    Please choose a book from home that you can read to our class!

    We will be reading aloud to our kindergarten friends over the next two weeks.

    Please check one last time at home for any library books!

    Library News: All books must be returned to the library for inventory preparation. Bills for items not returned will be given to the business office.

    Reading Workshop: Readers share their thoughts with their partners and rethink what has already

    happened in the story and talk about it.Writing Workshop: Writers of poetry use

    ingredients to make poems shine. One is precise words and a second is music.

    MATH: Fractions and reviewing what has been learned throughout the entire kindergarten

  • Second Grade Third Grade

    Chorus will perform Aristocats at 7:00 p.m. today and students should arrive at 6:15 p.m. Good Luck to our

    performers!Strings class meets today.

    Practice Quizlet in Spanish for 10 minutes a day.

    Students will see the dress rehearsal of the Aristocats today.

    Third grade mathematicians are working with graphs.

    In MATH Workshop, we will begin our next unit topic this week: Data. Students will learn how to

    read and construct line plots, pictographs, and bar graphs.

    In Reading Workshop, students are learning that fantasy readers think about the hero’s strengths,

    flaws, and motivations across the whole text to see how the hero has grown.

    Strings/Band/Chorus today!

    In READING WORKSHOP, students will learn to identify times when they do not understand parts of the text and how to apply strategies in order to improve their comprehension.

    Students will also stop themselves after reading chunks of the story to jot down their thinking or to discuss with their

    groups what was read.Strings class meets today.

    Third graders are going to the Botanical Gardens today. Please be sure to wear sunscreen and wear

    blue and white. Also, please bring a non-microwavable lunch and water bottle.

    Please remember to return library books this week.

    In WRITING WORKSHOP, students will learn about extended metaphors in poems. Students will also be exposed to different modes of writing poetry, such as focusing on an

    object, storytelling, and focusing on big emotions.The second grade PoetryCelebration will be on Friday, May 29th at 8:30 a.m. in the Needham Conference

    Center.

    In Writing Workshop, students are learning that poets often use patterns in their poetry to

    impact their readers.Third grade band concert is today!

    Strings/Band/Chorus today!

    There will be no school on Monday. Have a great Memorial Day! Enjoy the long weekend!

    Students will no longer be checking out books from the library. All library books should be returned as

    soon as possible.

    Our final word study test is today. Please be sure to study.

    In Reading Workshop, we are looking at biographies. Students are focusing on the different aspects of a biography

    and are preparing for their storyboard projects.

    SCIENCE: Completion of Energy Unit- review sheet.Test 5-1 on May 28, 5-2 &5-3 on May 27

    Lessons A & B due today.Lessons C & D due on Wednesday, May 20.Writers will become poets and begin generating ideas.

    STEM: Submersible Challenge- testing vials. How does the mass and volume affect an object’s ability to sink or

    float in a fluid?

    Students are using Word Voyage both in class and at home this week. They are learning about word roots,

    the meaning of a word, and how to use the words properly in a sentence.

    Review Page in class.Readers are working on their Reader Response projects and benchmarks for the end of the year.SCIENCE: Completion of Electricity Unit- We will

    have our review sheet and there will be a short test on Wednesday, May 27.

    LOWER SCHOOL BOOK CLUB Announcing First through Third Grade Book Clubs!!

    First Grade - First grade book club celebrated their last Book Club for the 2014 - 2015 school year. Thank you for a wonderful and fun year. Enjoy your summer and we will see you for SECOND grade Book Club!

    Second Grade - Second grade book club celebrated their last Book Club for the 2014-2015 school year. Thank you for a wonderful year! Have a great summer and we will see you for THIRD grade Book Club!

    Third Grade - Third grade book club will meet on the third Thursday of every month. Third graders chose "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler”, by E.L. Konigsburg. Our next book club meeting will be Thursday, May 21st. Thank you to Mrs. Sanches for providing snack. If you are interested in providing a snack for a book club, please contact Amy Shutts at: [email protected]

    WHERE: The Reading Room (F-4). Mrs. Shutts will pick up first graders at car line. Second & Third grade participants will come to the Reading Room after dismissal.

    HOW OFTEN: Monthly book club sessions will be scheduled from 3:00 - 3:45 p.m. Parents are always welcome!WHAT BOOKS: Books will be decided upon by a student vote at each book club meeting.FOOD: There will be food related to books served at each book club. If you are interested in providing a snack for your child’s book club, please let Mrs. Shutts know!

    LOWER  SCHOOL  STEM  CLUBThe  Science  Technology  Engineering  and  Math  (STEM)  Club  provides  students  with  opportunities  to  have  stimulating  

    and  exciting  learning  experiences.    Projects  involve  students  in  exploration,  practical  experiments  and  investigations,  discussions,  creations  and  reBlections.  

     STEM  Club  for  grades  3  &  4!      STEM  Club  will  meet  for  a  :inal  time  this  year  on  Thursday,  May28th.  We  will  have  a  party  to  celebrate  

    the  year,  and  Mrs.  Tate  will  have  one  last  challenge!

    STEM  Club  will  run  from  3  to  4  p.m.  in  H-‐4,  and  will  give  students  the  chance  to  participate  in  STEM  projects  that  will  last  from  2  to  4  sessions.  STEM  Club  is  free,  and  consistent  attendance  is  preferred.

    2nd- 5th grade Chorus Performance“Aristocats”

    Monday, May 18th at 7:00 p.m.Please arrive to the G&L Theatre by 6:15 p.m.

    A representative from the Southwest Florida National League of Junior Cotillion,

    Laurie Coventry-Payne, will be at the CSN library on Tuesday, May 19th, 2015 at

    2:45 p.m. “Miss Laurie” has been running the Junior Cotillion in Southwest Florida

    for eleven years. Junior Cotillion is for children entering the 6th grade - 9th grade.

    An article in the May issue of Gulfshore Life, “Yes, Sir....Yes, Ma’am” features Miss

    Laurie and the Junior Cotillion. Acceptance in the program is by invitation only. We

    are pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to our CSN families. If you are

    interested or have any questions, stop by the library on

    Tuesday, May 19th at 2: 45 p.m.
