NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION LIFELINE AVAILABLE.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is a free, 24-hour crisis intervention hotline (1-800-273-TALK (8255)) and online
service (www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org) provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The service is available to anyone in suicidal crisis or emo-
tional distress, to include military members and their families including active duty, guard, and reserve service mem-
bers, individual ready reserve, and individual mobilization augmentees. Credentialed consultants offer confidential sup-
port 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through phone or online consultation.
UPDATES
FREE ALL DAY CIRCLE ISLAND TOUR.
The Army Community Service (ACS) Tripler Office conducts a free all-day circle island tour the third Saturday of each
month for newly assigned Soldiers, civilian employees, and Family members who have PCS’d to Hawaii within the last six
(6) months prior to the tour dates. Saturday, 19 February 2011 is the next scheduled tour. Call 438‐9285 or e-mail mi-
[email protected] byMonday 7 February 2011 to sign up and obtain more information about the tour.
APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE FOR 2011 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MILITARY CHILDREN.
The Defense Commissary Agency, DeCA, has announced that applications for the 2011 Scholarships for Military Children
program are now available in commissaries worldwide and at http://www.commissaries.com – choose the “News & Info”
tab and go to “Scholarship Info.” You can also find applications for the $1,500 scholarships at http://
www.militaryscholar.org. Only dependent, unmarried children, younger than 21 (or 23 if enrolled as a full-time student at
a college or university) of a service member on active duty, a reservist, guardsman or retiree, or child of a service member
who died while on active duty or while receiving military retirement pay, may apply for a scholarship.
Applicants should ensure that they, as well as their sponsor, have a current military ID card. The applicant must be plan-
ning to attend, or already be attending, an accredited college or university full time in the fall of 2011 or be enrolled in a
program of studies designed to transfer directly into a four-year program. Applicants must submit an essay on the follow-
ing topic: “Our nation has a goal of improving health and wellness. What are your ideas and, more importantly, how do
you propose to put these ideas into action in your local community?” Applications must be turned in to a commissary by

Military Family Life Consultant provide solution-oriented consultations to individuals, cou-
ples, families, and groups. The Military and Family Life Consultant (MFLC) Program is de-
signed to provide support and assistance to active duty Soldiers, National Guard & Reserves,
military Family Members and civilian personnel. Military and Family Life Consultants can
help people who are having trouble coping with concerns and issues of daily life.

Broward County Public School District to Partner with Tutor.com To Help Ninth Grade Students Get Ready for End-of-Course Algebra Exam
NEW YORK - December 16 – Tutor.com, the leading online tutoring service with over 6 million sessions served, an-
nounced today that the Broward County Public School District (FL) will offer one-to-one online tutoring to 3,100 ninth
graders in six high schools who must now take an end-of-course algebra proficiency exam. The program is supported
through Title I funds.
