A bumper year for the British visitors during fiestasweek with most hotels full in the centre of Benidorm.Visitors for the British shows a further increase in atten-dance and also visitors have stayed longer with theaverage number of days being seven or more where inthe past the average stay was around four days. Theprices of the flights this year have yet risen again for thereturn leg of the journey reaching in excess of 300€ With airlines taking advantage of the key dates of travelthe emphasis for keeping the cost low is to book asearly as possible.

Fancy Dress Day, which always takes place the dayafter the official Benidorm fiesta ends saw an estimated30,000 people most of which were wearing fancy dress. The weather turned out to be a day of sunshine withoutany rain at all which was a surprise for most people asthe rest of the week was ghastly with rain falling mostdays.

What was than previous years was the fact that theevents and activities were spread along Calle Geronafrom what was the main hub of Brit day which was atthe cross roads with Andy's Bar, Tiki City, YorkshirePride and the Hotel Marina to now continue down toMorgans Tavern, The Western Saloon and as far as

The Flash Hotel. Police had cordoned off the streetfrom traffic on the Saturday the 8th being the first day offiestas. The street had outside bars and events organ-ised by the Ambassador Hotel Group. The party was setup to kick start the week long party. However what wesaw was empty bars and cafés due to the fact that thevisitors had not yet arrived in numbers for the firstweekend and in fact the week got busier during the fol-lowing week. Fancy dress day saw a total street closurefor Calle Gerona but also in addition this year CalleLepanto was also closed totraffic, considering theswarms of people walkingand filling the completestreet there would have beenno chance of getting any traf-fic through anyway! Peoplestarted congregating fromaround noon, the wonderfulcostumes came together tocreate a rainbow of colour asfar as the eye could see.The Western Saloon made agiant free paella, which was cookedin front of thecrowds attractingpeople to stayaround the area andnot go too far. Soinstead of everyoneheading to theSquare people werespread out, althoughthe entire area wasabsolutely rammedfrom the WesternSaloon all the way

down to Jumping Jacks. The bars along the whole of Calle Gerona were blastingout music and providing live entertainment. There was a

fantastic party atmosphere throughout the day and longinto the night.

The fancy dress costumes were incredible so manynew and original ideas with a lot of thought going intothem. This fancy dress party is the biggest in Europeand seems to get bigger and better each year.

From front page...for the winter sea-son, compared to last winter the monthon month figures are 10% less flights thatare scheduled. More and more peopleare having to dig deep to afford flightsthis winter to fly back to the UK to visittheir families and friends. Christmas timealways sees a hike in flight costs but thisyear the prices are in excess of 200€.

For some winter sun seekers disappoint-ment came when Thomas Cook can-celled all winter flights to Alicante for the2014 / 2015 season, the holiday makersthat had made bookings were told thatthey can either cancel or amend theirbookings. The cancelled holidays werefound to be available with other airlinesand tour operators at the same hotels butwith price increases in excess of £300.The cut back in flights and the hike inholiday prices in the Costa Blanca arepushing winter holiday makers to theCanary Islands, Turkey, Egypt and eventhe Caribbean are being offered with eyecatching prices. Other countries effectedby the cut backs in flights are Germanyand Norway. In total Alicante Airport haslost 13 direct links including flights toBlackpool, Exeter, and also with BritishAirways cancelling the London Heathrowservice. Ryan Air have cut almost half ofits operations from 44 to only 26 routesuntil April 2015.

Whilst we see the travel industry makingcuts in Spain, Easy Jet announce only

this week a massive increase in theirprofits from the last 12 months up to theend of September 2014 with an increaseof £103 million from the previous year of£478 million that has increased this yearto a staggering £581 million.

Much of Easy Jet profits have been gen-erated by adding new routes and theacquisition of additional slots at GatwickAirport. This winter Easy Jet has addedthree new routes from Scottish Airportsthat include routes to Morocco andPortugal carrying a total of about 34,000holiday makers this winter, the questionfor business owners who rely on wintertravellers coming to Benidorm and desti-nations around the Costa Blanca is whyhave we seen cuts in flights from AlicanteAirport whilst other winter holiday desti-nations see cheaper prices an increasein flights? Could it be that Spain is pricingit's self out of the market?

These guys are fast becomingBenidorm’s most popular act. Indeedthey are accumulating a fan basethroughout the Costa Blanca andbeyond, with a guaranteed full house atevery show outside of the town andhaveing already reached the point wherethey have declined work as far away asMadrid, France and the UK due to thecommitments already in the diary. That’squite an achievement considering theshow didn´t exist just 9 months ago.Derek Blevins (54) (who performs solo asDickie Ray), and David Young (27) onlymet in December 2013. Both had beenperforming solo shows around Benidormfor a few years. The Blues Brothers have possiblyinspired the most tribute acts throughoutthe world with the exceptionsof Elvis and Abba. It couldbe very easy to believe“if you´ve seen oneyou´ve seen themall”. Think again! This one is differ-ent...very different. The show is lovedby all ages fromvery young kids tograndparents. All the rules govern-ing a traditional BluesBrothers tribute havebeen thrown out. Derek toldus “I felt that The Blues Brothers showsthroughout the world have all becomevery similar. Most tribute shows arebased around years of hits recorded bytop artists. The Blues Brothers on theother hand is based around just twomovies. For that reason all the othersseem to be singing the same songs andperforming the same comedy routines. It´s like watching the same play, just per-formed by a different cast. I felt it neededsomething new. My idea was to capturethe essence of the much loved charac-ters Jake and Elwood Blues and applytheir “couldn´t care less” attitude to cre-ate a completely new show. Yes the oldfavourites such as Rawhide andEverybody Needs Somebody are stillthere, but there are always surprises, sometimes for us as well, as the audi-ence are encouraged to be part of theshow. Not just watch it. It´s not a show,it´s a party. ”Derek from Northern Ireland had beenperforming as a solo artist with a massiverepertoire of songs covering almost everygenre, having spent almost his entire lifein music. Starting at the age of 3 he hasperformed in bands throughout Irelandafter joining his first band at the age ofjust 14. David, a self taught dancer fromScotland, had been performing through-out the summer inBenidorm as MichaelJackson and taking hisshow back to Scotland forthe winter season. Tracyfrom Essex is the thirdmember of the team.Working tirelessly in thebackground not onlymanaging and promotingthe show, but also onoccasions makes an

appearance on stage in the role of SisterMary. Fans of the movie will remember itwas Sister Mary who initially sent theBlues Brothers on their “Mission fromGod”. Tracy can also be found at mostshows taking candid photos of the audi-ence as they join in with the show. A nicesurprise for the audience when they learntheir enjoyable evening has been cap-tured on camera and the photographsare available and always free of charge. The show originated almost by accident.Derek teamed up with a friend inBenidorm to play the part of Jake Bluesin an existing Blues Brothers show, ini-tially standing in to cover a period of ill-ness for the artist who normally playedthe part. It soon became obvious that theroll was going to be more permanent,

however things changed when“Elwood” decided to move to

Belgium. Derek was left witha show, which still had

work in the diary and noElwood. Derek, howev-er, saw this as anopportunity to bring hisown ideas into theshow. Decided Elwoodshould be replaced by a

professional dancer andcontacted David in

Scotland. Derek and Davidhad never actually met, but

Derek had admired his dancingabilities, having seen him perform inBenidorm throughout the previous sum-mer seasons. David loved the idea of try-ing something new and immediately flewback to Benidorm. From that point thetwo instantly gelled. David arrived inBenidorm on 23rd December and theyperformed their first show on 24thDecember, without a rehearsal. A mem-ber of the audience commented on thatfirst night “it was a very polished show”.Something the guys still smile abouttoday. Since then rehearsals have neverbeen part of the daily work routine. “Theshow is built around the audience and wecan´t rehearse it when they´re not there”. So next time you see a sign for a BlueBrothers tribute show, look again. If itsays The Blues Brothers Experience -Benidorm. Then no, you haven´t seen itbefore. This is the one they are all talkingabout. You can catch the fun in Benidorm atTropical Bar, Jokers, Heartbreak Hotel,The Med Playa Hotels, Riviera MusicLounge, Helios Hotel, Ambassador Hoteland Jail Rock. NUEVo ALcAZAR LA NUcIAIf you like good food then you will absolutely love this place,it’s tranquil, spacious and so inviting. The cuisine offers a widerange of international dishes that has all of the favourites fromaround Europe. The Buzz team went along to meet

Christopher the owner and his team to discover more aboutthe cuisine at Restaurant Nuevo Alcazar. The setting is combined of a large terrace featuring a centrepiece water feature, together with an open dining room leading

out onto the terrace also the main restaurantthat is split over two levels. The decor isattractive colonial style with decorative pillarsand leather upholstered furniture. The table setting is stylish and is complement-ed with a service that is impeccable. Ourchoice of starters were Carpaccio of BeefRossini served with goose liver gratin and truf-fle oil dressing. The other plate was a Trio of Seafood thatcombined North Sea Shrimps with king prawnsand scampi each served individually onto asalad. The choice of starters on the menuwere extensive and there was a selection ofCold and Warm options also a selection ofhomemade soups. As the temperature of theevening was in the high twenties and my sum-mer appetite had arrived, I wanted to enjoy ahealthy lighter dish, so the Seafood Trio was aperfect choice. It was fresh and cool and witha tasty tangy dressing, presented well andextremely enjoyable. The Carpaccio of beef Rossini was a mouth-watering combination that melted away in yourmouth and in fact the toast served on the sidehad been forgotten as the meat was so good itreally wasn't needed and was only remem-bered after we had finished.

For main course I was tempted by the varietyof fish dishes but unfortunately on this occa-sion the fish on the menu will have to wait untilnext time. Although I would like to mention thatthe menu offers the best choice of fish thatyou will find anywhere in the Costa Blanca.,there was turbot, cod, monkfish and salmonthat all play a big part in the menu as well asothers. I decided on the Fillet of Steak with ared wine sauce and goose liver pate, the Rackof Lamb was tempting but I love my steaks, Ihad it cooked medium which came out fabu-

lous and it was served with a cauliflower and complementedwith a potato cake. The other main was Fillet of Pork with cognac and creamsauce with onion and pear, with a choice of sauté potatoes andFrench fries were served on the side. The portion sizes weregenerous and we were absolutely delighted with the quality ofthe food. There is also fresh lobster on the menu with five vari-eties to choose from, a Children's menu that has beendesigned with a variety of the younger generations favourites.

The chef, Javier Boccalandro and his team combine theFrench, Belgian, and Mediterranean cuisines into enticing dish-es, prepared with only the best fresh ingredients, they areused to serving a full restaurant of nearly 200 covers mostevenings with the visitors coming from far around and havebeen coming back over and over through the years. I hadnoticed there was a table arrangement in the restaurant whichwas prepared for a party that seated 20 and after talking withChristophe he explained that they hosted a variety of partiesmost evenings.

They also have their own extensive wine cellar that holds over100 Spanish and French wines that simply compliment theexcellent service and exceptional setting. This magnificentbuilding is located on the CV70 on the roundabout number sixcoming fromBenidorm towardsLa Nucia. Wewere mostlyimpressed with thequality of thecooking togetherwith the presenta-tion of the dishes.A first class rec-ommendation fromus at the BuzzNewspaper.

The Pig n’ Whistle music pub saw an amazing turnout fortheir Northern Soul all dayer last Wednesday, with literal-ly hundreds of people descending on Calle Del Pal asearly as 11am. People were turning up for hours andhours throughout the afternoon, one lady described thatshe had lived in the area

for tens of years andnever seen such aninflux of people, shealso wished the teamgood luck with all thecleaning up the nextday while casting asmile. What fol-lowed was 8 hoursof pure totally filled

dance floors, with people dressed to impress. Inboth the bar and the street it was jam packed of peopleenjoying themselves. Lee and Helen would like to thank everyone involvedespecially Karen Payton and her Benidorm Facebook

Group, for promotion, DJ’s and music contribution... Alsonot forgetting the legendary PNW crew that were amaz-

ing keeping calm throughout with compliments all day ofhow fast everyone was getting served even though num-bers were rising by the hour.

Most important Lee and Helen would like to thank thepeople who attended the event, for been patient, polite and respectful to both the pub and general public.“It would not have happened without you” they said. Theatmosphere was as one Northern Soul veteran describedlike the good old days, back in the day. Fiestas as awhole for the PNW were amazing and blew all expecta-tions out of the water, they are now planning with thepeople that took part in this year’s fiesta for 2015, whichwill be one party you should not miss. They also alongthe way raised money for the royal British legion in formof poppies, as remembrance Sunday fell in fiesta week-end, also Christies Children’s cancer charity and KarenPayton’s chosen charity Brain Tumour Trust. All totals willbe published in a future editorial as some have not yetbeen collected in as are in sealed boxes.

A big well done from The Weekly Buzz team to

HYDROGEN TOYOTA FCVTO BE CALLED MIRAI

Toyota's new hydrogen fuel cell-poweredFCV will be called the Mirai when it goeson sale in summer 2015.

The Mirai will launch in Japan in April2015, before arriving in Europe and theUS in the summer. The name means'future' in Japanese.

The FCV has two hydrogen fuel tanksand a range of about 440 miles. TheFCV’s fuel cell stack develops the electri-cal equivalent of about 135bhp.

Toyota says the FCV 'delivers a perform-ance and cruising speed similar to that ofa petrol-engined car and it can be refu-elled in roughly three minutes'.

Toyota hopes to popularise hydrogen asa fuel just as it has pioneered hybrid

technology in the past 16 years. No pricing has been revealed, but

Japanese versions of the car cost around£45,000.

WORDS FROM TOYOTA

“The need for an alternative to fossil fuel is real. And in time, hydrogen will be our most sustain-able option. Not only because hydrogen can beproduced from renewables like solar and windbut also because the only emission from thetailpipe is water vapor. So what was once seenas a pipe dream now has more potential thanever.”

“Over the next year, the debate around hydro-gen will intensify. Some are still writing hydro-gen fuel off as anything from impractical tounsafe. But as history shows, progress hasalways been fueled by skepticism. So all ques-tions marks are welcomed.”

WHY DO I NEED A SURVEY? Unfortunately, there are many examples of residentialbuildings that have been built with poor constructiondetails or where quality control has been lacking duringconstruction. Structural defects in domestic buildings arenot uncommon, even those built in recent years. Thereare also many new properties which have stood emptyfor several years as a result of the worldwide economic

crisis. In Spain the resi-dential property markethas perhaps been themost affected and manyproperties remain incom-plete or those that remainunsold have not beenmaintained in the inter-vening years.

The majority of overseaspurchasers do not botherwith a survey and are notencouraged to undertakeone by many agents. Inour experience manyagents will actively dis-courage the use of a sur-veyor or even deny thatwe are present in Spain.

Do not be dissuaded – we can usually arrange for aChartered Surveyor be undertake a survey within threeworking days of the appointment and to produce theassociated report within three days of the inspection visit. It is essential when buying in Spain to have a surveyundertaken. We strongly advise that this is undertakenbefore a deposit is placed to reserve a property (unlessthe deposit is fully refundable in the event that anadverse report is obtained). The report will provide a gen-eral opinion on quality and condition of the fabric of thebuilding and will highlight evident defects. This informa-tion is essential in making an informed decision on a pur-chase and can often assist with price negotiations.

It is also important to understand how a survey can assistyour legal adviser during the purchase. It is not uncom-mon in Spain for the legal documents relating to a prop-erty to be incorrect or out of date. For example, in the

past a builder may have been have been tempted tounder-declare the true size of the property that was con-structed in order to pay less tax on the declared buildingcost. Conversely, in recent years developers have some-times constructed smaller properties than specified whenthey were originally bought off-plan. A survey can help to identify obvious errors relating to theproperty descriptions which may not otherwise be detect-ed during the normal legal checks. It is also not uncommon for extensions or swimmingpools to be added to properties, perhaps without the cor-rect legal authority, and a survey can help to highlightsuch discrepancies prior to purchase.

The hardest part of buying a home inSpain is probably choosing the propertythat had the best physical features thathave been examined in detail. Takingyour time when looking around so youcan compare the different possibilitiesthat the market has to offer. Examine thephysical features of the property in detailto make sure that there are no problemsthat would later come to light. Estate agents make up an important fac-tor when finding the right home becausethe agent should provide you with the dif-ferent possibilities that suit your budgetand requirements.

Examine the property's physical features, take time to look over the property your-self. Check the condition of its installedequipment and it's general upkeep, theamount of light it gets, the views and theneighbourhood. Takingnotice of the noise lev-els day and night andmeeting the neigh-bours. If anythingseems wrong then donot hesitate to bringthis to the attention ofthe Estate Agent andto hear their explana-tions and then make adecision to employ aprofessional such asan architect or survey-or to make a report onyour behalf.

Installed equipment should have servicerecords and maintenance schedules, also taking copies of the utility bills sothat you can examine the usual costsand calculate the total running costs ofthe property.

For new build property the seller shouldprovide you with the general plans, floorspace and the general description.Together with the description of the serv-ices (power, water, gas, heating systems, warrantee and fire safety. The details ofthe materials used in the build shouldalso be made available with full informa-tion of the insulation of sound and heat. Ifthe property is a flat or as part of a com-munity area the annual costs should bedeclared as well as the details of thecommunity association agreement.

Siam Beach

Calle Conde De Altea, No.40, Altea

“Thai restaurant Altea”Reviewed 14 October 2014We are coming back since several years in Altea and sur-roundings, visited different Chino - Ino restaurants. We hadluck this time to find on the seaside a Thai restaurant. Themenu for Western people is a bit confusing, the Thai dishesare only translated into Spanish and for most tourists a realhandicap. However the cuisine is very good and fresh. Theyuse day fresh vegetables, fish and meat. As most Thai restau-rants the staff is very friendly and helpful. The Tom yang kungmissed some fresh herbs but it is made to Western norms andnot the real fresh smoothness of real Thai food. Food howeveris great and a great relief to have a Thai restaurant with highquality in Altea.

“REAL THAI FOOD”Reviewed 18 August 2014I had been looking for a genuine Thai restaurant in our area.Looking through Tripadvisor I saw the Siam Beach and readthe reviews. To be safe I phoned and booked a table for mywife and I.We were met with a warm friendly greeting from our hosts andserved a delicious meal. True Thai food (heaven). The otherreviewers were spot on with their comments. We also had abeautiful view of the sea whilst eating. I found the Siam Beachrestaurant to be friendly, helpful and the food superb, with theadded bonus of the sea view. Will definitely be back. The price was reasonable considering it was an a la cartemenu.

“Fantastic, genuine thai food andexcellent service”

Reviewed 1 July 2014First time in this restaurant with the family (2 adults and twogirls age 4 and 6). We had chicken satay, gambas tempura, fried rice with pineap-ple (served in a pineapple), tom kha gai, pad thai and greencurry. Fried banana with vanilla ice for the kids as desert. Friendlyand efficient service.Best thai food we have eaten, both inside and outsideThailand. Will recommend this restaurant to all friends going to

or living in the area. And we will surely be back.

Cafe MichaelCalle Santa Faz 23,

Old Town, Benidorm,

“Great British grub”Reviewed 15 November 2014Like other reviews have mentioned, you can easily walk pastthis place. Once we found it we practically went every day.Thehome made pies were fantastic and i tried most of them. I canrecommend the pork pies too. The quiche, fish and sandwicheswere also top quality and all freshly made. As others have men-tioned the chips are thick, hand cut and fried to order. The priceis amazing for the quality food on offer. All the staff were friend-ly and although busy, made you feel very welcome. This will bea regular stop when we next go to Benidorm

“Proper Chips !”Reviewed 7 November 2014We stayed at the nearby Rocamar hotel and despite walkingpast this café everyday unfortunately did not notice it until thelast evening, food and drink is priced just right but the chips areamazing, really great place to eat. The young waitress waslovely, polite and attentive. My only advice (if I may) would beto somehow advertise what you do a little better, I spent 5 dayswalking past and thinking you were just a bakery / pie shoptype of place, did not realise how extensive your menu was.Anyway, thanks and keep up the good work.

“A taste of home”Reviewed 2 November 2014Fantastic food at great prices - if you're in Benidorm old town, give Michael's a try. A great variety of English food, all home-made. Also, the location is interesting - good for watching theworld go by. Friendly staff, they make everyone feel welcome. We enjoy all types of cuisine, but sometimes on holiday, it'slovely to eat food like you would have at home. We've holidayed in Benidorm several times, and always maketime for lunch at Michael's. Well worth a visit!

“simply brilliant”Reviewed 2 November 2014visited cafe michael twice in two days.. Love it... Great food atextremely good prices... If you find yourself in old townbenidorm give it a try.. You wont be dissapointed

Highly recommend and we will most def be back soon. The place was busy but not over-packed so the service wasvery attentive and the seating not cramped. My other half hadSteak pie again very good and full of meat Very good value formoney !

“Best fish and chips in Moraira”Reviewed 4 November 2014Had Sunday lunch here on a lovely October afternoon.

We went for the VIP special menu at E21.95. A good cava asan aperitif, bread and ali oli, my personal choice was thengoats cheese, plaice with gratin potatoes and chocolatemousse all accompanied by a half bottle of rose wine.Fantastic value.

We sat out on the terrace but the interior had a really nicedecor for cooler days or nights. The service was excellent andwe were made to feel very welcome. My niece is in a wheel-chair and the restaurant had good and easy access at theentrance via a ramp.

I found it by reading the good reviews on TA by regular contrib-utors and so once more was not disappointed.

“What can I say”Reviewed 30 October 2014

All the previous reviews were spot on, it was a lovely meal andeven though we arrived late, half an hour before they closedfor the afternoon, were only to happy to let us take the time weneeded to finish our meal, even offering dessert when we fin-ished. Thank you it was a lovely meal and very fulfilling.

“Great Fish and Chips”Reviewed 23 October 2014

Coming from Yorkshire i know more than a little about fish andchips and these are by far the best in the area. Great value, great service - its doesn't do pizza, curry (except curry sauceof course) or other things it does just exactly what is says onthe tin!

NORWAY'S RICHEST MAN BANSSTAFF XMAS PARTIES

Norwegian billionaire Kjell Inge Røkke - offi-cially Norway's richest man - has cancelledhis company's Christmas parties, affectingthousands of dejected staff, it was reportedon Monday.

The move by Aker Solutions, owned by Røkke,is because the firm's bosses fear the festivitieswould be in poor taste. Aker is set to let manystaff go this year and next.

Scrapping the Christmas parties will take placeacross all the oil and gas company's offices inStavanger, Ålesund, Kristiansund, Trondheimand Bergen.

The Aker offices in Aberdeen, northeastScotland, have cancelled their Christmas partythis year, "sympathy" to the hundreds ofNorway people affected by the cutbacks, said

the Aberdeen Press and Journal. The move isto the dismay of 2,000 staff in the Scotlandbranch.

Aker has blamed a decline in Norway's off-shore "maintenance and modifications market"as to why hundreds of people will lose theirjobs.

A spokeswomen for Aker Solutions said to thePress and Journal: “We have cancelledChristmas parties this year across the companyin sympathy with employees who’ve beenaffected by the slowdown in the Norwegianmaintenance, modifications and operations(MMO) market.”

Business magnate Kjell Inge Røkke, who hascontrolled Aker is Norway's richest person, witha fortune of almost 11.8 billion kroner ($1.8 bil-lion).

NORWAY BEAT AZERBAIJANNorway won their third match in Group Hwith a 1-0 victory away from home againstAzerbaijan, on Sunday.

The Nordic nation took the lead in the 25thminute with a goal from Håvard Nordtveit. The24-year-old defender headed the ball into thenet from a Stefan Johansen cross.

The first-half was a scrappy affair, littered withfouls and freekicks and Norway was content withmost of the best chances, culminating in thegoal ahead of the half-time whistle. The second-half saw Azerbaijan pushing for an

equalizer as Norway sought to put the game outof their opponent's reach.

Neither team created many clear-cut chancesand Norway won the match, happy to take awaythe three points. After the match, goal scorer Nordtveit, said toMAX: "We knew it was going to become a toughmatch. We came here to take three points, andit's truly wonderful that we got them."

Norway's next Euro 2016 qualifier match isaway to Croatia on March 28th next year.

ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)

The lunar low does nothing for your energy levels this week, so slowing down theaction is the order of the day. Personal success at home is not well marked, butif you’re patient and think before you speak, you’ll minimise any damage youcould cause by thoughtlessness.

TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)

Both business and material matters take an upward shift, bringing you plenty ofpotential for excitement and being under the spotlight. Strike while the iron ishot, but make sure children and family members are on board with your plans forthe future.

GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)

Find something exciting to do that will blow away any cobwebs and make youfeel more alive. Mid week a feeling of insecurity will take you by surprise, butlook around you and you’ll see that things are actually running smoothly. Don’twaste your time trying to please others.

CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)

Being a team player will certainly work well for you this week. It’s not alwayseasy for you to work closely with others as you’re a natural loner according toyour astrological make up, but when you make the effort, it opens up a wholenew world to you. Enjoy.

LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)

Your main success this week will be in your domestic scene. Its not that youwont make an impression in your professional life, you will, its just that you’refocusing the majority of your attention on home, heath and health. Start planningsome DIY or alterations.

VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)

Keep yourself busy this week by tying up loose ends in work and play. This willnot only give you the feeling of bringing things to satisfactory conclusions, but willgive you more time to focus on new projects, new love affairs, new friendships.I’d go for it.

LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)

It’ll be hard for you to feel comfortable in just about any area today, but your con-fidence should grow as the week moves ahead. The lunar high offers you plentyof opportunities to redress the balance and you’ll move ahead to bigger and bet-ter things.

SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)You’ll make the most progress via work and efficiency. Its not so much what youdo that matters, but the attitude you take towards it. No one can deny that youroriginal practical skills are innovative, but remember to inject some of your per-sonality into the equation too.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)

You’re now in the enviable position of being able to call the shots over futureplans or career changes, so focus more on the practical than the emotional. Youhave the scope to make this a really fulfilling period so expect to be busy everyday this week.

CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)

It’s a testing time for professional and personal relationships. You feel youachieve more as a solo unit but others don’t, and that’s where the problems maylie. Appease emotional partners or family members by telling them you’ll alwaysbe there for them. You will.

AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)

It’s a great week for expanding your social circle and making new friends in busi-ness, so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Channel your energyinto changes you want to make around the home, but try to make compromisesover unimportant issues.

PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)

If setbacks arise this week, your best plan of action is to go with the flow andtrust that fate will lead you in the right direction. Focus on what you can achieveand don’t take silly chances with things in uncharted territory. You’re coming intoan expensive season so watch your money.

Tips For Caring ForYour Pet This Winter

Just like people, pets’ cold tolerance can vary from pet to pet based on their coat, bodyfat stores, activity level, and health. Be aware of your pet’s tolerance for cold weather, and adjust accordingly. You will probably need to shorten your dog’s walks in very coldweather to protect you both from weather-associated health risks. Arthritic and elderlypets may have more difficulty walking on snow and ice and may be more prone to slip-ping and falling. Long-haired or thick-coated dogs tend to be more cold-tolerant, but arestill at risk in cold weather. Short-haired pets feel the cold faster because they have lessprotection, and short-legged pets may become cold faster because their bellies andbodies are more likely to come into contact with snow-covered ground. Pets with dia-betes, heart disease, kidney disease, or hormonal imbalances (such as Cushing’s dis-ease) may have a harder time regulating their body temperature, and may be more sus-ceptible to problems from temperature extremes. The same goes for very young andvery old pets. If you need help determining your pet’s temperature limits, consult yourveterinarian.

Provide choices: Just like you, pets prefer comfortable sleeping places and maychange their location based on their need for more or less warmth. Give them somesafe options to allow them to vary their sleeping place to adjust to their needs.

Stay inside. Cats and dogs should be kept inside during cold weather. It’s a commonbelief that dogs and cats are resistant than people to cold weather because of their fur,but it’s untrue. Like people, cats and dogs are susceptible to frostbite and hypothermiaand should be kept inside. Longer-haired and thick-coated dog breeds, such as huskiesand other dogs bred for colder climates, are more tolerant of cold weather; but no petshould be left outside for long periods of time in below-freezing weather.

Make some noise: A warm vehicle engine can be an appealing heat source for outdoorand feral cats, but it’s deadly. Check underneath your car, bang on the hood, and honkthe horn before startingthe engine to encouragefeline hitchhikers to aban-don their roost under thehood.

Check the paws: Checkyour dog’s paws frequentlyfor signs of cold-weatherinjury or damage, such ascracked paw pads orbleeding. During a walk, asudden lameness may bedue to an injury or may bedue to ice accumulationbetween his/her toes. Youmay be able to reduce thechance of iceball accumu-lation by clipping the hairbetween your dog’s toes.

CYTOMEGALOVIRUS (CMV)CMV is a common viral infection spreadthrough bodily fluids, such as saliva andurine. It can be passed onthrough close bodily contact. For example, the infection can be found in small dropletsof saliva which are spread from one per-son to another when an infected personcoughs or sneezes.

CMV is part of the herpes family of virus-es. As with most other herpes-type virus-es, once you are infected with CMV, it willremain inactive in your body for the rest ofyour life. CMV causes few symptoms inmost people.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF CMVThe different types of CMV infection are:

• Primary CMV - where someone develops a CMV infec-tion for the first time• Reoccurring CMV - a previously inactive CMV infectionis reactivated, often because the immune system (thebody’s natural defence against infection and illness) isweakened• Re-infection with CMV - an infection with a differentstrain of virus• Congenital CMV - a CMV infection develops when awoman is pregnant and infects the unborn baby

UNBORN AND NEWBORN BABIES]

If a woman becomes infected with CMV for the first timeduring pregnancy, there is a risk that she may pass theinfection on to her unborn baby.

Infection in the unborn baby is known as congenitalCMV. It is estimated that 1 to 4 babies in every 200 will beborn with congenital CMV. Only 1 in 10 babies who areborn with congenital CMV have symptoms at birth. Forthem, however, the infection can be serious, even fatal. Itis estimated that between 10-30% of very young babies(less than 28 days) with a CMV infection will die. The riskcan be much higher in premature babies.

Babies that do survive may develop long-term prob-lems, such as learning difficulties and hearing loss. A fewbabies who are born with congenital CMV but have nosymptoms at birth will experience hearing loss that devel-ops over their first few years of life.

If you planning a pregnancy or suspect that you mightbe pregnant, see a Midwife as soon as possible. A simpleblood test will determine your CMV status.

If you are worried about any conditions we featurewe reccommend you talk to your GP right away, or

alternativly call or pop into the Family Medical Centre, they are always happy to

help with any health issues you may have. Avenida Albir - 966 865 072

Luka Modric faces three months on the sidelineswith a thigh injury, the Croatian Football Federationhas announced. The 29-year-old sustained the prob-lem midway through the first half of Croatia's Euro2016 qualifier against Italy. The news will come as a

blow to Real Madrid, who revealed the formerTottenham and Dinamo Zagreb man had suffered a"tear of the left proximal rectus femoris tendon" onMonday, although they did not put a timescale on

his recovery.

Phil Taylor won his sixth Grand Slam of Darts title with a

16-13 victory over Dave Chisnall at Wolverhampton Civic

Hall.

'The Power' sunk double 10 to lift the £100,000 winner’s

cheque, while Chisnall received £50,000 for his efforts.

After holding off Chisnall’s spirited fight-back , Mardle

thinks Taylor is now the man to beat at the World

Championships

“Taylor has averaged over 100 in every single game, 114.65

against Christian Kist, he was the dominant force in this

Grand Slam. He deserved that final.”

BAD WEEKMODRIC FACING

THREE MONTHS OUT

Caterham will return to the Formula 1 grid atnext week’s Abu Dhabi GP after raising sufficientfunds through their bold crowdfunding scheme.

The Leafield-based outfit went into administrationahead of the U.S./Brazil double-header threeweeks ago amid an ownership dispute and spi-ralling debts. Since then administrators Smith &Williamson have been trying to raise sufficientfunds to initially ensure Caterham's participationin next week's season finale and, in a long-termgoal, the team's outright survival.

Last week, administrators launched a crowdfund-ing scheme with the aim of raising £2.35 millionto get the team to Abu Dhabi, and while theywere around £1 million short of their target as ofThursday night, further pledges on Friday mean thatshortfall has halved ahead of the midnight deadline.

Caterham's joint administrator Finbarr O’Connell has

nonetheless confirmed the team will be racing in AbuDhabi, a feat he believes will increase the likelihood ofone of the prospective buyers stepping forward to keepthem on the grid in 2015.

CATERHAM TORACE IN ABU DHABI

Bernie Ecclestone has suggested that he is open toidea of dropping Formula 1’s highly-controversialdouble points rule for the 2015 season.

The shock announcement last winter that double pointswould be awarded in the 2014 season finale in Abu Dhabi– which takes place this weekend – provoked immediateoutcry from fans, with the idea also seemingly garneringlittle public support amongst the teams despite the motionoriginally carrying their support prior to its insertion intothe Sporting Regulations.Ecclestone, keen to ensure there was no repeat of 2013

when Sebastian Vettel wrapped up the title with threeraces to spare, was credited with devising the concept –although F1’s commercial chief has since stressed thathe wanted the final three rounds of the campaign to fea-ture double points.

And now ahead of the title-deciding race dubbed ‘AbuDouble’ on Sunday, Ecclestone has told TheIndependent: “I’m not going to propose the three racesagain.

HASKELL SAYS ENGLANDSHOULD BE BEATING THE REST

James Haskell believes England shouldbe beating the All Blacks, and that noone in the side is happy with being"plucky runners-up".Haskell, who is expected to replace TomWood at blindside flanker against Samoaon Saturday, said England should be top-pling the southern hemisphere giants.

Successive defeats by New Zealand andSouth Africa mean that England are lefttrying to salvage a victory from the tworemaining QBE internationals againstSamoa and Australia.

Haskell is set to win his 51st cap atTwickenham, and said no-one in theEngland side would be happy as "run-ners-up".

This side has now developed to a pointwhere we have beaten the world champi-ons and where we ultimately should bebeating these teams and be right upthere," Haskell said."It's very easy to see us as plucky run-ners-up, but not one person in this entire

environment has ever said that is thecase.

"No one is satisfied to only be pushingthose teams close. We realise we wantto be beating them, we should be beatingthem and we are doing all the things inour power to make that happen."

With England's losing streak now at fivematches, fans are looking for a turn-around before the World Cup begins in10 months time.

"Just because we lost on Saturday does-n't mean we're going to lose at the WorldCup," Haskell said."Frankly, players don't sit here now talk-

ing about the World Cup, what we'regoing to do when we get there and howwe're going to do it, because the rugbylandscape changes dramatically frommonth to month. "It would be great to have those wins inthe bank, but my view is they don't haveany bearing."

ENGLAND WIN SCOTLAND SHOWDOWN

Wayne Rooney struck twice in the sec-ond half to make it seven goals in hislast seven internationals and helpEngland silence Celtic Park with anentertaining 3-1 victory over Scotland.fter half an hour of a predictably franticfirst half, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlainnodded home a precision long ballfrom the impressive Jack Wilsherebefore Rooney's effort early in the sec-ond half put England in sight of a rou-tine victory.

It was not all plain sailing for RoyHodgson's visitors as a neatly-workedlate goal from Andy Robertson ignitedScottish hope again - but a swift andemphatic reply from Rooney ensuredEngland remain unbeaten north of theborder since 1985.

MCLAREN DELAYLINE-UP DECISION

McLaren will not confirm the identity oftheir 2015 driver line-up until after thecurrent season. The long-awaited announcement had

been expected before this weekend’sseason-ending Abu Dhabi GP.Instead, the Woking-based outfit haverevealed they will only disclose their2015 line-up after December 1st.' Selecting the optimal driver line-up fora Formula 1 team is clearly an importantprocess, and it is therefore one thatrequires precise and prolonged analysis,'a McLaren statement read.'That being the case, and in order to

avoid distracting the race team from itsprimary objective during the final GrandPrix weekend of the season, which is tosecure the best possible on-track results,we have decided to defer our final delib-erations relating to our 2015 driver line-up until a date no earlier than MondayDecember 1st.'

Despite the unexpected postponement, the team are still expected to announcethat Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, sevenyears after leaving the team, will return toWoking in order to spearhead theirreunion with Honda.

He said the complaint concerns "sus-pected unlawful activity in connectionwith Switzerland." No details weregiven as to which financial or business

laws might have been broken. A FIFAstatement noted that "in isolatedcases, international transfers of assetswith connections to Switzerland tookplace, which merit examination by thecriminal prosecution authorities."Eckert maintains "there is insufficientincriminating evidence" to question theFIFA board's choice of Russia andQatar in December 2010.Still, "there are indications of potentialillegal or irregular conduct in certainareas," he said.

The criminal complaint is the latesttwist in a chaotic drama playing outsince Thursday. Garcia has himselfappealed to FIFA, challenging Eckert'sdecision to close the case againstRussia and Qatar, and stating that histeam's 430-page investigation reportswere misrepresented by the Germanjudge.

Garcia and Eckert are expected tomeet Thursday at an undisclosed loca-tion.

FIFA filed a criminal complaintagainst unnamed individualson Tuesday over the 2018 and2022 World Cup bidding con-tests won by Russia and Qatar.

FIFA said president SeppBlatter asked Switzerland'sattorney general to investigatethe behavior of the unnamedpeople involved in the bid cam-paigns.

In an apparent move to avertcriticism of FIFA, Blatter actedon a request by FIFA ethicsjudge Joachim Eckert, whosesummary last week of aninvestigation by American pros-ecutor Michael Garcia waswidely denounced as a "white-wash" of Russia, Qatar andFIFA officials.Eckert concluded that any cor-rupt acts in the 11-nation bid-
