panoramic view lets you view the
whole resort, to your left you can see the new
town and on most days a fully packed beach
going on for miles. To your right you have the
poniente beach and the La Cala area, still busy
during the summer months but you get the feel-
ing of a more relaxed atmosphere.
For many brits on holiday this area of town is
not always reached but is always worth the
visit. At the front of the look out point there is a
small stairway which leads down closer to the
crashing waves a perfect spot for a selfie or a
romantic photo with you and your partner.
In the Summer months there is a wonderful
Craft Market held nightly at the look out point,
stalls set up at around 6pm and are there till
around midnight.

The 'San Jaime' Church
Also situated on the peak of Canfali hill. IThe
church was built between 1740 and 1780 after
the discovery of the Virgen of the Suffrage,
patron saint of Benidorm. The Church of San
Jaime, patron of the city, is of a neoclassical
style refined with a blue dome in the
Mediterranean style. Inside you´ll find a statue
of the Virgen del Sufragio, the well-loved patron
saint of Benidorm. The Virgin has her own small
chapel containing the little wood sculpture
which, as the story goes, was found on a boat
adrift on the high seas.

TOMATO NAMED
AFTER LA NUCIAA new cherry-plum tomato variety has been born in La
Nucia and it will bear the municipality's name. Arno
Kahne, an 80 years old German biologist who lives in La
Nucia, has created this unique new variety in which each
plant can produce up to 200 tomatoes.
This new variety is in its authenticity phase. In fact,
multinational Ludwichshafen BASF (from Germany) has
already received some seeds of this new tomato variety
so that, via scientific research, they can check its
authenticity.
Kahne has decided to name this new tomato variety La
Nucia. The reason: his experiments and plantations have
all been conducted in the small vegetable garden of the
Montebello residence in La Nucia, where he has lived
since March 2013. This German scientist is a fan of cul-
tivating vegetables.
Kahne was a biologist by profession who, in 1980, led a
development project by the Federal Republic of Germany
in Peru. The German biologist presented his work to the
Mayor of La Nucia, Bernabe Cano, and the Councillor for
Foreign Residents, Bart Gommans, along with the direc-
tor of the residence Monika Welchering.

18 TRAVEL AROUND Have you got a location that you
would like to hear about? Then why
don’t you tell us?! Email the team-
Valencia is the beating heart of its own
province with a population of over 800,000
by city limits and 1,500,000 by urban area
making it the third largest city in Spain and
15th largest in the EU.
A vibrant, modern city, it is one of the most
important cities of the Mediterranean
coastline, a prestigious commercial centre
and previously a Formula One venue.
History
The city of Valencia was founded by the
Romans in 137 BC as Valentia (meaning
strength or valour). The city boomed under
the rule of the Moors, becoming famous in
the trade of many essential and exotic
goods including paper, silk, leather and
ceramics.
The city remained an important strategic
and cultural location to be had as it has
been repeatedly captured and occupied by
Spanish and external forces for almost a
millennium.
Architecture & Attractions
Valencia retains much of its past in its
architecture having direct Roman, Arabic
and Gothic influences. Valencia Cathedral
was built between the 13th and 15th cen-
tury and is primarily Gothic in style but
contains elements of Baroque and
Romanesque architecture.
La Lonja de la Seda, the silk exchange
market, has been recognised by UNESCO
as a world heritage site. There are many
historical sites to be visited in Valencia, but
as a modern city there are also examples
of contemporary architecture; most
famously the Ciutat de las Arts I les
Ciênces (the city of Arts & Sciences), an
incredible entertainment and cultural com-
plex designed by Valencia's own Santiago
Calatrava.
Cuisine
Valencia is the birthplace of Paella, often
considered Spain's national dish by many
non-Spaniards, but considered in Spain as
a provincial dish of Valencia. The
Valencian Paella usually consists of meat
rather then seafood, however all varieties
can be found in the city.
Aside from paella, the city boasts numer-
ous restaurants catering for every single
taste and whim, but as expected seafood
in the city is particularly special.
Beaches
Valencia has more
then 100 km of
coastline, much of it
being home to fan-
tastically kept
beaches, distin-
guished as Blue Flag
beaches, for their
high standards.
Along with 2,600
hours of sun per
year, visitors flock to
the beaches of
Valencia every year
– both national and
international tourists
alike.
Transport
The city has its own international airport
along with fantastic connections by road
and rail to locations across Spain and the
rest of the continent.
With its temperate climate of mild winters
and warm summers, the huge variety of
things to be seen and done, all in all
Valencia makes for the perfect getaway
destination all year round.

Don't make a financial mistake
that other buyers often make! When a buyer agrees to buy a property in Spain, but fails to
realise the impact of exchange rates on the final purchase price.
For example, in the UK you would never agree to purchase a
property without knowing the total purchase price. So when buy-
ing a property priced in euros, that’s precisely what you’re doing
unless you already have enough euros in Spain to pay for it.
The exchange rate you receive when you transfer your pounds
into euros will have a direct impact on the end cost of your prop-
erty. You will either save or lose a lot of money throughout this
process that is often overlooked.
Buying property in Spain is normally done in stage payments,
you’ll pay a deposit then followed by the balance of the purchase
price later or in a series of stages. At some stage during this
process, you’ll need to convert your pounds to euros. The price
of currency fluctuates day by day and the live exchange rate you
can achieve in the morning will be different by the afternoon.
Over the course of days, weeks and months, exchange rates
fluctuate, sometimes drastically. What many property buyers
don’t realise is that they can actually fix an exchange rate today
for a purchase later. That means that they can effectively ‘fix’ the
purchase price of their Spanish property in pounds. So having
already agreed the price in euros you would then be able to
guarantee exactly how much in pounds the purchase price will
be.
Furthermore, there are ways and means to save thousands by
getting good exchange rates by buying currency from a special-
ist rather than a bank.
Generally, buyers find a property, get the currency exchange
rate on that day and base their decision to buy on that day’s cur-
rency exchange rate.
This means that unless you have fixed your rate which is possi-
ble if you consider this early enough during the purchasing
process the cost of your property will change by the day as well.
If you’re very lucky, on the day you actually send your money
overseas you may achieve your budgeted rate or the rate you
had in mind. But the risk os far to great by leaving the currency
purchase to the last minute.
This will leave you at the mercy of whatever the rate is on the
day you decide to buy.
We advise that as soon as you know that you’re going to pur-
chase a Spanish property would then be to check out a currency
exchange specialist like HIFX or Currencies Direct. These spe-
cialist companies can save you thousands of pounds simply by
offering you better exchange rates than your typical bank.
The specialist currency
exchange companies focus
specifically on money transfers
for property. Contact them

The British Ambassador, Simon Manley, visited Valencia this
week to reinforce commercial ties with the region and underline
the major economic contribution that British nationals make to
the area.
An estimated 1.6 billion euros was spent in Valencia last year by
the 2.2 million British tourists who visited the region. In addition,
more than 100,000 British nationals are registered as residents
on the padrón in the Valencia autonomous community, making
further valuable contributions to the regional economy.
In meetings with leaders of the Valencian government, including
President Alberto Fabra, the Ambassador raised the provision of
healthcare for tourists and the importance of all public hospitals
accepting the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) including
public hospitals that are privately managed, rather than trying to
bill visitors’ travel insurance.
He highlighted the plight of those who continued to be affected
by property problems in areas such as Lliber and Catral, and
urged the Valencia President and regional councillor for property
and environmental issues, Isabel Bonig, to work towards solu-
tions as soon as possible.
Mr Manley said “As this was my first visit to Valencia, I was keen
to emphasise the huge value that the British tourist and resident
population has for this area. The fact that British tourists con-
tributed 1.6 billion Euros to the Valencia economy in 2013 alone
illustrates this. I am also commit-
ted to working with the Valencian
government on the issues that
affect British nationals the most
and to ensure that help is provid-
ed when they need it.”
The Ambassador urged that ties
be strengthened with the British
population to encourage integra-
tion. Given the language barrier
faced by some in the British com-
munity, the Ambassador encour-
aged the Valencia president to
include as much information as
possible on official websites in
English.
Mr Manley also met police chiefs
and visited the 112 centre, which
last year received 150,000 emer-
gency calls in English, the major-
ity of which were from Alicante
province. Residents facing an
emergency should call 112. They
can also get updates on risks
such as forest fires by following

CAN I REAllY CHANgE mY
lIFE ANd lIvE IN SPAIN?Make your dreams come true and start
here to plan your life living in the Costa
Blanca Spain. It’s not about making
painful decisions, or having lots of money.
People who live their dreams here in the
Costa Blanca didn’t get what they wanted
by selling their soul, struggling against the
tide or gaining a windfall from the lottery!
In fact achieving the dream of buying
property or renting to live in Spain is pos-
sible for anyone. Young or old, single or
with a family there are many UK nationals
deciding to come to the life in the sun and
it is possible.
Like any big project, it takes a vision and
small steps that take you closer and clos-
er to living that dream. People who have
successfully made the move to Spain did-
n’t wake up one day and think, "I’m mov-
ing to Spain today!” It is something that
needs planning and that should start with
talking to the right people who can advise
you of the options available and where to
start.
For some the best way to start is renting
an apartment, it is a very in-expensive
way to budget for the start either in a town
or for a priemium you could be overlook-
ing the Mediterranean. Or perhaps ypur
budget can stretch to a villa with a beau-
tiful terrace to relax and enjoy the long
sunny days.
The costs for either are affordable for
most compared to the high property
prices in the UK and with so many other
benefits you can really start to see that
the life in the Costa Blanca Spain not only
offers a much healthier and environmen-
tally cleaner lifestyle but also is full of
other benefits and the cost of living over-
all is much less than other European
countries.
Start your search by looking on the
Internet for properties and then plan your
trip to view as many as you can. There
are so many web sites to gain informa-
tion, also local authorities (town hall) who
can give you information on the local
area, hospitals, schools and all of the
necessary aminaties.
The next step will be to visit the properties
and to discover the local area that you are
considering. There are so many areas
with a high population of British Ex-Pats
and this is often a benefit when you need
to make friends, gain experience and be
able share other people's as well as the
fact that until you can get to learn the lan-
guage being able to communicate is so
important.
Why not make this your first step in the
start of your plan to live here in the Costa
Blanca. Within a few months or even this
time next year you could be living here
telling your friend and family how it all
started.
You can start taking action with us by
reading the "Property Plus" in the
Weekly Buzz newspaper for property
ideas, get a feel formthe prices and
budgets required as well as reading the
editorial articles and advice. Also look
and search us online www.vista-
costablanca.com/property
The Internet has so many advantages let
your fingers do the work as it is all in a
click these days. You can also go to an
exhibition in the UK to get face to face
information and advice.
Book your next visit to Spain, and start
making the appointments to view your
chosen properties, use our recommend-
ed agents who speak English and know
the local areas so they can give you first
hand advice.
You have such a choice there really is
something for everyone when it comes to
the right size, location and price of a suit-
able property.
For now you can focus on changing your
life and see how great it will be to have
your new life in Spain. For retired people
it can be somewhere you can enjoy for
regular holidays and even use to gener-
ate a income from the rental, or some-
where to move to permanently and enjoy
a completely new lifestyle.
HOW YOU CAN FINANCE
A PROPERTY PURCHASE
IN SPAIN?There are a variety of
ways that you can pay for
a property in Spain. Paying
cash or you can fund a
property purchase through
a variety of loan options.
Which option you choose
is something you should
consider before you start
to look for a property.
Also, it is wise to consider
your finances and have
any mortgage you may
have applied for ready in
principle. You may consid-
er either a UK mortgage or
search for one from a
Spanish mortgage broker.
In Spain your options for
home loans, particularly as
a non-resident owner, are
unlikely to be as extensive
as those on offer if buying
in the UK. Spanish banks
have been hit harder by
the financial crisis of
recent years than banks in
the UK and as a result
lending conditions have
become more stringent,
although interest rates
remain low.
Mortgage offers change on
a daily basis, so it’s best
to contact an overseas
mortgage broker to deter-
mine what the current
mortgage offers are. You’ll
want to get an idea as to
how much cash your
deposit is needed in rela-
tion to the mortgage
amount. Spanish lenders
will typically ask for a
deposit of at least 40 per
cent from non-Spanish
nationals, some requiring
30 per cent are available
with tighter conditions.
When applying for your
mortgage you will need to
provide proof of income
and identity, and details of
your bank account and
credit cards. Make sure
you fully understand inter-
est rates, loan terms and
the typical criteria used to
determine loan-to- value
amounts.
If you decide to buy a
repossessed property,
either a new-build that a
developer defaulted on or
a property formerly owned
privately, you are likely to
be offered very attractive
finance options by the
bank selling it. Buying a
bank repossession will suit
some buyers, typically
investors, but be careful
you are fully aware of the
terms of the finance and
be certain you will be able
to keep up repayments.
Your monthly mortgage
repayment is another
important figure to consid-
er when looking at the cost
of maintaining your proper-
ty. Choosing the wrong
mortgage could lead to dif-
ficulties and it’s very
important not to stretch
yourself financially. If you’d
like to be put in touch with
a recommended overseas
mortgage broker then

"Best fish and chips in Spain"”Reviewed 28 September 2014We visited here whilst on holiday looking for a traditional fish
and chips and boy did we find it. The haddock was to die for
cooked in proper batter and white inside and the chips and
mushy peas were lovely. We have been a further 4 times since
with the same consistent quality of good food. The staff are
welcoming and friendly so if your looking for a proper fish and
chips away from England this is the place for you, trust us you
won't be disappointed.

“Nice cafe”Reviewed 6 September 2014Pleasant little cafe. Ideal for afternoon lunch snack. I tried a
salad which was fine. Just don't expect it to be restaurant quali-
ty. If you're passing by its worth popping in but I wouldn't go out
my way to find it again.
“Lovely salad!”Reviewed 2 September 2014We wanted something light and chose this cafe bar rather than
a restaurant. The food was good, lovely chicken salad, tasty

ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)
Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb this week, be it over work, money or love mat-
ters. Your mind is working on a totally new level so old routines, rules and regu-
lations will seem obsolete. Try to see a partner’s point of view in the partnership
stakes. It takes two.
TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)
The pace of life is on a steady rhythm and that’s fine for a short time, but you’ll
want to crank it up as the week progresses to allow your extensive drive and
enthusiasm room to breathe. You seem to be the sage of emotional problems in
your circle of friends.
GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)
Progress at work is possible if you crank up your confidence and allow the won-
derful ideas in your head to make it into the big wide world. Don’t take no for an
answer when you’re sure of what you want. Don’t know what you want? Work it
out, then have the meeting.
CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)
Opportunities in the career zone could come your way as long as you’re in the
right place at the right time this week. Mercury helps you communicate, so this is
no time to be all shy or to hide your talents. Stand there under the spotlight and
go after goals.
LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)
Financially, it’s the most casual conversations that could bring you the most
important conclusions this week. Keep an open mind. Group activities socially
look positive and fun filled, but its your own to one intimacies that bring the best
results. Is it hot in here?
VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)
Work matters hold plenty of potential as long as you’re willing to take the initiative
and do things your way, yes, even if specific individuals do whatever they can to
throw hurdles in your path. See it as a challenge and laugh it off. It’ll make them
nearly explode.
LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)
If you feel you’re getting stuck in a rut, you’ll crave fresh fields and pastures new,
but you’ll never get them in your sit and moan and expect others to get them for
you. Get off the couch and make your own destiny. If you don’t ask, then you
wont get. Go for it.
SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)
If practical issues present any difficulties this week, don’t plod on by yourself or
you’ll just get frustrated and angry. Swallow your pride and ask for the help of
someone who knows what they’re doing. Its not to say you’ve failed. You were
just out of your comfort zone.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)
The lunar high brings a warm wave of positive energy, which washes all over
you, so strike while the iron is hot if you want to get projects off the ground, dis-
cuss your financial situation with professionals, or make moves towards getting
your love life back on track.
CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)
You’re entering a fairly constructive period in a practical sense, and you’ll man-
age to turn your hand to almost anything, surprising yourself and impressing oth-
ers around you. Who knew? Suddenly you’re flavour of the month. Be selective
with your time and energy.
AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)
You’re finally seeing results for your hard work and dedication in the work zone.
There’s nothing you like more than being praised for a job well done as it makes
it feel it’s all been worth while. Factor in some time for love and fun though. No
man is an island remember.
PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)
Home and family are the most important things to you, so if either of those aren’t
doing as well as they could be, it’s obvious life as you know it wont run to plan.
Stand still and take stock. Its time to work out what direction you’re taking now,
and who you’re taking.

Caring For Your Baby’s TeethThe prevention of tooth decay starts when your child is still a
baby. How well you care for your baby’s teeth (or gums!) will
have a lasting effect.
Once your baby starts weaning it is best to encourage savoury
tastes rather than sweet. Keep away from sweet, fizzy drinks.
Water is best but if you do give your baby squash, NEVER give
it in a bottle. The teat of the bottle will be sugary and will lie
against the baby’s gums or ‘milk’ teeth. This is disastrous for
dental health. If fruit juice is given, it should be diluted with 10
parts water and be given in a non-valved free flowing cup. If chil-
dren are having chocolate or sweets it is better at the end of a
meal or the end of the day rather than nibbling throughout the
day.
Cleaning you toddler's teeth should be part of his daily routine
and should be made into a fun time rather than a chore. Teeth
should at least be cleaned first thing in the morning and last
thing before bed time. Sit your child on your knee facing a mirror
and clean his teeth from behind. Use a small, soft toothbrush
with rounded bristles and a smear of fluoride toothpaste. Brush
all surfaces in small circular movements. Do not brush side to
side as this may hurt and damage his gums. Concentrate on one
section of teeth at a time, not forgetting the backs.
Persuade, rather than force, your toddler to open his mouth, as
he needs to learn to like the idea of brushing. Give him lots of
praise and encouragement when he allows you to brush them.
Letting him choose his own toothbrush may also make it more
fun for him.
If he's reluctant to have them cleaned, let him see you brush
your teeth first. With an older toddler you can then let him
try to copy you. You need to be persistent. Gradually you can
give him more responsibility for the brushing as time goes on.
Supervise your child while he brushes his teeth until he is at
least seven years old.
When do you need to take your child to the
dentist and which dentist do you choose?Take your child to the dentist when he's about a year old.
Dentists can help to prevent, as well as cure teeth problems.
Don't wait until you see signs of tooth decay.
When you go to the dentist for your own appointment, take your
toddler with you. He'll then get used to the sights, sounds and
smells.
Don't assume that you don't need to take your toddler to the
dentist because his first teeth are going to fall out anyway. Most
first teeth have 10 years of hard work to do so need looking
after. Also, these milk teeth help keep the space open for sec-
ond permanent teeth to come through.
Choose your child’s dentist with care as you want his first
experiences to be good ones. A child who is frightened at an
early age by a bad dental experience with probably be put off
dentists for life! Choose a dental clinic with a warm, friendly, wel-
coming atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door. This will
immediately put your child at ease. The dentist should not only
be an excellent clinician but should be friendly, approachable
and used to caring for children in his dental practice.
EAR WAXAlthough ear wax can be a nuisance for some
people, it is very necessary for keeping the ear
canal healthy.
Ear wax, or cerumen which is the medical term,
traps dust and dirt particles that enter the ear
canal. It prevents the ear canal becoming dry
and itchy, helps to prevent infection and also repels water.
Under normal circumstances, the ear wax, along with all the accumulated debris, dries out and
eventually falls out of the ear.
Not everybody produces the same amount of ear wax and for some people the wax can build up
causing discomfort and/or a degree of hearing loss. There are several reasons for this including:
Narrowing of the ear canal, Production of dry wax (more common in older people), verproduc-
tion of wax as a result of blockage or damage within the ear
Many people attempt to remove ear wax using cotton buds but this only serves to make the situ-
ation worse! A little ear wax may come off on the end of the bud but the main bulk of the wax
plug is simply pushed further into the ear canal.
The skin of the canal is very sensitive and cotton buds can scratch and damage the skin caus-
ing subsequent infection. In addition to this people can rupture the ear drum whilst attempting to
remove wax in this way. Remember the old adage of the ENT surgeon:
‘Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear!’
There are many products available over the counter, such as drops or sprays for removing wax
but these can cause pain, irritation and eczema. It is far better to use ordinary olive oil which is
gentle, effective at softening ear wax, cheap and readily available in most kitchen cupboards!
In some cases it is all that is needed and the ear wax will come out after a couple of weeks of
warm olive oil 3 times a day. If not the wax will be softened enough to make removal by irriga-
tion (similar to syringing) or suction quick and easy.
In an ideal world we would never have to intervene and remove ear wax but unfortunately it is
sometimes the only option and your family and neighbours will be so grateful that your TV has
been turned back down to a normal volume!

Where have all the volunteers gone? Coming to the end of September and we havehad a very long hot summer till this last week!Yet throughout the summer the backbone ofour group has always been the volunteers.Without them we cannot do the good work thatsaves the lives of many Spanish dogs. Yet nowthey have just vanished, so where have theygone? Many people who live here don’t evenknow that Benidorm has a dog pound to try tohelp save the lives of the stray and abandoneddogs that would litter the streets. We need tolet you know that you can help. Volunteerscome and walk the dogs and they come frommany places, residents, tourists and peoplejust wanting to do something different and thatperson could be you and help us fill the hugegap that we have in helpers. Many of whom have been students here overthe summer filling in the jobs in your bars andrestaurants and getting the chance to learnEnglish. Now it can be your turn to give a littleback to this community. So what is BenidormDog Homing? Benidorm dog pound is just out-side this popular holiday resort.
A very short taxi ride from the main hotels andwe are always in need of volunteers to walkthe dogs in our care. SPAP Benidorm runs thepound to look after animals and they have apolicy to protect and not destroy animals. However the shelter provides extremely basicfacilities, food is donated from hotels, medicalcare is limited and it is difficult to fully look afterup to 300 or more animals.
Benidorm Dog Homing are the volunteers whowalk the dogs and give vital support. We needyou to spare a bit of your time to help socializethese dogs, take them for a walk and showthem that humans can give love too. It’s notjust about coming walking, let your fingers helpa dog find a home too! Because being a cyber-buddy is a very important jobtoo.
I often get asked what a cyber-buddy has to do and I reply‘Imagine this was your dog andyou had to search for a newhome, where would you try, what would you do and thenplease just give it a go and keepyour dog’s posts active onBenidorm Dog Homing andother sites a few times a week’That is the basic job descriptionbut what it means to the dogs is
a chance, hope, a future as without a cyber-buddy on their side it is harder for them to benoticed and their posts slip away deep into thepage and they become invisible, forgotten andNo Hope!
You can find out more about this vital supportyou can give from anywhere in the world byjoining our Facebook page ‘Benidorm DogHoming’ and looking through all our dogs whoare in need of a Buddy and a home. Just men-tion on the dogs post that you want to be theirbuddy and I will show you all the informationyou need and it only takes a few minutes ofyour time a few days a week. Your help doesmake a difference and at the happy endingtime when a new home is found for your dog,you get to celebrate too! Then the volunteerscan take over and with our many languageskills we can help get a dog passported and offon its travels to a new home. We do need helpand you can make a donation using PayPal [email protected] or contact us onFacebook to find out more about our dogs inneed! You can help with donations usingPayPal to [email protected] or contactus on Facebook to find out more about ourdogs in need! For me walking the dogs gaveme connections in this country and help that Inever knew I needed. SO being a volunteer isnot just about the dogs it’s about us humanstoo. So now it’s your turn to help, here are TheWI!

Cillian Murphy returns as Birmingham-based mobster Thomas Shelby in the second run of author
Steven Knight's period drama, which is set to reunite the Irish star with his Dark Knight Rises col-
league Tom Hardy. The first series was a huge success for the BBC, winning plaudits not only for its
plot and acting, but also for its amazing production design, which helped create an atmosphere of
threat and foreboding in the Midlands immediately after the First World War.

Whether you want to be a body-
building champion or you simply
want to keep fit, tone up, lose or
gain weight, it is likely you may
need some help and encourage-
ment from an expert.
There can be no better place to
get it than from Body’s Center
Gym Club in Altea, where pro-
fessional body builder Stefan
can work out a plan to suit your
ambitions. He will be there to
encourage you, put you through
the paces and he is also a pro-
fessional in nutrition.
Stefan, originally from
Marseilles in France, has been
running the gym club in Altea for
the past 3 years. He is assisted by his wife
Sabrina who herself is fit and toned.
Stefan knows what dedication it takes to radi-
cally change a body, having trained for 11
years to become the best champion in France.
In 1998, he won the European Championship
of the International Federation of Body
Building.
When he started, Stefan used to weigh only
53kg. To be a champion he had to increase
his weight by building pure muscle. He
intends to compete again next year in the La
Nucia Experience and 2 years after that, in the
Annual Classic in Madrid. Currently he
weighs 87kg but is working hard to develop
more muscle and increase his
weight to between 92 and 95 kg
in order to compete.
Stefan carefully looks after his
body by eating healthy food little
and often and of course by train-
ing and dedication. Being in
control all round, also helps him
to look much younger than his
years
The gym is open from 10 in the
morning through to 9.30 in the evening
Monday to Friday and from 10 am until 2 pm
on Saturdays. There is no fee to join and
there are various packages on offer, such as
bono spinning 25 euros per month, classes
package 30 euros per month, body fitness
package 35 euros per month and the full pack-
age 50 euros per month. Classes include
Spinning, Pilates, Zumba, Bodypump, Crossfit,
Bodytonic, and Boxing. Stefan speaks
French, Spanish and English very well.
For further information please call the gym on
966 880 600, look on facebook (gimnasio-
bodycenter) or pop in at the Centro
Commercial Altea Center, Part Cap Blanc on
the N332 above Mercadona.

Alan Pardew has vowed to fight on after Newcastle suffered
another defeat in their dismal start to the Premier League
campaign.
The Magpies lost 1-0 to Stoke at the Britannia Stadium on
Monday night after Peter Crouch headed home Victor
Moses’ cross in the 15th minute.
Jack Colback could have salvaged a point for the visitors
but put a sitter against the bar late on, as Newcastle lost to
remain second from bottom in their worst start to a Premier
League season for 11 years.
Novak Djokovic breezed into the second round of the China
Open with a 6-2 6-1 victory over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in
Beijing. The top seed needed little more than an hour to see
off the challenge of the Spaniard as he began his bid for
record fifth title at the event. Djokovic has never blost a
match at the China Open, his latest success improving his
record in it to a formidable 20-0.
The world No 1 will next face Vasek Pospisil, who defeated
Lukas Rosol 6-4 6-3 on Monday. Elsewhere in the opening
round, third seed Tomas Berdych also made it through with
ease as he recorded a 6-1 6-2 win over Feliciano Lopez.

FerrAri TArgeT WilliAmsFerrari Technical Director James Allison believes the team’s
improved performance in Singapore showed they are making
genuine progress with their car as they aim to overhaul Williams
in the standings.
The Scuderia’s 2014 season has increasing proved a tumul-
tuous one following the departures of the two men formerly at
the top of their faltering F1 operation, team boss Stefano
Domenicali and long-time President Luca di Montezemolo.
On the track the team have finished on the podium just twice all
year and remain without a race win for 28 GPs, a dearth of
results which keep them on course for their worst season since
1993. However, there were more positive signs at the last race
at Marina Bay after Ferrari qualified within 0.3s of Mercedes and
then finished right behind the Red Bulls with Fernando Alonso in
the race in fourth.
That result, combined with Kimi Raikkonen’s eighth place,
meant Ferrari took six points out of Williams in the battle for third
place in the Constructors’ Championship, the Grove outfit’s
advantage over their old rival now a slender nine And while
Allison acknowledges the stark differences between the slow
Singapore street track and the fast sweeps of Suzuka that await
the F14 T at the Japanese GP this weekend, the technical boss
feels progress has been made.points,

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is facing a spell on
the sidelines after suffering a fractured rib against West Ham last
Saturday.
The Spaniard was substituted in the 74th minute of the 2-1 home
victory and United say they will 'continue to monitor his progress
over the next few weeks'. The injury is the second suffered by the
£28m summer recruit from Athletic Bilbao, who was forced to sit
out three matches earlier in the season after suffering an ankle
injury in training.

sTrONger NeXT YeArTigers were the surprise package this season, reaching the
Challenge Cup final and going within one win of top spot in the
table before eventually finishing fourth.
Daryl Clark, who has been nominated for the Man of Steel and
young player of the year accolades, is among a number of key
men who played their final game for the club in last week’s play-
offs defeat by Warrington Wolves.
He has signed for Warrington, Craig Huby is en-route to
Huddersfield Giants, Marc Sneyd will join Hull and Weller
Hauraki is Salford-bound. Jamie Ellis has also turned down a
new deal and is set to sign for Huddersfield, but Clark feels
Tigers can build on the advances they have made this year.
“To finish like that (last week’s defeat) is pretty disappointing,” he
admitted. “It doesn’t take away from what a great season it’s
been, though. “They have made some great signings for next
season and I’m confident they will do well next season and in
future as well.”
Clark is also looking to up his game next term, but admitted it is
a wrench to leave his hometown club.
“I’ve had a great time,” he stated. “I’ve been here since I was 13
through the scholarship and academy sides so it has been a
pretty special few years “The highlight has got to be walking out
at Wembley in front of a pretty much the full Cas town. That was
a pretty special moment.”
As for his own game next year, Clark added: “I am hoping it will
go to another level, but I’ll just concentrate on getting my head
down and I’m sure I can do well.”

The Americans made it inter-
esting, for a few hours, but in
the end Europe’s lead was
simply too big. Sunday’s only
big surprise turned out to be a
rare display of dissent in the
U.S. ranks.
“The boys had to dig deep
today,” said Ian Poulter, who
went 0-1-2 for the week after a
meaningless halve in his late-
afternoon singles match with
Webb Simpson. “The
Americans were coming at us
strong. The board looked very
good for them for a long period
of time.”
The win is Europe’s eighth in
the last 10 Ryder Cups. It is a
run of dominance that contin-
ues to confound the
Americans, whose search for
answers this week included
the appointment of 65-year-
old Tom Watson and ended
with tension between him and
U.S. team leader Phil
Mickelson.
Sunday began with Europe
needing to win just four points
out of 12 to retain the Cup,
and despite a sluggish start, it
had little trouble. Pals Rory
McIlroy and Graeme
McDowell -- whose recent his-
tory inspired Phil Mickelson’s
“we don’t litigate against each
other” jibe early in the week --
won the day’s first two points
to make it 12-6, and Europe
rolled from there.
McIlroy went 8 under in pum-
meling Ricky Fowler 5 and 4.
McDowell escaped from a 3-
down hole to beat Jordan
Spieth 2 and 1 in the lead
match. For a while, it seemed,
the U.S. had a fighting chance.
Spieth, 21, built a 3-up lead on
McDowell. Hunter Mahan, in
the fourth match, went 4 up
over Europe’s best player,
Rose, through seven. When
Mickelson rolled in a 15-foot
birdie putt at the 5th, squaring
his match with Stephen
Gallacher, the U.S. was up in
four matches, Europe was
ahead in two, and two were
square.
Gleneagles was quiet. The
U.S. looked good.
And then Sunday went the
way of Saturday and Friday,
as the Euros once again
turned the scoreboards blue.
In so doing, they turned up the
volume on a gray, slightly
warmer day in the Scottish
countryside.
Rose birdied five straight
holes, bogeyed the 12th, and
birdied the par-4 13th from a
bush. He was conceded a
birdie at 18 after Mahan, right
of the green in two, sailed over
it with his pitch and couldn’t
save par. “I hit it in the one
spot you can’t hit it over there,”
said Mahan, who made seven
birdies but bogeyed two par-
5s. “It stinks. It was a tough
battle all day.”

David Haye declares intention to become world heavy-
weight champion once again
Former world heavyweight champion David Haye says he
will reclaim his title once again - it is only a matter of time.
Haye, 33, has not fought since he beat Dereck Chisora in
Manchester in July 2012 and his career has been in hiatus
for some time.
He is currently in negotiations to fight out of the USA and is
keen to make a long-awaited return after a string of injuries.
Haye told the press.
"The heavyweight division is a bit fragmented now. There are
a few paths I could go down depending on the route I want,
and that's being worked on at the moment.
"Believe it or not I will be the heavyweight champion again.
It's just which way I go and how long it takes.
"There's a bit of work to do yet but it's exciting times ahead."
Recent reports have suggested Haye has split with long-time
trainer Adam Booth and the 6ft 3in slugger refused to be
drawn on questions about their partnership.
Haye, who has held the WBA heavyweight title as well as
numerous cruiserweight belts, currenly has a record of 26
wins with 24 knockouts, and two defeats.

Chris Froome is confident the multiple
injuries he sustained during a testing
2014 season will not be a problem for
him next year.
The Team Sky rider’s campaign has
been dogged by physical complaints,
the worst of which were the fractured
wrist and hand he sustained in his
race-ending crashes at the Tour de
France.
Prior to that he was forced to miss
Tirreno-Adriatico in March due to a
persistent lower back problem, while
his hopes of victory at June’s
Criterium du Dauphine were snuffed
out by impact injuries sustained in a
heavy crash while in the lead of the race.
Froome was still playing catch-up at the Vuelta
a Espana, where he finished second overall,
but with that race safely completed and his sea-
son now over, he is adamant his injury prob-
lems are behind him. “It's fair to say it has been
a year of ups and downs,” he told national
press. “More than anything I’m just glad that,
after the setbacks at the Tour and the injuries
early season with my lower back, injuries with
my wrist, my hand, I’m all healed up now.
Froome, 29, is the first to admit that his season
has not gone to plan, but with victories at the
Tour of Oman and Tour de Romandie and a
second-place finish at the Vuelta added to his
palmares, he is content with the outcome in the
circumstances.
“It has been a tough year but I’m really happy
with how it has worked out,” he added. “Cycling
is so unpredictable and when you get every-
thing that works in your favour, you should take
that with open arms. But this year has been a
lot about learning how to deal with situations
where it doesn’t go quite right.”

Europe completed their mission in the
singles to win the 40th Ryder Cup 16½-
11½ against the United States at
Gleneagles, singles wins for Rory
McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Martin
Kaymer and a shot of a lifetime by Jamie
Donaldson ended all hope for the
Americans. Captain Paul McGinley's
side led 10-6 going into the final day and
reached the 14½ needed to win the Cup
outright when Welsh rookie Donaldson
beat Keegan Bradley 4&3.
