SpringFest Annual Festival 1200-2200 this Saturday at Independence Park The annual SpringFest Celebration is this coming Saturday (May 12) at Independence Park, with the gates open to our Korean neighbors from 1200-2200. Activities will include Games, Entertainment, Bouncy Games, a Special Kid’s area and, of course, lots of food. Family Readiness Groups (FRGs), Units, Private Organizations and Home-Based Businesses will be running booths, along with several Korean food and crafts vendors. Parking and traffic control will be very difficult Saturday, with the area from the CPX Gate around Beacon Hill and to the Zoeckler Shoppette not open to anything except emergency vehicles. If you’re driving, you’re encouraged to park in the area of the Zoeckler Gym or take the post shuttle to the festival. If you’re driving from off -post, you will have to use the CPX Gate for post access. Otherwise, you can use the walk-through gate. Splish & Splash passes go on Sale Thursday @ Outdoor Rec Individual, US Family, the new half-season pass and the new Monday through Friday Korean Employee Family pass will be on sale at Outdoor Rec starting Thursday. They will go on sale at Splish & Splash Saturday during SpringFest. Individual Season Passes are $75 each, with the US Family Season Pass $150. The half-season pass which covers the May 19 opening through July 15 is priced at $37.50 for an Individual or $75 for a Family. The Monday-Friday Korean Family Pass is $150 and can only be used on weekdays. Splish & Splash opens at 1100 Saturday, May 19. The Water Park also has a fully-stocked Snack Bar selling a wide variety of food and beverages. No food or beverages can be brought into Splish & Splash except for baby formula. Splish & Splash passes go on Sale Thursday @ Outdoor Rec

News of note …

COMMUNITY ACTIVITY CENTER – The Community Activity Center at Camp Humphreys is closed through mid-June because of the installation of the new Geothermal heating and cooling system. Officials estimate the CAC will reopen on or about June 19. There will be new operational hours announced for CAC programs and activities before the reopening. Meanwhile, BOSS has relocated to the Super Gym and Discover Seoul has relocated to the Business Center at the Camp Humphreys Lodge. See page 14 of the May Happenings for alternative locations for training or social events and page 48 for a complete listing of CAC services and where they are being offered during construction.

BOSS BEACH BLAST – Make your reservations for the June 15-17 BOSS Beach Blast at the Super Gym through your Unit BOSS representative or at Outdoor Rec. Cost is $150 per person which includes round-trip transportation, hotel, some food and activities. This event is restricted to single Soldiers. Call 753-8825 (031-690-8825).

BEST VOCALS AT THE HUMP -- Tommy D’s seven week Best Vocals at the Hump Contest continues this Wednesday at 2000. The Finals have been moved to May 23 because of the Reggae band "Mystic Roots Concert May 16. The contest is open to everyone except previous Operation Rising Star winners. Call 753-7532/8191.

MOTHER’S DAY BUFFET -- The Alaska Mining Co. will offer a Mother’s Day Buffet from 1030-1430 Sunday. The menu includes Prime Rib, Baked Chicken, Fried Chicken, Baked Ham and all the trimmings. The Buffet is priced at $16.95 for Adults and $5.45 for children 5-10. Reservations are not necessary, but if you want to make sure of your choice of time, please call 754-3101 (031-619-3101).

YOUTH SPORTS is recruiting coaches for Swimming, Wrestling, Running, Triathlon, Soccer and Flag Football. Soldiers, Civilian Employees and Family Members are all eligible to coach a Youth team, and more and more coaches are needed each season. YOUTH DECIDE Forum and Dance will be held May 26. This is a special activity for students in the sixth through 12th grades. Mark it on your calendar.

Final weigh-in date approaching

The Biggest Losers Contest has reached the home-stretch with Final Weigh-in required no later than this Sunday, May 13

The contest, which started January 1, is designed to build a healthier Camp Humphreys.

The Awards Ceremony for this year’s contest is scheduled for 1100 Saturday, May 19, and will kick off the Army in Korea Aerobithon.

Winners in both the Team and Individual competition will be determined by the percentage of weight lost between the date of entry and their final weigh-in.

Following the Aerobithon, participants can show off their new bodies at the opening of Splish & Splash Water Park.

Mother-Son Dance 19th

The annual Mother-Son Dance at Tommy D’s is scheduled for 1800-2000 Saturday, May 19.

Moms are $10 and sons are free. There will be finger food (while it lasts), contests, dancing and lots of fun.

Units needed for SpringFest dunk tank

Units wanting to get wet and soak up some cash at SpringFest can sign up for a 45-minute block in the dunk tank – one of the coolest ways to raise money at the annual Community-wide Festival.

Forty-five minute time slots are available starting at noon. FMWR will provide the tank, balls, water and signage. Unit need to provide the manpower, dunkees and collect the money for their Unit Funds.

Priority goes to Units running a food booth at SpringFest, followed by other military Units. Unclaimed slots will then be awarded to Private Organizations.

If your Unit or organization is interested, E-mail [email protected] with your time preference and an E-Mail address. The Camp Humphreys Youth Swim team, the Hurricanes, already has the 1330-1415 time slot reserved.

Memorial Day Run Cancelled

The planned Memorial Day 5K run & Walk and 10K run have been cancelled because of construction on Perimeter Road, and a new Firecracker 5K run & Walk and 10K Run have been added to the calendar for Wednesday, July 4, starting at 0800.

Runners are also encouraged to participate in the 5K Fun Run to AK Plaza offered by Health Promotion on Saturday, May 19. That run starts at 0800 at the Walk-thru Gate.

Road construction on Perimeter Road over the Memorial Day Weekend makes it impossible to offer a safe route for runners.
