2. Microsoft hopes to bury iPhone, Android with Windows Phone 7 The new software will be publicly unveiled on October11 and expected on handsets in stores by November.A group of smartphone manufacturers including andare expected to roll out Microsoft-based phones forthe holiday season. Right now, it isnt apparent that Windows 7 is betterthan anything thats out there, except that it mighthave a better tie-in to the actual Windows platform. Microsoft is now fourth in the fast-growing US marketfor smartphone operating systems with a share of lessthan 12% behind BlackBerry-maker , Apple andGoogle. 3. Microsoft sues Motorola over Android phones Microsoft, the world's largest software company,charged that former ally Motorola infringed nine ofits patents in the Android-based , which run onsoftware built by Google Inc. Microsoft makes its own Windows phonesoftware, which it charges handset makers to usein their phones. Motorola, like some rivals, hasshifted toward Google's free Android as a moreattractive option, straining the relationshipbetween the two companies. 4. Cont.. The suits came 10 days before Microsoftlaunches the new version of its mobilesoftware, which it hopes will win backmarket share from Apple Inc's iPhone andGoogle. The patents in question relate tosynchronizing e-mail, calendars andcontacts, scheduling meetings andnotifying applications of changes in signalstrength and battery power, Microsoft saidin a statement. 5. UK defends immigration limit on Indian professionals The UK government defended its decision to introduce an interim limit on skilled workers from India and other countries outside the European Union, despite concerns raised. The government has placed a temporary limit of 24,100 until April 2011, when a permanent annual limit will be announced. The cap has already adversely affected companies who are unable to recruit the skills required from India and elsewhere. The interim limit was introduced to stop a rush of last minute applications ahead of the annual limit being introduced in April next year and the Border Agency has been working very closely with businesses to ensure that these arrangements have been implemented effectively. 6. Ford CEO sees zero net debt by 2011- report Ford, the only large U.S. automaker to avoidbankruptcy last year, borrowed more than $23billion in late 2006, putting up nearly all of itsremaining assets, including the familiar blue ovallogo to maintain a cash cushion for itsturnaround. Ford aimed to get back the investment grade rating in 2012, or by the end of 2011 Ford cut its automotive debt by $7 billion in the second quarter and ended the quarter with $27.3 billion of automotove debt. 7. Mulally reiterated Ford's plans to be solidlyprofitable this year with a positive cash flow fromand said the group would do even better in 2011.Mulally expected the U.S. car market to grow at apace of 3-5 percent in the future, while the globalmarket would expand at 5-10 percent, he saidwithout giving a time frame. Ford would continue to restructure its Europeanoperations to remain profitable at any level ofdemand, Mulally said. The group's partnershipwith Italy's Fiat was doing well, he said, butdeclined to talk about what would happen in thefuture. 8. Airbus to double tech staff in India, scale up outsourcing Airbus currently has 180 staff and this strength is expected to go up to 400 in 2013, Airbus President and CEO said today. The activities that are performed here are increasingly important, particularly modelling and simulation. The increase in air traffic growth in India by 16 per cent this year and the company was not only keen to maintain marketshare but also expand it. 9. Cont.. According to company officials, some 180 Airbusaircraft in the fleets of Indian carriers representnearly 60 per cent of the nations total. Quoting anAirbus forecast and the demand for new aircraftin India over the next 20 years is projected to beabout 1,000.
